    Cody nailed it in the final seconds of this video. "The best camera is the one you can afford to replace." Last Summer I was shooting on an R5 with the 85mm F1.2 and it stayed in my camera bag for most adventures because I was terrified I would drop it, scratch it, break it. LOL

      Or just be willing to lose it and 'have' to replace it. I've taken my 5d mark IV, which I know, I know, it's a cheap camera now, but 5 years ago wasn't, out on the buffalo river many times to take pictures. I put it in a zip loc baggy, then when I felt the canoe and environment were reasonably safe, I took that baby out and got some great shots. Taken it hiking many times in places I could have fallen hard. That's always been a pet peeve of mine though. People buying stuff and not using it. If you have a pickup truck and the bed has not a single scratch on it, you should have bought a car my friend.

      if a camera cost more than 1k it isnt entry level lmfao. i shoot on a sonya7r3a but i didnt start on a 2k mirrorless system i started when i was 14 on a $350 used d3500 with a 18-50 (i think) kit lens.
      I traded that into mpb and got a d5300 and a Sigma 50mm Art for about 300 dollar difference when i was 16, and then i sold that body and lens and got the Sony when i was 18.
      most "entry-level" photographers are kids and teens just getting into the hobby, if you tell them a $1k camera body is entry-level you'll scare em off

I have friends who have the R6/RP and R so I've been fortunate enough to test them all out and there's a noticeable difference for me between the RP and the R6 so I've been wanting something closer to the R6 but without the crazy price and I feel like this hits right in the sweet spot.

    I'm very tempted by this camera as a travel body. I do want an R5, but with my 5D III I'm always reluctant to bring it out on a trip due to weight. This is so nice and light and still full-frame. I only wish this had come out a couple of months earlier for my upcoming trips.

    • @alistairbeavis1536

      Defintiely weight is a big plus. I moved from a 6D to the RP and saved almost 300g in weight, the R8 is lighter still. The closest Sony is the a7c which is 48g heavier and costs more.

      @@TheArtofKAS for real! I mean they should know that people that want to dive into photography don’t have the budget for expensive lenses right away. Might as well let people get good lenses at a fair price with third party lenses then when people get more “serious” and get more business from it they can upgrade to their brand lenses. You know, I’m still using Canon 650D and I must say although it’s an old camera and I have to use tripod a lot because 400 iso already brings so much noise, I’ve learned that it really doesn’t matter what camera you have. The idea and creativity always outplays the equipment!

    • @ducaveli
      @ducaveli 2 роки тому +1

      I’m also doing all my stuff on a 650d, which has been more than good enough to get my channel off the ground to 1.2k subs but it’s now way behind in terms of specs. The R8 seems like the next step from that perspective

    • @geotsaou
      @geotsaou 2 роки тому +1

      It always depends on what you are shooting too. I have a canon 800d and shooting sports is a struggle. Some days in the autumn's/winter's afternoon around 2-3 that i have to bump up my ISO a little bit, i feel like I'm not good enough because the camera is kind of limiting me. 800 or 1600 iso is not ideal for my eyes. Not the noise so much as the colour shifting and sharpness that destroy many photos for me.

    I use a Canon RP. It has the same body (different button layouts) and same battery, but it is just a little bit better having oversampled 4k 60, and 120fps in 1080p. If i didnt had my camera right now i would go with the R8. Great video!!!!!

      RP only does 120fps in 720p vs 190fps in 1080p on R8. the 4k on the RP also uses a much poorer old quality autofocus than that of the R8. The dynamic range is likely much better on the R8. food for thought my friend.

      @@cjme311280 For me the main reason is Animal Eye AF, and the fast silent electronic shutter. The RP is my first FF body, and I love the image quality of the RP, but it's slooooow. I mostly shoot wildlife, and the RP doesn't have the electronic shutter, and with servo AF it has only 4 FPS.

    How cool would it be if Canon would give us dual sensor tech? One body 2 sensors. One high meg sensor for studio, flexibility with printing, cropping power, post processing power etc and one low meg sensor for low light capabilities that are superior to high megs. Maybe call it the R2 for dual sensors IDK just an idea. Imagine not having to carry multiple bodies, and then pair it with the new 24-105 2.8! Ultimate setup in my opinion. Canon could use less materials but charge more money all while making less of a carbon footprint on the environment. Canon wins, professionals win, the environment wins, it's a win across the board. Nikon and Sony and any other camera user that dont use Canon would lose sleep at night because they know deep down the switch is going to happen , just kidding , ....but really though. Pete I bet you could get this to the right person. By the way your channel is illmatic , cheers to a new year.
