    This was a good video! I also find it fascinating that Joseph Smith just carried on right where he left off without first seeing where he left off. I love writing and I can say that sounds completely impossible, especially for something so complex as The Book of Mormon.

    Even with all this evidence it’s still not enough to convince people or get them to care. It can only be through the Holy Spirit that we are convinced of it’s divine origin

      There is no evidence to convince people. The Book of Mormon is full of errors, no archaeological findings to support it. DNA findings showed it is false. It was a combination of 3 plagiarized books. Joseph Smith who wrote it had numerous false prophecies. I read the entire book of Mormon in 2002 and it is not a product of the Holy Spirit.

    Every time I read the Book of Mormon along with the King James Bible, I am baffled at just how complex it is and Im ever learning new things. Took me 10x longer to read Alma this time, just to try and chart out the cities and battles and story line. No way an unlearned man could compose this out of order and in such a short time ...not to mention the witnesses who fell away but still stayed firm in their testimonies.

    Glad you brought up the fact that it was dictated (not written) in around 65 working days. That’s one of the craziest parts to me. Joseph also apparently never asked for recaps from his scribes after taking long breaks, and would start back up at the very word that was next in the translation.

      That's something that I've come to learn personally. It doesn't matter all the evidential support it has, the Holy Ghost is the only one that does the convincing in the end. People are surprisingly hard-hearted or receptive to the Holy Ghost and needing little premise.

    Its very worth noting the book of mormon was written in 6 weeks. In alma 43 it talks about how Moroni equipped his army with defensive, padded armor. While it seems that metal would be a more effective means of armor its actually been proven recently that padded armor is actually quite effective at stopping swords. However I doubt Joseph was an expert in medieval style combat.

    This video doesn't teach me that the Book of Mormon is true. I prayed and received a testimony and firm belief that it is true from reading, pondering, and praying if it was truly the word of God. I received an answer through the Holy Ghost that this Book is from God. This video helps show some solid points and things to consider. But if you REALLY want to know. Ask God. He will answer you if you take the time to try Him. Thanks for this video and bringing those points up!

    With the New Testament of the Bible, we have many thousand copies of the original text in the original language so we may translate the word of God into many languages. Do we have access to the original text of the book of Mormon, or even a copy of the original untranslated text?

  • @jdmkun
    @jdmkun 8 місяців тому +12

    It is said that Joseph Smith plagiarized from the Bible. Yes, there are quite a few verses that you could say come from the Bible, but I find it fascinating that the verses taken from Isaiah talk about the mission of Christ, the Restoration, and the end times. When you realize the Book of Mormon was written for us in our day and that it is a second witness of Christ, it all makes sense why those verses are in there. It is another complexity to the book because Joseph would have had to tie all those scriptures into a complex narrative. Above all, a confirmation from the Holy Spirit is the way to truly know the authenticity of the Book of Mormon. At the end of the day, we all have to live by Faith, but as Alma 32 teaches, you can know by the fruits that the book is of God.

    • @musketeerflyer
      @musketeerflyer 8 місяців тому +4

      Not just plagiarized the Bible, but plagiarized the 1769 King James Version of the Bible, of which JS owned a copy. How do we know it was the 1769 version? Because that version contained errors and those errors were copied word for word into the Book of Mormon by JS. So much for being inspired by The Holy Spirit.

    • @jdmkun
      @jdmkun 8 місяців тому +4

      @musketeerflyer Christ, Paul, and others shared from the scriptures in their writings. I have no issue with what is included in the Book of Mormon. You miss the point of my comment that to be able to intertwine scriptures into an already very complex narrative is impressive. I have read the Book of Mormon as well as the Old and New Testaments dozens of times, and I have prayed for a witness and received that witness as described in Moroni 10. The Book of Mormon isn't on trial, we are on trial.

No Jewish traditions like Passover? No turkeys or cocoa beans (but sure, barley was around)? And that's just scratching the surface.

      Actually if witnesses are important to you, you should be a Strangite. In every way their witnesses were better. They weren't all related, they actually signed their witness statement, they went to dig up their plates and confirmed the ground wasn't messed with before hand, and they all saw the plates with their physical eyes. Your witnesses only saw it in their imaginations.
      Also if witnesses meant everything was true, then you need to definitely believe in Big Foot/Yeti/Aliens/Ghosts etc.
      Anecdotes and testimonials are what you are stuck with when there is no evidence to support your position. If you had ANY evidence you wouldn't be resorting to something so unreliable. Only a truly gullible person would believe something supernatural was true, just because someone said so.

    Accepting the Book of Mormon for what it claims to be, I appreciate the hard work that Mormon had to go through: compiling all the sources from a thousand years of history (in the process no doubt having to deal with language change), writing a sacred history based on those sources in a coherent way. When I think of the nostalgia and longing that must have pierced his soul as he chronicled his people's bygone golden age hundreds of years before, his choices of words and his perspective (like his fixation on the salvation of the souls of all those who died in battle) make more sense; it makes the whole thing much more meaningful and poignant.

