SOLD! I have used Fusion on my daughter's bedroom set and loved how it turned out. Now I am looking to renovate old orange pine coffee and end tables and after watching 10,000 other videos on DIY painting furniture, this is the winner. Love the recommendation on the sealer as well. THANK YOU THANK YOU! Decision is made!
Yay for Fusion! I’m so glad you enjoyed working with it, and your piece turned out beautiful! You’re right, it does take a bit more brush technique than working with chalk paint, that’s a great tip to share
Wow! Just wow! It turned out to be gorgeous. And, yes, more of this type of video, please. Plus I love that your videos are concise and to-the-point, yet thorough.
I want to add a quick note. I've seen fusion reps comment on videos like this. Kudos on the great content. Second, fusion reps frequently comment that their mineral paint is designed to be applied by using very little paint on the brush and very few brush strokes to apply. I've used fusion an it is very fun to spread around like butter but next time I will try to do as few strokes as possible. Their own fusion brush is very thick so it makes sense that if you use their dense brush, a little paint is actually a good amount of paint vs that thinner Wooster brush in this video. New subscriber here. This is one of the better concise and well trimmed videos.
This peice of furniture turned out beautiful. I recomend using the brushes that go with the fusion line... they make a huge difference.. and your paint may go further.
I just wanted to add, as a Fusion seller, we ALWAYS recommend a scuff sand before painting. Prep is key and Fusion is an acrylic paint so it doesn't have the same adhesion qualities as chalk paint.
It looks SO GOOD!! Would you ever think that something like a coat of paint could completely update an old piece of furniture? You make me want to paint everything! LOL
I have a hutch started and it looked just like yours , this video help me a lot. Buy I can’t figure out if I should leave it all white or add some gold trim to mineto suit my decor 🤷🏼♀️
That piece looks great. You make it look so easy. There are a few paint lines I'd like to try and Fusion is one of them...however, I live in the US and it's nowhere to be found in my area. Charlotte NC area. The shipping cost for ordering it online is a bit pricey as well. Also, their UA-cam channel isn't updated. I would like to see videos by them more frequently. Your piece looks amazing. Oh, I just found your channel. I am a new subbie :)
Thank you! You may try amazon as it is available on Amazon in the US. Also, their website provides a list of local stockists. We have three just in Virginia Beach.
I can't imagine Ethan Allen NOT using real wood especially on the top. You did a really nice job with this piece. The color has some depth even though it's off whitish looking. And the Satin finish is a nice poly top coat. In one word: Classy.
Thank you, great video. I just wanted to know potentially some pros and cons of chalk paint vs the fusion. Can you distress the fusion paint like chalk paint? I am redoing my hutch and want and durable paint that I could potentially wipe with water is needed, therefore I am shying away from chalk paint and looking at the fusion, but want to distress the piece prior to sealing. Thank you.
It sounds like you are leaning toward Fusion, which I think is the right fit for your project. If you seal it with water based poly, you will be able to wipe it clean and it will definitely be durable. Fusion has a built in top coat, but I do suggest an extra coat or two of poly on top just to seal it and get rid of the matte feel. Chalk paint is great, but do think Fusion is much more durable. Yes, you can distress it and there are a few methods to do that with Fusion. Check out their youtube channel for some examples. It differs slightly from chalk paint, so you will want to look into that. Good luck on your project!
Hey Megan! Loved this video, I am researching now so I can paint my stepdaughters dresser and think Fusion is the best I have seen thus far; I am wondering if the poly top coat you used made the piece "sticky" at all? I specifically am avoiding latex paint because of that, it's a huge pet peeve of mine to have things "stick" to painted furniture and I know Fusion will not be sticky on its own, but also am leaning towards a top coat because my kids are crazy and I think the more durable the better lol, but want to make sure it wont have that sticky feel!
Absolutely not a sticky feel. Fusion cures on its own in 21 days and doesn’t “need” a top coat which is really cool. It just has a very matte feel without a top coat so I opted for the poly on this piece to give it a softer feel. But sticky is not a word id use anywhere near fusion mineral paint.
I've been wanting to use this paint for my kitchen cabinets--have you had any issues with it chipping over time since the bar wasn't fully sanded? I'm hoping no, so I don't have to sand 😁
I used it on my kitchen cabinets and it haven't started chipping away all. I did prep though. Cleaned, scuff-sanded and used BIN Shellac primer (in case of bleeding). I would STRONGLY suggest scuff-sanding to give your paint something to adhere to. Especially if there is a little shine to your cupboards.
@@MeganBell there is a dealer in Red Hook, NY. It is Hudson Valley Vintage and they sell the entire line of Fusion Mineral Paint. The woman that own it and runs it (Risa), is very knowledgeable and helpful. I love Fusion and the entire line. It covers so well and looks absolutely beautiful. It is so easy also. I live part time in Tampa, FL and there is a dealer there. Go to Fusion Mineral Paint website and find out if your area has a dealer, good luck. Give it a try.
I haven’t been subscribed to your channel long enough to know if you have played with the silk line of Dixie Belle but I feel that they’re comparable and I actually think you might like that better because it’ll go further I think fusion is expensive worth it but in the end you might’ve only used a third or half of the jar as opposed to the entire jar so maybe some thing on your bucket list
I didn’t, but I was SUPER careful not to and I show how to avoid brush strokes with any brush in the video. But I do have a staahlmaster brush and it is SUPER nice and I’d say worth the investment if you plan to do some larger or several pieces.
I just use ordinary emulsion paint - the same paint I use on my walls. It doesn't need any priming, I just paint it straight on and I get a really good finish. Not had any chipping or peeling, seems immune even to my cats scratching a rubbing, even after 5 years.
I really want to do my bedroom furniture , it’s kind of like mahogany , do I need to sand it down , and when I say “ sand it” do I have to remove all the mahogany colour ? Because that would just be way to much work for me..
I tried the fusion the coal black..... it streaked terribly. Never had that issue with chalk paint. I used a very good brush, cleaned and scuff sanded, and it streaked.... did I do something wrong?
Against the wood it probably looked white, but once it is dry and up against a white wall, you can see that yes it is sort of a greige. More beige than gray for certain!
Thank you so much for the kind words! We absolutely loved watching you try Fusion and transform your piece :)
Absolutely! Definitely my new favorite paint for furniture!

