"Leo, wouldn't this time be better spent plotting a war against a country that can't possibly defend itself against us?" "We can do that later, Toby. Right now I'm talking about President Andrew Jackson." Technically, so was Toby.
"As long as I got a job, you got a job. You understand?" "If you were in an accident, I wouldn't stop for red lights." "Ran INTO the fire." Chills every time.
Wonderful scenes all. Alas- my favorites scenec(out of hundreds) is from "He Shall From Time To Time". President Bartlet advises the Ah Secretary what to do if he is the sole survivor- "do you have a best friend? Is he smarter than you? Would you trust him with your life? That's your Chief of Staff" (as Leo overhears). It brings tears to my eyes.
5:30 The Jackal is the fucking best lmao Sorkin: We had a a tendency to shoot very late Friday nights and early into Saturday and on Friday nights Allison's trailer became a nightclub, dubbed 'The Flamingo' after C.J.'s Secret Service code name. Janney: It's so hard to really do anything important when you're waiting around to shoot. You can't seriously try to read a book or do anything, so we would play these silly games. One night we were being completely silly and I was learning words to songs to lip-sync them and Richard would be my back-up. Sorkin: I was working on an idea for an opening for the next script and I wandered into The Flamingo around midnight to find Allison mid-Jackal with Richard sitting off to the side, smoking a cigar and playing an air drum. I just stood there for a second and then said, "We're doing this", went back to my office and wrote the opening. Janney: I loved it! I was so excited that he did that for me. But we actually had to reshoot it. We shot it twice because I, of course, did it as Allison and I was really getting into it. He said, "No, you have to do it as C.J. and she's not as good at doing it as you are!" Even though she was known for it at a silly college thing she did or whatever. So we had to reshoot it with me being a little more unsure of myself. I actually I did it again on a talk show recently, The Arsenio Hall Show. I'm also known to pull it out at parties."
Was actually thinking of this recently and how did sorkin decide and even find this song and have cj lip sync it. Like pulling two rabbits out of your writers hat
When they first were creating the story of The West Wing, the story was supposed to be more strict to following the lives and jobs of the senior staff of the White House. It did that and did it well. However, when Martin Sheen did that awesome monologue in the first episode, against the religious people who wouldn’t talk against a Christian fringe group, they realized the president would need much more screen time and story like than was planned. Martin Sheen did so good that had to alter the storyline to include him more often.
"You know, John, there are places in the world where it might be considered rude to comment on the physical attributes of another man's wife." "My god.... REALLY?" Lord John Marbury was one of my favorite characters in the show. The British Wit combined with British Wisdom, advising America.
this is such a fantastic compilation! basically contains all my favourite little bits, the funny, the sweet, the powerful, the brilliantly memorable! which is impressive as there’s so so many of them in the show.. thank you for making this!
the way she could deliver a line with just a ton of sensuality and sexiness, and that look she would give whomever she was talking to, and she'd get like really quiet and talk more, and.... sorry, it just got really hot in here. gotta open a window brb
Is it weird that I know the quotes of each scene at the first image ? Or is it a testament of how good the show was ? Aaron Sorkin sure has a gift to make the dialogues singing.
Still, after all these years, the best written show on TV, ever. Can't imagine what it would have been if they kept to the original plan and made Sam the leading character...
I think I'd still agree with this, only thing to add is we finally got around to watching Breaking Bad, it became a family-after-Sunday-dinner thing. First season it's still getting up to speed, essential but if it doesn't feel *that* good, well, just wait. The show's best stretches can hold their own with anything I've ever seen, and I mean anything. It had seasons that were flat-out riveting and some of its episodes are just unrivaled. The writing is *superb*, the actors were all born for their roles, the surprises will at times leave you slack-jawed, awash in the holy sea of surprise and inevitability. Never once felt cheated. Perfect? No, there were some weak spots, basically a few bumps. Very few.
I genuinely use "stand there in your wrongness and be wrong", "It's going to be an unbearable day", "Ginger, get the popcorn" and "well, you go girl" all the time.
"If you were in an accident I wouldn't stop for red lights" that wasn't even directed at me and I fell in love with her. How in the absolute hell Josh wasn't absolutely floored, I have no idea.
My favorite line is from the first state of the union: Bartlett: This is a typo, right? It’s supposed to say stronger? Sam: What does it say? Bartlett: I’m happy to report that the country is a lot stranger than it was a year ago.