    • @blusheep2
      @blusheep2 8 місяців тому

      @@kseismoloj But if you say that you did a sincere study of the BoM and felt the Spirit testify, then you didn't do a sincere study at all. You chose to follow your emotions. That is the point of what I was trying to say. Someone really smart once said, "we don't hold to our beliefs because of evidence. We hold to them because of desire." If you went into the BoM hoping to find its truth then that is likely what you will find because its what you want to find.
      To prove this point, everybody in every religion feel like the truth of their religion is confirmed by the peace they feel about it. People don't believe things that they don't feel good about. So, I'm not saying you shouldn't feel peace about your beliefs but saying you did a sincere study but offered up your reason for belief as an emotional feeling of some kind of confirmation just means you didn't do a sincere study at all.

    2,419+ instances of the doctrine of Jesus Christ, including each principle of (faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, keeping the commandments (baptism), and the Holy Ghost (confirmation).
    and so much more.
    The spiritual complexity of the Book of Mormon is far greater than the secular complexity, though the latter is still impressive.

      Because the Lord has not seen fit to reveal the exact locations of the Book of Mormon places, so the leaders cannot say definitively where any of the named locations in the Book of Mormon correspond to in the present day. Aside from Jerusalem of course.

      As opposed to the Old and New Testament that have hundreds of locations that we know exactly where they are today… Hebron, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Capernaum, Mount Nebo, Corinth, Dead Sea, Jordan river, Sea of Galilee, Mediterranean, Rome, Athens, Ephesus, Cypress, Patmos, Lesbos, Thessalonica, Berea… Well, you get the picture. No comparison. Is it not possible Joseph Smith made up the whole thing like JR Tolkien or CS Lewis in Narnia? They were gifted writers, telling complex stories with characters and name places. Seems like a much more plausible answer to me.

    The argument being made here is that if the BOM shows marks of complexity, then it is inspired of God. This does not necessarily follow because there are many books that are complex, but they are not inspired of God. I am actually in agreement that the Book of Mormon is complex in some ways (having read through it several times). The assumption is made that Smith, an uneducated man, did not make this. And I am in agreement with that assumption that Smiith is not solely responsible, but actually the BOM is based on Manuscript Found by Solomon Spalding (which is no longer extant), but we do have his first manuscript - Manuscript Story - to compare the BOM. It is interesting she mentioned lots of invented character names which is also what Manuscript Story does which has also some root names that will be used to make up other names. The reason it is complex is because Spalding spent several years (probably from the Spring of 1812 to sometime in 1816). That is four years, my friends. But you also have the transformation of it along the way by Sidney Rigdon from 1816 to 1829, especially in regards to the loss of the 116 pages in June of 1828 in adding the theological/religious parts to the BOM. You still have to account for why so many changes to the BOM after the 1830 edition. There is much more to say, but soon I will be releasing a new set of videos updated. You can go ahead and watch the former series now, but I wanted to add more research and information discovered - “Where Did The Book of Mormon Come From?” (Revised Series) on my UA-cam channel. I just desire for people to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Tim. 2:4)..

If the BoM or the Quran or whatever, claims to be a new revelation then it must be tested by those two books of revelation that came before, or it needs to call itself a new religion altogether.

      The locations in the Book of Mormon have not been revealed, and so are simply a matter of speculation. Some have made compelling arguments that most of what was written took place in and around modern day Guatemala (See the Sorenson model), but it is still just speculation. The Book of Mormon mentions that their buildings were mostly made out of wood, and if so, they would not have survived to the present day. If you find a pottery fragement in some archaeological dig, you have no way of knowing whether it was Nephite pottery or Lamanite pottery. The names would not have survived to the present day, because we have absolutely no way of knowing how the languages of that time period were pronounced. The written language we see today from that era on stone inscriptions was a logographic language, which does not convey information on pronunciation.
      As far as Old World locations, there are several evidences which can be visited today. For example the Valley of Lemuel/River of Laman mentioned during Lehi's travels in the wilderness corresponds very well to the modern day location of Wadi Tayyib al-Ism. Another location is Nahom, a site mentioned in the Book of Mormon in the Arabian peninsula. The location where it is mentioned in the Book of Mormon corresponds to an altar dated to around 600 BC (the time of Lehi's travels) that was found in recent years that has the inscription "Nhm", which could very well refer to the Nahom mentioned in the Book of Mormon.
      However, it is not necessary to know exactly where the events of the Book of Mormon took place in order to have a testimony that it is true.

