Part of being apolitical comes with the notion of privilege to not have to be political. I’m gay. I sure as hell not only am not going to be voting for the people actively seeking political positions who say I am a terrible person for merely existing and as a result I am going to at least have a kneejerk reaction against the people who voted for such bigoted candidates. I’m going to try to understand but also IT’S FUCKING EXHAUSTING. If I had a nickel every time I had a conversation with someone who absolutely hates the LGBTQ community, I’d have quite a few dollars. Could I have had some kind of heart to heart with most of them? Probably. But I also have my own life to live and I’m not gonna spend every hour of my day trying to stop homophobes from being homophobic, especially when (say it with me kids!) it’s kind of a privilege to not have to have a heart to heart with a bunch of people so you can live a life free of bigotry. Basically, if someone says they voted for Trump, I just give them an ask why and then if I don’t like their answer I’m on my way. “I dunno, seemed fine. Didn’t really like Biden/Hillary” is a perfectly fine answer. Same with “my family said they were gonna so I just figured I would too.” MegaCapitalG said “I believe the economy comes before human rights” and I’m like “no”. Why? Because why is it a goddamn choice to begin with? It’s patently absurd because the notion of better human rights isn’t incompatible with a better economy and it’s bizarre to tolerate that especially when it isn’t like the left hates the economy. Also it comes with a massive lol because both the last couple republicans left office with a recession they sure as hell didn’t start with. They’re not even better for the economy. tl;dr: People saying Trump voters are bad aren’t evil. They just got hurt by too many of them. And also it’s weird how it’s a popular notion that the right is better for the economy
I think something that's important to remember in these kind of things is that everyone has had a different experience in life. There will be a lot of people that voted for Trump because they wanted the wall because they are racist, but there will probably als be a lot of people that voted for Trump because they have had to deal with a lot of Mexican gang crimes ie. And you can say "well that's racist to think all Mexicans would be like that" but it's the same philosophy as that the left has, the experience with Trump supporters were bad so therefore they only get a small chance cause it's tiring to deal with finding out whether it's a rascist Trump supporter or not. People's experience in life has a giant effect on them and their views and while it's not our job to have to listen to everyone's story and try to understand everyone, it's also not our job to judge anyone for it either. P.s none of this was directed to you in particular, your comment just made me think of this.
@@richarddrost5737 There is a big difference between making assumptions about people because of their ethnicity (being Mexican) and making assumptions based on the choices they've made (voting Trump).
You have no idea how happy I got to see this uploaded to the clips channel. The stuff MBT says in this video is actually so good that I ended up using it for a Final in one of my classes. Now I can official have a works cited for MBT on my final
Its funny how as an outsider I always consider USA as "the land of endless possibilities", except when it comes to politics, then you only have 2 choices, and I don't get it. In the the supermarket you have like 30 kinds of cereals, but when it comes to the most impactful part of your life you only have 2 choices?
It's incredible how the US sold itself as "the land of the free" where the American Dream™ will turn impoverished families from other countries into well-off and wealthy ones, and in turn basically drafted a bunch of people to work in their businesses and factories to make the rich even more rich and those families just slighty better off than their previous state.
I mean there are third parties... but they won't win so voting for them is throwing your vote away and fundamentally casting a vote for whoever wins preemptively. And in many states one of those to actual choices doesn't even matter because the winner of the Electoral College is a far gone conclusion because our democracy was designed to reduce the power of the popular vote. It took a surprisingly long time, but the flaws in the system have come home to roost.
My wife’s grandfather survived Auschwitz, and my Great Grandmother was a Polish Jew who came here in the 1920’s… But this time around we’ll be introducing side sets, a new banning system, and plenty of other fun surprises that you’ll just have to watch to find out. If you want 5% off…
An issue I've encountered a little too frequently when interacting with fellow left leaning people is the parroting of the belief in restorative and rehabilatory justice on one hand and the absolute refusal to acknowledge it as something that can be applied to the other side. Which leads to these situations more often than not. Also tweeting and making youtube videos is not valid political action :)
@@Cybertech134 let's not pretend the right, especially but not exclusively Christian protestants, also don't have this issue. Preaching empathy while actively ignoring when the types they're "empathetic" towards are explaining why something is harmful. Unironically empathy for me but not for thee is a both sides issue.
@@Cybertech134 I was speaking more on preaching empathy and not actually practicing it. Love the sinner and all that. It's literally doctrine. Also churches still practice a the whole act of them being politically repressed while still being a majority voting block, it was still political suicide to be an atheist less than 8 years ago. I'm sure you've heard the argument of "gay people make us religious type uncomfortable therefore what about our feelings?" Churches with a disdain for the poor being especially prevalent in these cases, and while arguably un-christian, are still in line with and voting with the majority protestant block. I do agree that their voices about that are lessened, but I think that has more to do with the cultural shift left rather than a lack of trying. When the culture shifts right again those voices will become louder.
Continually stunning how much a role imagining things, especially the thought processes of large, non-homogeneous groups, has in everyone's process nowadays.
4:23 No, that's how _these_ algorithms work. Why do they treat political information, general education, propaganda, just the same as entertainment? When it comes to that, what you like to hear or see is not the thing by which to go since reality - albeit not necessarily clear as day - doesn't bend to your individual preferences: things may be (very) different ways at different times, places, or under any particular circumstances but your attitude towards the things generally doesn't affect what is (and where it does it's only one such circumstance out of many).
Fiction surpassed Reality. If you look at any extreme on each side you will find delusion, that is why you should judge each sides not by their extremes, but instead by how much they tolerate their own extreme. By how much they are willing to look away 🙈 "see no evil" at themselves as a whole. Politicians are part of society, if they are not willing to give issues a genuine look and self-reflect, how are they supposed to come up with real solutions.
While I get that leftoids and rightoids exist I still don't think that applies to IRL circles. Trump voters aren't 'Evil' but there is a certain point where you either own up to your parties nonsense or you're a part of a problem.
i remember seeing this thread while I was feeling pretty twitter pilled about the issue myself, thinking a lot like the people MBT was responding to, but seeing his thread really pulled me back to reality and made me think about how quickly we can get sucked into those toxic tribalist vortexes. It's good to have some even headed members of the community.
I have to say, I was very impressed by this response. The level of political nuance here is way beyond what you usually see online, and not something I would have expected from a YGO tuber. Not only that but you managed to respond to Twitter hysteria without rising to that level of hysteria. Respect.
One of hardlegs tweets was funny to me as it mentioned people being upset with Trif and how he had a responsibility to be informed with his 75 k subscribers. Seemingly ignoring Trif is a Torontonian if he should gain more political awareness municipal provincial and Canadian federal should be prioritized before American. The fact our premier wants to privatize healthcare and the leader of the opposition won’t denounce people who wanted to hang the prime minister until months later when they threatened PP’s wife should be prioritized.
The problem is trying to find middle ground with people that would gladly watch a million climate refugees die. Trying to team up to fight climate change is also a beautiful ideal until you realise that the other side not only do not believe in it, they are actively trying to make decisions that move us in the opposite directions of solving it
I am so happy that you've brought this up. I had the same conversation with myself after this Twitter saga, and I hope that you were able to reach people on this issue
this is a very interesting talking point I'm not totally in agreement with all that MBT said but I do find his position understandable as someone who lives in a very rural, conservative community, and is trans, that not all Conservative voters are bad people inherently. I think a more important aspect to me and something I've learned in my mid 20s is the self care/mental health aspect of this. A lot of people with this extreme reaction to having to share a locals or a YCS with a Conservative tend to be younger or people who have not learned how to pick and choose their battles. If I got upset and moved to bar every Conservative from everywhere I went or barred myself from sharing the same spaces... I would not be able to live. It's just a needless drain on your mental health and lifestyle that unless your life is 100% in immediate risk, is just not worth it.
If you ever feel apathetic about politics, remember this: The Russians outsourced politics to a single man, Vladimir Putin, and look how good it worked for them.
@@alonsoarana5307 Fr Putin just played the system, he was president for 8 years(2 terms) had to legally sit out 2 terms to become president again, so he installed a sock puppet president for those two terms and then got himself to power again. And in 16+ years you can get a lot of stuff done in terms of securing and strengthening your position

