When you’re doing that, the only way your guy loses is by getting screwed somehow by his rival. That keeps the heat going. You don’t have him go in a shoot against a jobber and get legit knocked out. That not only runs the risk of injury but also kills the guy’s momentum in his feud because he no longer looks like a monster if a job guy can beat him. People are far less likely to spend money on a PPV when they know that “hey, this job guy beat him, so why pay to see Austin beat him?” It killed the angle.
