The disc didn’t smell like rubber, per se. Rather it was like those scratch ‘n’ sniff stickers. The idea being that as you played the game for a few hours the disc would warm up and you’d get the aroma of burnt rubber 😂absolutely brilliant.
1: GT has got to be PlayStation’s best overall game. 2: Started watching you right before you quit your day job; it’s truly amazing to see how far you’ve grown as a UA-camr and a racer. Your various types of content with GT has directly impacted my gameplay and I thank you for helping me gain more enjoyment in my GT career. Let’s go!
GT2 was such a life changing game and one of my favourite parts of it was you could buy all the stock versions of British touring cars and add the race modification to make them exactly like the BTCC cars. I will never get rid of my memory card with my gt2 saved game on it
This was different and very welcomed. Love the nostalgia hit, I feel like the best times in gaming now is going back rather than forward. You, SuperGT, Jimmer and Basic Ollie are the reasons I now have a rig and a wife who hates my guts for it. Keep up the great work.
I remember commenting on a video, where you hit almost 100k subs and you answered, that you're gonna believe the 100k when you actually see it. Here we are now with over 160k! You can be really proud - well done and keep up the great work!
fun fact. you could have used the duel shock on gt 1 and 2. but overall what a jump in time going through each game in the video. gran turismo has to be the best racing game series still.
I still remember the day i bought gran turismo. The feeling i put the disc in for the first times. I was really amazed. Never ever had that feeling of a game
@EERIEISSSS I think cod has gone downhill a little, due to the modern landscape of gaming but it definitely is still a high quality game that has been around forever now
I'm really glad for the direction GTS and GT7 took. Focusing on less car with flawless detail was just the right thing to do. Every car actually feels unique and that's amazing. I occasionally play GT4 and despite the newer GTs being "inferior" in many people's eyes, I seriously prefer the new ones. Sure, it was the best the PS2 could muster but I still don't like it that much. And let's not forget that GTS and GT7 has controller gyro steering, don't want to invest in a wheel now so it's a lifesaver for better steering and precision
Started with GT3, then GT4 then didn't really play GT5.... came back with GT7 mostly thanks to watching SuperGT and yourself Rory here on UA-cam, Now my PS5 is knackered, so need to get that fixed (HDMI port issue) as I want to jump back in.
Only got to play GT1 in 2000, then played GT2 in 2002 around the time GT3 was launch (I didn't even know about it). Could never afford a PS2/PS3/PS4, and only now, when life's kinda in the right way, I could get a PS5 and get back playing GT7. It's been a great ride nonetheless.
Great vid, weird it didn't' serve this up on the algorythm, I had to hunt it out after hearing about it on your steam, good to hear a bit of the origin story!
Love it. A history of GT and a history of Rory. I remember when you made the career step. Amazing how good you are, and how brave. Looking forward to lots more content in the future. Thanks!! :)
Imagine at the time, buying a ps1 and gran turismo and being wowed by the graphics and details in the game😲 even if its low resolution, and then the quality and graphics gets better with each release and each generation of the PlayStation consoles.
Yeo, that was my journey with GranTurismo, a outlet for my driving passion from just before I turned 6, and obvs couldn't drive for real, all the way past me getting my license, and now its still my outlet for the driving i really must not do on the public roads 😅. It was magical growing up with ever more real cars at my fingertips, on console, tantalising me to get driving when i was finally old enough, I was getting so impatient by about age 11 I was saying to parents, how come i cant take my driving test just because I'm not 17, if i can see over the wheel, and reach the pedals, and pass the test then i should be able to drive, but thank God for GranTurismo 😊
Nearly a quarter of a century later I came back to the GT series with a second hand PS4VR... ...stunned at how far it's come since GT1, VR is the nuts. Not for everyone but my body appears to be compatible with it. That was a week ago.
Sorry it took me time to get round to watching this. A great little nostalgia hit. My uncle was playing GT2 in 99', and he sat me down and taught me the basic concepts of racing. Got so many hours out of it, many many play throughs I, like you was a HUGE fan of the FTO!!! GPX 97', always wanted one, though I dreamed of RWD swapping it haha. I must say though, I really miss the old tracks and the huge car selections. PLEASE Polyphony, give us Red Rock, Apricot Hill, Classic Grand Valley, Seattle, Rome, Rome night, and some of our old favourite cars!
I hope you don't compare those from this video, because GT4 is not shown right here, it is stretched to 16:9 from 4:3, he did not use the ingame 16:9 option so it looks horrible. But GT3 was indeed the biggest leap forward from any other game in the series, mostly because of the huge hardware leap from PS1 to PS2. GT4 was just a little more polished graphically, and better overall than GT3, not the stretchy mess we witnessed in this video.
@@musicophileDog I'll agree GT4 looks more polished and has way more features than GT3 however GT3 has better colour & sun light effects than GT4 even on the original PS2 hardware plus the cars in GT4 felt way too stiff like it wants to understeer all the time whereas the cars in GT3 were much more responsive especially on Rally tracks
@@AdamTheMan1993 I suppose as better colour you refer to more saturation that GT3 had over 4, which for me is not preferred. None of the 2 was photo-realistic, but the less saturated colors of GT4 made it a little more realistic looking than GT3 imo. For the cars you can compensate with proper setups, but both felt totally odd on Rally races, maybe GT3 was a little better but neither was on par with other Rally games. They excelled at the time for (almost)sim circuit racing, modifications etc. For Rally racing there are other, better games from the era to play. Also, i recently played GT3 and GT4 on my PS2 with proper RGB video out on CRT TV, and both are amazing, but GT4 is still a better game on every aspect, but GT3 deserves a special place because of the huge generational leap from GT2 to GT3. GT3 is still the racing game that sold the most copies worldwide for the PS2.
Gran Turismo is a landmark of the racing game genre. Analysing each game compared to its contemporaries shows an overwhelming contrast between its rivals. Before the first game came out, you'd be lucky if a game had 20 cars in it, and most of them would be expensive supercars. But the original GT had cars you could see and drive every day. It brought an attachment to the player like no other game could. In a way, it's more of a car enthusiast's game rather than a fully-fledged racing sim, and I think that's been even more noticeable since Gran Turismo 4.
i also started working around gt4 release, but having my job mean i was able to buy a ps2 and gt4 and whatever time i was not in school or work was spent on gt4
Of all the GT games, I own the 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th (Technically 8th) games. Now I feel like I'm missing out on the 1st, 2nd and 4th. Screw Sport, tho. Oh, if only I had somewhere to hook up my old PS2; I could be going back to that 3rd game and reliving those sweet childhood memories. This was the franchise that got me into video games and will always be one of my favorite franchises. Even if GT7 still has a few notable issues that need to be addresses, I will always stand by this game as my go-to driving sim.
Growing up, Gran Turismo and Speed Channel were the biggest reasons why I really grew to love motorsport. God I miss Speed Channel....😢 Edit: I guess Speed is still around? Just on UA-cam.
PS4 came out on the 15th of November 2013, and GT6 came out on the 6th of December 2013, I don't get why they didn't put GT6 on the PS4 when it was made not long after 😆
Hey rory just wondering if you would know what is the best drift car for beginners? Or anyone for a matter of fact if anyone knows that would be greatly appreciated
I always preferred GT3 over 4. I just felt like the game had more life to it. If that makes sense. I also have the fondest memories of playing that game as a child.
did you remember? the Disc of GT smelled like Tire rubber. And the graphics of GT1 Where amazing that time. i had never seen anything like it in 1997.
I will never forget that😂😂😂😂😂
That was Gran Turismo 2 :)
The disc didn’t smell like rubber, per se. Rather it was like those scratch ‘n’ sniff stickers. The idea being that as you played the game for a few hours the disc would warm up and you’d get the aroma of burnt rubber 😂absolutely brilliant.

