I always find it stupid whenever any vhs horror stuff has a vhs tape that was supposedly made against the evil things, yet the tape somehow got modified by the thing, and instead of just blocking all the survival strategies, they add their picture and some scary sentence. FNAF VHS tapes are particularly guilty of this by having tapes that show the souls suffering using the animatronics in pain, which means the souls either know how to do 3d animation or they somehow filmed them without anyone noticing. Spectre is one that does it in what I believe to be good way since they are basically just VHS tapes that someone would have filmed without any ghost modifications.
But don't you understand, even though completely blocking any information about them would be much more effective, how could you resist spooking the audience mildly by making a loud sound with your face on the screen?
To be fair, the animatronics are possessed by literal children, and I'm willing to bet that none of them are over the age of 12, 14 if you're really pushing it; they're probably just trying to get someone to notice their situation, which warps the tapes, but since they don't really know what they're doing, it only partly works.

Imagine making an analog horror series about humans living together with weird, sapient monsters that are human like us in terms of general morals and have been popping up for a while now, and the horror part primarily comes from real life issues such as discrimination and such. Well, I wanted to make a series inspired by that idea, too.

Imagine you're walking down a street in a city, it's night and suddenly you hear a noise. You turn around and see this big ugly monster thing. What would you do A. Run away as fast as you can B. Call for help and see if anyone helps you C. Try and fight the monster D. Stand there do absolutely nothing and wait for the monster to do the first move. Because for some reason when it comes to analog horror everyone chooses option D.
Realistically I think run, scream or fight are all better options than shitting myself and dying on the spot, but the 4th one is the only thing I'd be able to do

I was going to do an analog horror that focused on a comic book that caused people to grow more and more angry until they got irrationally violent, and the more people did this the more reality got messed up. Basically the elevator pitch is picture a mix of the Crazies and In the mouth of madness. Even did some sketches of scene ideas, all done in stylized art because I figured it fit the theme and stood out. The community HATED this idea, and I just scraped it.
The Painter: "Victim was stabbed eleventy trillion times in the genitals and rolled into a sushi mat, the killer then painted the victim and sent it to the police with the title 'Sushi Dick Steve' and accidentally sent his ID document along with the painting, police still has no clue how to find him"
I got kinda bored of the genre when I realized a lot of the new ones are just stuff I've already seen but slightly different. Like, why do they all include instructional videos? Why are all the scary monsters just peoples' faces but photoshopped to look all wacky? Why do some pretend to be real footage or photos when they're clearly drawings? I mean I'm generalizing here, but what started as a clever way to use budget limitations to enhance the horror quickly became an easy way to make popular content with little effort. I at least appreciate when the filmmakers are putting a lot of effort into the visuals for videos that are made to look low quality. And when the director manages to write realistic dialogue and find actors that sound natural, that goes a long way (Kane Pixels is pretty great on both those fronts imo, if you consider his stuff analogue horror). It's supposed to be found footage, so it's extra noticeable when the dialogue is stilted and the actors are probably the director's siblings

The walten files and monument mythos, Greylock too as Mondo said, have a story. They convey a story through the analog horror style, that's why they're so acclaimed, so loved, because they don't go for the low bar. But most analog horror series, even good ones, get so stereotypical. Tangi Virus, smile tapes, Sinkhole, Güby and friends which came out recently, even urban spook to some extent even though that one is simply a portfolio from someone who needs professional help. Anyway, what I'm saying is, don't compare basic analog horror to things like the Walten Files or Greylock, the difference in the amount of work and attention to detail is too large

There are a few exceptions.
Vita carnis is the first that came to my mind. Fully fledged universe and lore, not just some random single entity.

I got kinda bored of the genre when I realized a lot of the new ones are just stuff I've already seen but slightly different. Like, why do they all include instructional videos? Why are all the scary monsters just peoples' faces but photoshopped to look all wacky? Why do some pretend to be real footage or photos when they're clearly drawings? I mean I'm generalizing here, but what started as a clever way to use budget limitations to enhance the horror quickly became an easy way to make popular content with little effort.
I at least appreciate when the filmmakers are putting a lot of effort into the visuals for videos that are made to look low quality. And when the director manages to write realistic dialogue and find actors that sound natural, that goes a long way (Kane Pixels is pretty great on both those fronts imo, if you consider his stuff analogue horror). It's supposed to be found footage, so it's extra noticeable when the dialogue is stilted and the actors are probably the director's siblings

The walten files and monument mythos, Greylock too as Mondo said, have a story. They convey a story through the analog horror style, that's why they're so acclaimed, so loved, because they don't go for the low bar.
But most analog horror series, even good ones, get so stereotypical. Tangi Virus, smile tapes, Sinkhole, Güby and friends which came out recently, even urban spook to some extent even though that one is simply a portfolio from someone who needs professional help.
Anyway, what I'm saying is, don't compare basic analog horror to things like the Walten Files or Greylock, the difference in the amount of work and attention to detail is too large
