Great job peter and dawn I do belive that john Barnard the narrowboat painting god started off as a tight yorkshireman ! He then started drinking Black sheep ale and the rest is history ! Good luck with the job ahead x
@@simonwest7183 we try to get one video a week out. It’s surprising how long it takes to make a video with editing, uploading etc. And also doing the actual work needed to make the content. I usually aim for around a 20 minute video. But sometimes they are a bit shorter, sometimes longer - depends exactly how things go.
Peter and Dawn - Nice Job! I looks like a strimmer would come in handy with some of those random canal moorings. Thanks for speeding up the video during all the sanding, which seems to take forever when you are in the midst of it. Dawn, you are a Great help! Peter, you seemed to have inherited that handy Yorkshireman talent for tackling virtually any project that comes along, that and using UA-cam to research the project before diving in. I am guessing your boat is at least 25 years old from the number of coats of paint that are sanding off. I wish you both the best!
We 'think the boat was built originally in the 80's and its last major overall was almost 10 years ago, so the paintwork certainly has a few stories to tell. In reality that day we did around 8 hours work and I guess 6 hours of that was sanding, so I speeded up the bits we showed and missed out a LOT of it altogether. It wouldn't make for good viewing at all!
@@WingingItBoatingonaBudget Thanks Peter for the history on your boat, it looks to be in reasonably good condition in the video. Yes, your video length of sanding was just about right. Watching sanding is typically in the same category as watching paint dry.
Gosh guys, the money you’re both saving is amazing when I think how much we spent in the past. Mind you we did do the last boat ourselves which did the job. I can’t come to find you tomorrow ( I’m in Wigan and met you on the way to Liverpool) but if I can find you on Sunday I can maybe help with getting batteries charged or something. Don’t know how to contact you because of leaving my details on this chat 😕! It’s r dally great watching you. Happy days 🌟🌟 Joan
Seems the size of filler and hardener quantity is rather as exiting as being just as tight on the pocket, would it be best to buy the tins of said used in car/vehicle repair be even cheaper? and in bigger amounts too. 🖖👍
@@kazmorley5175 we haven’t used the expensive paint brush yet - we got it for when we do the top coats. But pretty much all the boat painters use that brush or a similar one. They reckon the best finish is only achieved with the best brush… so tight as I am, it’s one of the few things I’ve spent the money on! No point letting the hard work go to waste by scrimping on a brush at the final stage… 🤔
@@vadmal5210 we bought 2 packs of sanding sheets for the sander. So used what we had. As we now start to get to the finer finish we have bought / ordered a selection of different sanding sheets.
