Psychology and neuroscience both tell us that morality developed out of an evolutionary need. People that distinguish good from bad and do so predictably are much better at banding together and making social companions than those who are not. Are humans inherently evil?

It's worse than that. Soldiers rape, torture, and mutilate bodies. They were not ordered to do that. The moment you remove humans from a civilized setting, many revert to base animals, the rest remain domesticated, just like good little doggies.

I'm wondering if perhaps it could also have something to do with alleviating the sense of guilt. If the authority figure told me to do it, then they take responsibility for the action. Therefore, said action is no longer mine but theirs.

There is a great lecture on UA-cam by a professor named Michael Sandel from Harvard that covers morality. Long story short, he explains that morality is not a rigid thing that is rooted in each of us by nature, but rather a fluid thing that changes along with specific circumstances. I found it pretty interesting and I think more people should see it if they have the time.

Notice how in superhero stories, the villain is always somebody who is unhappy with society and wants to make a change, and the superhero is somebody who only wants the status quo to remain the same.
This makes sense, as it reflects the general conservative mindset of American culture.
As well, in the USA superheroes are often created by radiation, while in Japan radiation creates monsters. Characters like Captain America are basically ideological tools for the Cold War.

He also ended up either helping or being compliant in creating the gases used during the war and he did have a more gruesome life towards the end of his life where I believe either he or his wife shot themselves. Crazy thing is that our supposed "free will" and our moral compass should be a shield to every questionable order or demand.
However, due to human nature regardless of external circumstances we still wanna kill, steal, lie and destroy ... We could say it's probably because the person was conditioned to think that way, but if we have free will and a moral compass we'll often go into a contradiction of sorts, you can have the free will to do whatever you want, even not to comply with questionable demands.
To me yes humans are naturally evil in nature even the most Saint person ever. As humans we choose the easiest path so It's easy to do the evil doing than the right thing, since in doing the evil actions it will deplete our moral sense and sensibility to humanity.
It's easier to lie to a person than telling them the truth
It's easier to destroy a family house than building for one

    Why dosen't Superman save everyone:
This is a simple and yet extremely complex question, and it gets to the heart of who Superman is and his choice to be Superman instead of God or a dictator etc.
The important theme to state up front is that Superman must accept that his endless powers are limited by the endless suffering of our world. And that limitation is placed upon him by his compassion, and his dedication to what is ultimately best for humanity.
Technically, Superman actually probably CAN save everyone, or almost everyone. He could solve famine, solve war, solve most accidents, stop most crime. All he has to do is expose himself to human suffering every half-second of every minute of every hour of every day, for the rest of time. All he has to do is be a benevolent dictator, removing all weapons and monitoring everything we say and do, running society like cogs in a machine, removing human decisions from any situation that remotely matters.
The truth is that some people's free will causes other people to suffer. When we have it in our power to stop injustice and suffering, do we have an obligation to act, even if it means we must deny free will? We could send our armies around the world everywhere, to overthrow governments and to force social compliance with standards that apportion food and shelter equally and to make sure nobody goes without, and that everyone eats healthily. Hypothetically, we could do that because we have the sheer force of power, of strength and might and advantage. Should we do so, if we can ease suffering by enforcing our own will even when it defies and removes the will of others, including those who suffer?
The cause of justice is never served by stripping society of free will. It will only cause more suffering in the end. Our attempts to use our mighty strength and powers to do our perceived duty by acting to end suffering, even if it means forcing the world to comply with our own will, would only lead to more suffering.
To put it into a spiritual perspective, God could force the world to be perfect, but He leaves it in the hands of imperfect beings for a reason. Because free will matters, and no situation of forced perfection is truly perfect because it would lack free will.
Lead by example, not by force of might. Bullies are the ones who impose their own will at the expense of others.
These are lessons Superman came to understand, because in order to save everyone he would have to use all of his powers all of the time to reorder the world in a way that lets him best protect and defend us from any harm. The true limitations are not in his own powers, but in our societies, really, and in the fact humanity is still learning to advance our moral and intellectual development to keep up with our technological ability to destroy one another. If Superman gave in to this fundamental truth, accepting that his powers are not the problem, but rather society is the problem, and he decided to become our dictator, that is the only way he could truly save everyone.
And it would be a nightmare, it would destroy the human spirit and he would have to become everything he fights against. That is not the man he is in his heart, not the man he was raised to be. Superman came to understand that humanity is not defined by the problems in our world -- those worst examples aren't "human nature," and he's seen true human nature up-close. People working side-by-side in impoverished nations to rebuild homes and harvest crops, people just trying to live their lives and raise their children and have a life with simple pleasures and without harming other people.
He knows the world is full of good people. Humanity doesn't need a ruler, it needs a champion, someone to stand up for what's right, to fight for us and help set an example. Someone who will unselfishly champion us without demanding control and dominion over us. And that is what Superman chooses to be.
Paul Dini's excellent Superman: Peace on Earth ( dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=1564 ) touches heavily on this topic, in a story in which Superman decides to try and rid the world of hunger. It's beautifully painted by Alex Ross, and is a very moving tale. In the end, Superman concludes that to solve this and other problems, humanity must learn to work together and share with one another.

I have found that I respect those who have experienced traumatic situations yet they treat others with kindness and understanding. Rather than propagating this "if I was hurt then I will hurt others NONSENSE" yes broken people do that and it's not okay! I respect people who have been hurt, experienced pain suffering and they don't want to ever do that to others because they understand how terrible it is.. we still have so much to learn about the layers of the human mind and urges. I always feel it's fine, and uncontrollable if a random morbid thought pops into your head, it's a part of our human nature, but it's up to Us to decide if we act upon that random thought. We should be comfortable with our abstract internal mental voice that it doesn't always make sense or need to be listened to, we are allowed to have abstract thoughts and thought experiments. It doesn't make us a bad person. If we act out and hurt another person tho, that's bad. It's easy to understand and for some reason we muddy up the line of separation of good and bad person... Just don't hurt others.

Thanks. As far as the infant experiments are concerned, one could easily make an evolutionary argument. Maybe they prefer the helpful avatar because, as infants, they need a lot of help! I don't necessarily buy that myself, but it's about as defensible as any other explanation. The question of human nature is fiendishly complex. We may never parse it out completely. The Stanford Prison experiment was seriously flawed. The Milgram experiment - as well as the nursing scenario - could also have other explanations. One could posit that people are more likely to do something questionable under another's authority simply because the outcome wouldn't be their fault. I'd like to see (or know of any existing) experiments designed specifically to test what difference it makes when a person is under authority, versus when they are solely responsible for the results. I've worked in enough situations to know from my own experience that the boss can't blame me if I do things as I'm told. That's what we're used to. There are things I've done under orders that I wouldn't do if I'd been in charge. It may surprise many people to learn that even violence and atrocity can be normalized, but they can. It's happened plenty of times before. It will again. The psychological reasons go much deeper, I think, than just good or evil in a given person. I will only add that I quit a job once because they actually asked me to lie to legal authority. Only they would have benefitted. Only I would've gotten in trouble. Yet, I was the only one who quit. That does not make me feel virtuous, so much as sad. tavi.