At the expense of making some kind of "bussy" related comment, I have to say, thank you for putting into words the exact way I feel about modern American voting / voters. Local elections are in a week or two here, and it's getting really evident how much political atomization has reached a fever pitch. My dad tells me not to vote for "those crazy trumpheads", and while I probably won't vote in that direction (and he's probably being a bit facetious), it's kinda sad the way we talk about our peers in this country instead of giving every (reasonable) person a seat at the table.
The YT comment section tend to be in the agreement that MBT is correct. The people in twitch chat however.... there were an alarming amount of people who were like "no your wrong you're white you would have no idea" and of course the "yeah but Republicans/ Trump voters/ Trump supporters ARE actually all bad no matter what" and it was very hard to watch because the entire point just went over their heads.
Hardleg's take on this was so insanely based. Not because it was more nuanced, but because it was less nuanced. It gave zero wiggle room for bad actors, and pointed towards a true praxis rather than a negative peace. MBT is a lib, but that's ok I can still enjoy the content of people I disagree with.
the problem with your comment is that your joke about fascist collaborators was too layered. we're yugioh players, not magic the gathering players. we don't have a comprehensive rulebook to look at to tell us what layers are and how they work
We do need to learn to have the time and mental capacity to look at things with nuance. The internet has made everything so incredibly instant that decisions are also instant. Time for reflection and understanding have been shunned out to fill the need to produce more and consume more. You can educate people out of ignorance, not only as a cure but as prevention. Even bigotry can be removed with education and understanding. Just talk to people. Talk to everyone. From all over. Travel and see how not america exactly does things.
Yea sorry, im not gonna try to convince the people that want me dead to stop shooting. I'll shoot back, and I'll shoot first. Time for talking is over.
It's for this kind of takes that MBT stands for "Most Based Takes." This is the kind of talk we need to have from time to time but we have waited for big turmoils like the latest ones to happen, unfortunately. Myself included, don't misunderstand me.
Based take. I go through this line of thought on a near daily-basis. I hear people who claim to believe in equality and solidarity pull the trigger on designating people as out-groups so quickly, and I cannot reconcile the contradiction. My alignment with leftist policies/platforms is because I find them an extension of my beliefs in kindness and equal treatment for all. It has to be consistent, and we win by changing minds. Not shutting them out.
So, first off, agreed. As a now longtime viewer, and as a non-gender specific person who is predominantly Democrat in belief. I don't care that you voted trump and everything you said is, in my opinion, true. Voting in America sucks because the candidates are awful. Voter's often vote based on peer pressure or a certain upbringing as well, even if you COULD vote otherwise regardless, who's to tell someone raised a certain way that what they were raised to believe is wrong until they experience it themselves. I used to be fairly moderate until after college myself having been raised by extremely right wing people myself. Not to mention, as mentioned, the extremists on both sides aren't indicative of the entirety of either side and to think you have to 100% agree with everything a candidate says to vote with them is just kinda dumb. Being who I am, I've really only met a few people within the yugioh community who are less than nice. Most of them just try and slide in my DM's, annoying but flattering tbh lol The yugioh community, despite how unbelievably toxic it can be is diverse and pretty tolerant? From my experience anyways. And a big part of that I feel, is the creator's who unite us in a way. I don't care who they voted for, as long as they're not Homophobic, Racist, Sexist or Child Predator's tbh. Again most of the problem with this is the fact that voting in America is fucking trash, its like the government wants you to think you have a say in things when in reality, you don't. OH, wait.
I do like this video mostly just because it helped me to get the f*** out of the annoying circle jerk of online leftism. It also helped me realize that while I do not consider myself to be a good person, I do generally care about the well-being of other people and believe that they should have basic rights no matter what they believe. Begrudgingly
Idk if anybody cares but I wasn't old enough to vote when Trump was elected but I probably wouldn't have gone the other way tbh. I am middle eastern and the past that Hilary has with my home and the future she might bring was too much for me to see her as any better than Trump. So I'm glad the MBT is open-minded enough to acknowledge that maybe not everyone who voted for Trump wanted homosexuals to die.
Its sad in America its 100 or 0 in politics when it should just be for what policy you want put in and for some its a difference between you dont like the person and you dont like the policy the point of voting is so policy you want gets put into action so you will vote that way (also note when I say policy I dont mean anything race or lgbt related human rights should not be politically divided but for some reason are I hope even if it takes a 100 years these things are no longer debated for politics to be well politics )