    Which book is more important? Book of Morman or the Bible?
    Most LDS members will say the BOM because they add this clause to the Bible “so long as it is translated correctly.”
    For the Bible we had original manuscripts and documents texts dating back to the time of the Apostles which is what the KJV of the Bible is written from in the 1600’s which the LDS church still uses. The KJV is a word for word translation of the Bible with old English vernacular. In the 1946-1956 a little boy discovered over 6000+ manuscripts and documents of the original Bible text pristinely preserved in clay pots in a cave (known as the Dead Sea Scrolls). There where many duplicate versions of texts. When translated this gave us modern word for word translation like ESV, NASB, NKJV which when read next to the old KJV you will find they are fairly similar to the old KJV except in modern English. And you can even go and see the original Hebrew (Old Testament) and Greek (New Testament) with many good resources online.
    With millions of copies of the Bible sold in many languages worldwide we have the most accurate and most reliable book to ever exist, which would be impossible for someone to change something in the Bible. The Bible is the Word of God.
    In the Bible we have the original genealogy of man all the way to Jesus proving to us that he fulfilled prophecy. From Adam to King David to Jesus. Then the Bible has the birth of Jesus which fulfills Old Testament prophecy. The the Bible has Jesus’s entire ministry while he was alive. Again fulfilling Old Testament prophecy. Then the Bible has his crucifixion his death and his resurrection which fulfills Old Testament prophecy. Then the Bible also has the Acts of the Apostles which shows us how the church is to function. Then all the Epistles show the church how to be Christians. All of that is in the Bible.
    Without the Bible we would not know who Jesus is and what prophecy he fulfilled.
    And LDS members will say but the BOM is “Another Testimony of Jesus.” To that I ask why does Jesus need a second testimony?
    John 8 : 18 - I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
    And what about the BOM being another testimony of Jesus?
    Galatians 1 : 8 - But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
    Galatians 1 : 9 - As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
    And what about the Apostacy?
    2 Thessalonians 2 : 7 - For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
    2 Thessalonians 2 : 8 - And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
    The moment the Holy Spirit is removed from the earth the AntiChrist will show up and Tribulation would start. The Holy Spirit that is inside of believers is what restrains the AntiChrist spirit from coming into the earth. The moment the Holy Spirit is removed from Earth (rapture) that would trigger the appearance of the AntiChrist and begin Tribulation. Neither has happen so that means that the Holy Spirit was never removed from the earth.
    Please read the Bible. Especially the New Testament and the Epistles which go over these things.
    Ask yourself this: What benefit is it to God to make the Bible of lesser importance than another book? Now what benefit is it to the devil to make the Bible of less importance than another book?
    Can you read any of the original manuscripts of the BOM today?
    So why “so long as it is translated correctly” about the Bible. If the Bible is not translated correctly from many original transcripts then how is the BOM translated correctly which has no original transcripts?
    If the Bible isn’t translated correctly why doesn’t the LDS church use the original Dead Sea scrolls to make their own correct translation of the Bible? Or is it easier to dismiss the Bible as lesser importance than the BOM? Yet without the Bible we wouldn’t know the prophecy that Jesus fulfilled with his birth, his death, and his resurrection.
    So how do we get to heaven? Do I need to become LDS or Catholic or Baptist or Pentecostal or Jewish or neither?
    Let’s see what Jesus said. The one person who never lies.
    John 14 : 6 - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
    No matter what church you are a member of you must know Jesus intimately. You can be a member of the LDS church or the Catholic Church or Baptist or Pentecostal or Methodist or Lutheran and Not know Jesus.
    Matthew 25 the 10 bridesmaids. All 10 knew who Jesus was but only 5 were wise and had their lamps (earthen vessels) full of the oil which is the Holy Spirit.
    Acts 2 : 4 - And they were all FILLED with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
    Mark 16 : 17 - And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
    Mark 16 : 18 - They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

      I see several lies you have portrayed that I will disprove (I doubt you will agree since you are spiritually blinded by your hatred).
      First lie: We do not have the original manuscripts from the bible, in fact, the oldest manuscripts we have is from the 2nd century A.D.The Dead Sea Scrolls are even younger at a 4th Century A.D. age. The Dead Sea Scrolls have not been pristinely preserved, they are fragile because of having oxygen in the containers. If you actually looked at the Dead Sea Scrolls they look ancient.
      About the Apostasy: Old Testament prophets predicted an apostasy (see Isaiah 24:5-6; Amos 8:11-12).
      New Testament prophets warned that mankind would turn away from the gospel (see Acts 20:29-30; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4; 2 Timothy 4:3-4; 2 Peter 2:1-3).
      Early Apostles warned of growing apostasy within the Church (see Galatians 1:6-8; 2 Peter 2:1-3; 1 Corinthians 1:10-12; 11:18-19; 2 Timothy 1:15; Revelation 3:14-16).
      The Apostasy is very real according to the authors of The Bible.
      You are all over the place, with no apparent thought or concise wording.
      It is true that Salvation only comes through Jesus Christ and is a free gift from him, but who do you trust for the correct teachings? Can you gain Salvation from someone who isn't authorized to speak for God or has no authority from God? No, these are dead works (Hebrews 6:1, Moroni 8:23, D&C 22:3). Salvation from Jesus Christ only can be achieved through his authorized voices on earth, and according to Amos 3:7, his servants have and are and always will be Prophets.

