@@benarnoux That should be ok if you have a usb C-A cable. I think there is a problem with the latest version of Mac OSX Catalina. It's going to do with software and firmware updates. This has happened to me when I upgrade Mac OS and often I have to update Lightroom following the OS update and sometimes even the camera firmware. If the software is all up to date next thing to double check is the cable. But if you are using the USB C cable that came with the camera it should be fine.
Hello and ideas as to why I don't get the tethering capture option in file? The camera is connected to the computer because EOS Utility works, so I am not sure how to get that option on lightroom
Hi there, I would suggest that you check the version of Lightroom that you have installed. There are two versions of this software, Lightroom Classic which has all the pro features and Adobe Lightroom. The tether option is available on LightRoom Classic but I can't see it on Adobe Lightroom..
@@AdamariMedia Yeah I only realised there were two versions a couple of years back when I did the same after picking up my new Macbook Pro and installing the CC software and came across the exact same issue.
@@Touchtechnologyreview Hi I'm having trouble detecting my camera using your same exact setup but running Big Sur. Is this a known issue and more importantly is there a fix yet?
Yeah there are often updates in Lightroom to support camera RAW.. The only way to find out it so go to the Adobe site and check the notes on the Lightroom updates to see which one supports it and that might mean an upgrade is required.

Not sure about doing it using WIFI on the Utility app. I don't see that option on my software. If you are using another app in it offers WIFI you can find your MAC address (This does not mean Apple) in windows run/ipconfig command
It depends on what OS you have. Best to update to the latest version. I find that every time Mac OS is updated it stops working and I have to update to the newest version of light room.
Lightroom doesn't provide you with a live view feature. When tethered you can see the live view if you like on the LCD screen of the camera but the photo only shows up once you tap on the shutter button. Certainly you can use The Canon EOS Utility to operate the camera with the live view function. When you take the photo it goes into the destination folder of choice. I have heard of a solution where you can then get Adobe Lightroom to auto import from a specific folder, however I haven't tested that out.
@@Touchtechnologyreview That's good enough for me! I asked this because my current Nikon D7200 shuts off in-camera live view completely while tethering, and in-monitor tether just sucks up too much battery
I have an older Macbook Pro which doesn't have a usb-c port. When I connect my EOS R to my laptop via a usb-c to usb cable and follow the steps, lightroom says "no camera detected". The camera is connected to the laptop in Image Capture, however, there is an issue where I can't see any of the photos on my SD card there either. Seems to work fine when I plug into my iMac which does have a usb-c port but frustrating as I obviously my iMac isn't very portable! Any ideas apart from buying a new laptop?
hi, i'm using a 6dm2 to tether using mini usb -> usb type A and the experience is horrifying, the connection drops easily. Would like to ask if the same issue persist on eos r with type c to type c connections?
I haven't tested with the latest R6. However there were times when my EOS R stopped working usually after updating to the latest version of OSX. So to fix I had to update the latest version of Lightroom and also the to the latest version of the Canon EOS utility. Sometimes it is also necessary to update the firmware on the Camera, but usually the Software updates will do the trick.
So do I need to make sure the camera is in focus before i start shooting or will it still focus like it normally would after I turn the simulation off?
Pei Chu focus will act as normal with or without exposure simulation on. It works if You tap on the camera shutter or the software shutter button in Lightroom.
You don't use the HDMI port for this, you need to use usb, so if your computer doesn't have usb c then you need to get a usb c to usb type A cable for tethering with the EOS R.