I think it's "when did HE write that last part", talking about Bartlett. Sam is a good and dedicated writer, but it's ultimately Jed who is the voice when it counts.
@j.r.6427 Absolutely not. Bruno knew that Sam had written it -- he was running the campaign and pretty much knew what size underwear the Senior Staff wore. He also knew that presidents don't, as a rule, write their own speeches.
- No, no "however", just be wrong. Just stand there in your wrongness and be wrong and get used to it. - It's like there's nothing you can do about that joke. I quote all the time "I'll bet all the money in my pockets against all the money in your pockets that INSERT THING HERE" and of course "I drink from the keg of Glory"
The funniest part of this video is trying to figure out how most of these make their way into a conversation as a reference 😂
"Just stand there in your wrongness and be wrong" is a very common thing in my marriage.
And in case you hadn't figured it out... It's because I'm the Jackal!
Its easier than you would think.
"There is literally no one I don't hate right now."

The Time for American Heroes speech always makes me tear up. No matter how many times I’ve seen it.
Agreed on all of these. Best show ever ❤
I wish I had a West Wing friend I could quote back and forth with.

“I’m seriously thinking about getting a dog,” is possibly my single favorite line from The West Wing.
Toby Toby Toby Toby.
I like how everything's chronological except that "Mrs Landingham, what's next?" gets a special spot right at the end.
“Are you talking to me during the jackal? Never talk to me during the jackal!”
That’s me when watching the West Wing
I loved the Leo "down in the hole speech, and then later when Josh repeated it back to him"
Me too. I tell that story to my friend some times. Whenever they're in trouble, I jump to their side because of this story.
"You wanna tempt the wrath of the whatever high atop the thing?" 😂 Perfection. 👌🏻
7:40 that you go girl astonishes me everytime

When Donna says she wouldn’t stop for red lights is the best come on line from her to Josh
I still think that that's the episode they should have gotten together.
That was the line where you know they're meant to be together. Like that just oozes love

That was Allison doing it badly?
@@MaxMckayful Apparently yes lmao. She's a national treasure.
The mistake was reshooting the scene. The final product is cringey.
" You wanna make out with me, don't you?"

That, "If you were in an accident I wouldn't stop for red lights," is so damn good.

Martin Sheen made this show possible. We had to believe he was worth it for all of the others to work that hard .
"The streets of heaven tonight are too crowded with angels..." I'm not religious, but wow, that's quite a turn of phrase, delivered powerfully.
I might be a WW addict when I know most of these lines by heart. Naturally, most of these are from the first four years, the Sorkin years.
The best years!
Oh I think it's time for my yearly West Wing marathon.
I just finished mine a couple months ago. Should’ve waited, now I want to do it again!
I've been streaming it and watching it continuously since 2016. At least 3 episodes a week.
It’s a terrible thing. I would regularly come back to the WW to get my spirits up. Next thing I know, I’m two seasons in.

Danny Concannon my total perfect man.
"If you were in an accident I wouldn't stop for red lights" that wasn't even directed at me and I fell in love with her. How in the absolute hell Josh wasn't absolutely floored, I have no idea.
The West Wing is the show which made it's actors who their absolutely best.
The Jackal - Janison was so good at it that told her to mess up a bit.
Ok fine I'll watch all the episodes of the West Wing again
Time to watch this series again.
I wish there were more episodes with the Admiral. Great actor and great relationship between the President and the Admiral.