    This is not a proof...several times the Bible says nothing will be added and even if an angel comes to give revelation, don't believe it. Complex does not prove truth.

      If you read carefully that angel is talking specifically about the book of revelation. The Bible is a collection of books. No one should add to the book of revelation which the BOM does not do

    First of all, I don’t understand why you haven’t responded to my questions unless you know I’m right.
    Second of all, at the end of your video, you state” The first draft is a final draft of the Book of Mormon”. That is a lie! The Book of Mormon has been edited appropriately 4,000 times from 1830-1964 and beyond! This is your video, defend it.

      There are many minor edits which have been made since the Book of Mormon was first published, mostly grammar and punctuation. All the arguments relating to the complexity of the Book of Mormon are equally valid whether applied to the first edition or to subsequent editions when minor changes were made to clean up some of the spelling errors and whatnot.

    This is cool video but I don’t believe the Book of Mormon took place in South America. I believe the whole Book of Mormon took place in North America. The United States and a small portion of Canada.

      We never make claims regarding the geographical location of the Book of Mormon. We do highlight potential archeological and geographical discoveries around the world that have relevance to showing evidences of the Book of Mormon in the New World.

    “For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased”- and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.”

    So I suppose since Harry Potter is so complex that proves it’s also authentic and true?

    To a writer who outlines their work, these things aren’t all that miraculous. There are over 2,000 named characters in the game of thrones books, a money system, different religions, a magic (priesthood) system, and different distinct writing styles from different viewpoint characters…and George RR Martin isn’t even an outline writer. That doesn’t mean it’s real, and it doesn’t make the Book of Mormon real either.
    It’s either real, or it isn’t…and you aren’t going to come to that conclusion with “proof”, you’ll come to that conclusion spiritually or not at all.

      We aren’t claiming that because a book is complex it must be true. However, given the book of Mormon’s complexity, one simply cannot attribute its authorship to J.S. A quick glance at any other of J.S. writings during the time the BOM was translated immediately debunks the theory of his authorship. You also have 15+ witnesses who saw him translate. It doesn’t mean it’s a slam dunk case that it’s true, it just means that given its complexity, the theory of its origin has to be more than JS made it up. You have to account for the damn book. All of the third party authorship theories have also been debunked over time. They also all deny the testimony of the 15+ formal and informal witnesses. Then you’ve got tens of millions claiming it has changed their lives for the better. Its origin isn’t as simple as you may think. But it takes a little digging and searching to understand.

      @@benjaminmckay8567 I think you are mistaking my criticism of this approach with criticism of Joseph or the Book of Mormon.
      I’m saying that none of it contributes to proving or suggesting it’s true. There are lots of books that change lives for the better doesn’t mean it’s scripture. And all these ancillary things likes names, places, poetry, etc are interesting and are worth looking at from a study perspective. I’m saying that there are lots of books that share those things and they are not scripture. As interesting as those things are and how much they contribute to a study of the Book of Mormon, it’s not going to change someone’s mind or give them a testimony. It’s a spiritual book and the testimony will only come through spiritual means.
      Did the 15 witnesses sit down and hear about how there’s x number of names and writing styles and go…you know what that proves it! …no it was a spiritual witness and spiritual conversion for every single one of them. I have a testimony of the Book of Mormon, and it didn’t come through tidbits and factoids.

    Yea! Just a copy of “ View-of the Hebrew” same language tone, because that book was a copy of King Jame language tone. “View of the Hebrew” is a book made to create Moral and values on UK. Plagiarism is not okay, this is just one of many evidences of JS master manipulation.

      @@WyoCutlass71 I have read it twice and it is painful to read. VERY PAINFUL. Having said that, JS would have had access to that book and many others that indeed are echoed in the BoM. One of the tropes is that the Church tries to make JS so uneducated that at times I feel he is painted as a blabbering moron which we was not. The truth is the Smith's took education seriously and JS did read and was read to in his youth.
      JS was an avid story teller as his mother said, and he was telling stories about the inhabitants of the America's well before he wrote the BoM. This points to the View of the Hebrews that attempts explains the origins of the Native Americans, and that JS had an understanding of that books narrative. It is very very very possible for a person to build a story into their mind and then play it out on paper with the assistance of other sources especially when you have a lot of time to play it. Especially when you have a lot of time to be imaginative, and JS has a lot of time on his hands to be imaginative as boredom during that period of time was very prevalent.