Let’s go!
Seattle was my favourite circuit. I would love it in gt7
That would be awesome ... ich love this track at gt4 back in the day 🫡
Yeah I remember the city tracks, loved them 😅
no you wouldn't mate
GT2 was such a life changing game and one of my favourite parts of it was you could buy all the stock versions of British touring cars and add the race modification to make them exactly like the BTCC cars. I will never get rid of my memory card with my gt2 saved game on it
The amount of nostalgia behind GT3 is amazing. The countless hours I spent alongside my dad almost brings tears to my eyes remembering it
I've got to say, GT4 still looks incredible for a PS2 game. I'm still blown away by its beauty every time I boot it up.
This was different and very welcomed. Love the nostalgia hit, I feel like the best times in gaming now is going back rather than forward. You, SuperGT, Jimmer and Basic Ollie are the reasons I now have a rig and a wife who hates my guts for it. Keep up the great work.
The love of the franchise is clear to see. I guess you do owe it a lot tbf. Long may it continue.
Gt1 i will never forget the moment seeing it in CEX and my jaw dropped looking ar the replay. Stunning game for its time
Gt4 was my favourite and still is. What a game
I remember commenting on a video, where you hit almost 100k subs and you answered, that you're gonna believe the 100k when you actually see it. Here we are now with over 160k! You can be really proud - well done and keep up the great work!
What a journey! Both for GT as a franchise and for your channel! It's amazing how far things have come. Cheers.