Love this paint and I also love their top coat. Ready to use and always great results!
Your videos are so therapeutic and inspiring !! thank you for making them
Glad you like them! That means so much 💛
Beautiful job!! Hoping you put some poly on the hardware after all of your scrubbing. It gives you so much more time in between polishing

I totally agree!
Loved how this turned out. I will definitely check out this paint as an option for my project
Thank you! You definitely should!
Is the color Cathedral Taupe? Did I see that correctly? It's very nice and you did a beautiful job!

Is Fusion paint bumpy like chalk paint? I'm using chalk paint for the first time and I don't like it. I've always used enamel.
@@erikaw5669 not at all. It dries to a smooth finish.
I was just about to ask about sanding. Do you recommend a primer?
@@sarahhagen2051 it depends. If there is potential bleed through or if you are going from extreme dark wood to light.
Love how it turned out. Absolutely gorgeous!

Hi I am a newbie and would like to ask why you did not lightly sand the whole cabinet before painting?
I probably should have in hindsight, but it has worked out for me fine having not. I will definitely on my next piece for added insurance.
Beautiful work!

Very informative, I think I will try it.

So no sanding prep needed, only good cleaning with the Simple Green?

Cathedral taupe by fusion mineral paint

Can this paint be sprayed with HVLP gun sprayer
Did u not sand the entire piece? Can this be used without sanding?

So you don't sand the furniture before?
