is it me or has that got the wrong front end, '04' would be one of the very last ones and should have the deep Alfa grille that drops into the bumper

I had an Alfa 145, 2 actually. First one was a 1996 R reg. The second was a 2000 W reg. And both had slightly sloppy gear changes, and the usual Alfa electrical gremlins. But they also had soul, and rewarded you if you treated them right.
I remember the W reg one, sometimes when changing gear, the entire gear stick would detach from the linkage, and I could actually lift the stick out, and it would be in my hand, in mid air. So needless to say, I traded it for a Saab 9-3, which was a far superior car in terms of build.
The Alfa Momo Leather interior was nice though, quality Leather, and supportive seats, but the car had a hard ride quality, not good on British roads made of swiss cheese.
And the thing about Alfa's from this period, that I know of, is that the body panels were made from galvanised steel, but the floor pans weren't. So in the worst cases, the floors used to rot out well before any blemishes appeared on the bodywork. Some becoming detached from the sills. So get underneath if you are thinking of buying one, and check the underside. Also, check the carpets for dampness, and the gear change for sloppiness. Electric windows often fail in Alfa's too, so check them. Take a knowlegeable friend too, for a second opinion, because there are a lot of sh*t piles out there. They are Italian volume models after all.

I had 146 TI, and never had any problem with the gearbox for 200 000 km. Interesting how different people have different views on the same thing.

@@BojanBojovic Well that is the thing with a lot of Italian cars, the inconsistent build quality. If everyone had the same problems, you could attribute those problems to design flaws. But because a lot of people experience DIFFERENT problems, it just goes to prove that the quality control is lacking, and the attitudes of production workers vary greatly.

@@hermanmunster3358 This is true. But I see the same people having the same problems with different cars, also when I look at how the majority drives and interact with their cars this is really expected. One could argue that the car should handle illiterate owners and I would agree, however I believe it is the two way street, not very realistic to expect the machine to work flawlessly without us doing our part, especially if we know it was crazy Italians who screwed all together. 😃
Not sure why but I never had a faulty power window switch in any of my 4 Alfas, no fault lights, never had electric problems, synchros were operational as well, engines good, no rust but that depends of the region mostly, the only problem I had is with the Valeo clutch replacement kit on 159, two of the kits slipped when the temperature dropped outside during winter, with one of them breaking completely 2000km from home. 😃
The third one was also Valeo but not purchased in Serbia, that one was good for a few years and it was sold with the car. So having different quality for parts sold in the different part of the planet is not a conspiracy theory after all. 😁

This show that one of the biggest Alfa problem is the technically illiterate owner. 😃

I'm a qualified motor mechanic, so I hardly think that the problems I experienced with my 145's were down to technical illiteracy. I did overcome most issues though, due to my knowledge and experience.

@@hermanmunster3358 Sure, it was a joke, nothing on your part. 🙂
More the pictures in my head of my friends and family and how their car ownership looks like. 🙆
(Driving with the nail in one of the tires for 3 months for example 😁)
