Uhh I think you lost marks for answering question wrong?
That used to be the case up to a few years ago but they changed the rules for the JMC. There are still penalties in the competitions for older students.
Last year I received a silver award, this year I have received a gold and am moving to the next round!!! Get presented by the head on Thursday 😳😳😳

hello, thank you so much for your help. I have a question though. Im actually doing the challenge tomorrow! Anyways, I attend a grammar school, so it is compulsory for me to do it in year 7. Is it compulsory for me to do it next year as well? Even if i dont get a certificate
hi, this is funny coz i go to a grammar school as well and im doing mine tmrw as well.
anyway, it was compulsory for us to do it in yr seven and eight, from yea nine u get to choose tho. thing is we probably dont go to the same school and every school is different but thats probably the acse

Your school may or not make you do it, but in general it’s an optional competition and each year is independent. So if you do it in year 7 and 8 you could get 2 certificates, one for each year, and possibly qualify for the follow on rounds once or twice. Each year is totally separate, it’s not a qualification like gcse or a level. Good luck tomorrow!
Thank you very much!!! The test was way more easier than any of the past papers, so I'm assuming next year's exam will be tough. Like I managed to do all 25 questions with 12 mins to spare, and everyone in my class had a similar experience!!!
Hello Sir would we need to show working in the 2024 UKMT Junior Math Challenge to get the mark or is it multiple choice like last year?

Hey i wanted to ask if it’s allowed to do your workout in the exam paper?
Yes the only thing that’s taken in for marking is the sheet with your multiple choice answers, so you can write on the paper and scrap paper as well. Working isn’t graded for the maths challenges (except in the Olympiad follow on rounds)
My son secured a gold certificate this year but they say that he could not qualify for olympiad. He is 14 marks less than to go to next level. I don’t understand this. Is there a set threshold to enter into Olympiad? Very disappointed he is.
Yes there are higher boundaries but it is possible to make a discretionary entry even if they don’t automatically qualify - there’s more info under the relevant questions on this page as well as links to a page with all grade boundaries mathsaurus.com/ukmt-junior-maths-challenge/
My skl didnt even tell us what we were doing until literally right before we were going to do it 💀💀 ALSO i dont think i filled the squares in properly so ill prob get like 0/135 atp 😖😖⁉️

I get asked this a lot - short answer it's not easy, but list yourself on lots of website and ask anyone you know if they know anyone needing help. I get asked this a lot so I'll try to make some videos about this sort of thing later in the year for sure!