Its funny how as an outsider I always consider USA as "the land of endless possibilities", except when it comes to politics, then you only have 2 choices, and I don't get it. In the the supermarket you have like 30 kinds of cereals, but when it comes to the most impactful part of your life you only have 2 choices?
You don’t have exactly 2 choices, they tend to more options, but they aren’t as big and agreed upon as the 2 main parties that most people vote for
It's incredible how the US sold itself as "the land of the free" where the American Dream™ will turn impoverished families from other countries into well-off and wealthy ones, and in turn basically drafted a bunch of people to work in their businesses and factories to make the rich even more rich and those families just slighty better off than their previous state.
we actually have zero choices!
Do you go to a football game and ask why are there only 2 teams playing, I thought this was the land of endless possibilities?

An issue I've encountered a little too frequently when interacting with fellow left leaning people is the parroting of the belief in restorative and rehabilatory justice on one hand and the absolute refusal to acknowledge it as something that can be applied to the other side. Which leads to these situations more often than not.
Also tweeting and making youtube videos is not valid political action :)
@@Cybertech134 let's not pretend the right, especially but not exclusively Christian protestants, also don't have this issue. Preaching empathy while actively ignoring when the types they're "empathetic" towards are explaining why something is harmful.

Not only that but you managed to respond to Twitter hysteria without rising to that level of hysteria. Respect.

Exact same thing, less sass. People just want performative words over meaning.
One of hardlegs tweets was funny to me as it mentioned people being upset with Trif and how he had a responsibility to be informed with his 75 k subscribers. this is a very interesting talking point
I'm not totally in agreement with all that MBT said but I do find his position understandable as someone who lives in a very rural, conservative community, and is trans, that not all Conservative voters are bad people inherently.

Well, we're not the most polarized of all time. There haven't been bombings of worker strikes by pro corporate interests this century, so far.
American's political system is becoming like my country. We vote people out instead of voting for people that would help us.

Look into 10 reasons why you should delete your social media by Jaron Lanier. He has an inside scoop on what the algorithms do
So, first off, agreed.
OH, wait.
Oh shit! Another old bay enjoyer
my man is namedropping Contra on stream lol I knew I liked this guy.
Hats off to you. We need more people who think like you do!