I used to like the hi-fi mode in GT1 where it upped the framerate but cut back on background objects.
gran turismo on the psp was my first gran turismo
Great video which brought back some great memories. It’s made me realise how much I miss Midfield Raceway though.
GT is one of the only gaming franchises that had kept a very high bar throughout its lifetime!
This and Call of Duty are top tier franchises IMO
@EERIEISSSS I think cod has gone downhill a little, due to the modern landscape of gaming but it definitely is still a high quality game that has been around forever now
Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Mario, Zelda, Assassin's Creed ( I'm gonna get shit for that one😂 ). There are many high quality franchises 🤔
Forza too! Many franchises kept the bar high over the years, that's why we still love and anticipate for new releases etc.
@@musicophileDogDefinitely:). I played Forza 2-4 and 6 instead of Gt5 and 6 :)
I started to play Gran Turismo with GT3 and i was 8 years old.The GOAT in my opinion is the 4° but all GT that i played are in my heart❤️🔥
I'm really glad for the direction GTS and GT7 took. Focusing on less car with flawless detail was just the right thing to do. Every car actually feels unique and that's amazing. Omg the fto I love it. I used the racing edition all the time. Loved that car
It was my go to starter car, before I got the F1 car and completed everything 😂
Exactly the video I was looking for 💙 brings back so many memories this, great video

Great video Rory!
Loved it! Great video brought me really back in time. Keep going Rory amazing stuff! See you tomorrow on the livestream offcourse.

Love this Rory! Soo many nostalgic memories! What a game!
I’ve played every gran tourismo since the first release and I’ve loved them all
I think it's great you're doing content like this, I really enjoy these kind of videos. For me gt4, gt6 and gt7 are the best ones.
Thanks mate, good video. That Seattle track was one of my favourites. Also, well done on the AUS account.
Great vid, weird it didn't' serve this up on the algorythm, I had to hunt it out after hearing about it on your steam, good to hear a bit of the origin story!
GT6 had the biggest update to tire physics of all the games. It added a much improved tire model with proper transitions from grip to no grip.
Love it. A history of GT and a history of Rory. I remember when you made the career step. Amazing how good you are, and how brave. Looking forward to lots more content in the future. Thanks!! :)
Very nice video idea Rory. Gran Turismo games are awesome!

Another awesome video, great to see the evolution of Gran Turismo and your journey.
oh how I'd love that original Trial Mountain final chicane
Gran Turismo… the series that made *everyone* stand up and take notice.
Long live Gran Turismo.
I remember gt5 online JDM cruises on Special Stage Route 7, admire everyones build and eventually start pairing off for drag races
good memories - hooked since GT3 on PS2 - but came back only for GT6 on PS5
Wow, amazing video. I went from GT1 or GT2 to GT7 haha. Oh and loved the inclusion of the R34, nice one
Great video, brought back some memories, a nice walk down memory lane.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Love it. What a game.
Nearly a quarter of a century later I came back to the GT series with a second hand PS4VR...

Gran Turismo 3 😍😍😍 Glad u are happy with being full time youtuber!
Nice video man
Gt4 was my all time favorite.
GT4 is indeed the best GT game, but GT2 has a special place in my heart because of childhood memories.
Been gaming since 86...my favourite atr GT3 and GT6....I love to see a remaster of toca touring cars or some of the 90s btcc cars added
Gran Turismo 3 still looks so good 23 years after it was first released, the minor details GT3 had made it look more superior over GT4

Yeah, I like the vivid colors of 3. Also 3rd person camera looks so much better for some reason, more dynamic
To me Gran Turismo (2 & 4 specifically) are my favorites during my PlayStation years (childhood and teen days). God bless you 🙏🥰😌🙏
I wished they stuck with the GT3 camera instead they decided to keep the extremely stiff camera of GT4 for the newer games.
Stiff camera is such a weird choice, it's not immersive at all

my favourite games franchise are from GT2, GT4, GT Sport to GT7🔥.... and i can say the game display looks between GT Sport and GT7 are 99% same...👍
The graphical jump between 2 & 3 is still the biggest by far.
Uh, yeah. PlayStation and PlayStation2 is a sensible reason for that mate.
Lovely drive down memory lane!! Thanks, Rory...👌
i also started working around gt4 release, but having my job mean i was able to buy a ps2 and gt4 and whatever time i was not in school or work was spent on gt4

It is soo good, even now!
@@EERIEISSSS nothing but nostalgia in this one haha
Awesime work on this one mate...in all but this one 8s specual for an oldie like miself lol
Well done mate...good speach good edit8ng...top noch
I never liked GT1. I Played rally and F1.
My mates got GT2 and told me to try again...
I became hooked!
Love your story man, inspires me alot
Fantastic video! Keep up the great work
Really nice video! Instant like 👍🏻
Just bought 7. Last one i played was 3. The evolution is insane
These games on Ps1 and 2 were amazing.
OG Gran Turismo 2. My favorite GT game with GT6 and GT4
You're a legend Rory.
A great legacy video Rory, very enjoyable to reminisce.
Wow Rory, you've done it again. Bravo amazing videos
Nice video indeed, but 100% not right to display 4:3 signals as stretched 16:9. This is disrespect to those old games, developers and artists.

lets go another upload! 🎉🎉
U R a brave family man. Just keep it up mate.
All the sucess in the world for following your dream
Why did the GT6 sell so little? Maybe it was because it was launched near the end of the generation?
Correct yeah
Gt5 and 6 marked the start of GT academy if i am not mistaken
So many memories coming back 👌🧊
