    I had a TCR 1 back in 2006 and I was cycling average 500k/week until 2009. I never had a single issue with the bike and I remember the comfortable ride and the responsiveness it had. For various reasons life took me in different paths and I hadn’t cycle ever since. Yesterday I bought this exact bike after test driving several other bikes the last few weeks. I couldn’t be happier! I am so pumped to be back into the wonderful cycling community!
    Thank you for your reviews and safe miles to everyone!

    Thanks David 🙏. I feel confident in picking up a TCR as my 1st road bike based on your reviews & comparisons. Appreciate the honesty and comprehensive overviews (over your series of tcr videos). You addressed all my questions about the bike including: comfort, bottom bracket creeks, ideal tire width, even free-hub noise. It might not be the perfect bike but seems to be the best value and best features-to-downsides ratio for me. Thanks again! (Also, your videography is excellent! Keep up the great work!!)

    You present your information very well in an honest way , without all the waffle you see in a lot of other bike reviews. Kudos to you for that David. Weirdly I was looking at the frameset you appear to have bought and had built up in your other video , wondering I I would be able to build up my first bike myself , as that frame colourway is awesome !! . I was looking for some videos on tcr builds when I came across yours and the link to this long term review . Keep the reviews coming

    Thanks for the well rounded review, even going so far as to “spec”ulate the bang for buck pros/cons against its peers. Having never looked at Giant before, not closely anyway, I was researching the next level up, with electronic shifting. Tarmac was the starting point, and it ranked favorably against all others...until I looked at Giant. I am choosing the mechanical version, first based on spec/price point, but also because of this review. I looked at other reviews on the same bike, and they supported your position. So, thank you, you just saved me some $$$😊👏🏼

      @@Dee-Ell my Defy is a 2016 Advanced model, so not the latest of Giant's 'endurance' tech. But I'd say comfort is in the same ball park, with a bit more road feel, which on a bike as reactive and as fast as it is, is something you want. I've only had it for 2 months and have cycled a few long'ish runs on it, the longest being over 80 miles, and would happily cycle more.

      If you check out CyclingTips, they've reviewed the Emonda, Ultimate, and TCR (so far in their group test). Must admit the TCR did not fare well in their testing, with, longer reach, limited tyre choice, flex in the frame, sluggishness. and a speed wobble being encountered by both testers. However, and I think it is a big however particularly for this bike, they changed the wheel set to accommodate their test GP5000 tyres. And one of the reasons I bought this bike, was the wheels are an integral part of the package, and given their performance I will never have to shell out money to upgrade.

  • @Lemond75
    @Lemond75 3 роки тому +13

    Having just taken delivery of the same bike, and being out for my first ride on it today, I can only agree with your review. The bike is really smooth, the power transfer is very good indeed, and it feels fast (although to be fair, it’s the first bike I’ve had in years with deep section carbon wheels, and disc brakes for that matter). Whilst all my other bikes have Campag, I have to say that I’m very impressed with Ultegra. As other people have commented, the colour is a little muted, and I do prefer the paint schemes on some of the Emondas, but I didn’t see the point in getting a Trek which was significantly heavier, and arguably less well specced for the price.
    Keep up the good work on the channel, and thanks for helping me make my decision re this bike.

    thx David your reviews of the new TCR have really helped me - I was considering this and the Canyon Aeroad cf SL 8 that you also reviewed - both reasonably available as we start coming out of the supply chain crisis. I have gone with/ordered the 2022 TCR adv pro 0 di2 which seems like best value/new tech. Aeroad very good looking and fast but I think the TCR is a better all rounder and can cope with light gravel. Good to get the latest Ultegra electronic 12 speed and standard tubeless setup. For those looking Giant USa website seems to get new stock in periodically - just keep looking. Canyon USa seem to be getting stock now as well.

      This is classified as regular internal routing as some of its shift and brake lines still enter the frameset at some point.
      External routing only applies to 20th-century road bikes (and some 21st-century road bikes, more commonly on those made out of a metal) where you can see the entire shift and brake lines outside the frameset.
      Consider yourself fortunate to have a bike with a headset that's convenient to work on, servicing it can be done in less than an hour and an LBS wouldn't charge you as much since it's easier for them.

The design of the internals in the hubs is incredible at this price. The power meter has been excellent. Let's hope it's a sign of things to come . Power meteres sub £3k? Enter Covid 19. Have been riding mine for about 2000 kms on the whole very positive but two key issues 1. The hookless rims great until you get a flat then they are near impossible to get an inner tube into without a pinch flat.

    Thanks David, your review and many others made me opt for this (yes, I managed to get one!) The fact it's quick does not surprise anybody, however I'm amazed with how comfy it is. I did a 110k ride that would have beaten me up quite a bit on my old Ridley, and on the TCR I didn't even feel it. Strange Giant does not mention this in their marketing. Maybe so that people still buy Defys?
    The other huge surprise is the mechanic Ultegra, it's crazy good. FYI, size S without bottle cages and pedals weighs 7,3 kg.

    Probably going to snag one of those frames for my wife. The PF BB issues are anecdotal... depends what climate you’re in, how often you maintain it, and how much riding you do. Once a year rebuild, or replace will solve any issues. It’s a $35 part... not gonna break the bank.

      @@drtyjrze I've logged 500+ miles since October on a DUB BB30... not a single issue. My SW SL6 is a custom (frame up) build however... I'd be willing to bet most PF BB issues are from OEM built bikes.

    I have one like this. They're great bikes. If you find a deal they are great for the money. (I bought a model that's a couple years old, though still the latest version, with 105, OD2, and carbon wheels, or $2,800). The wheels are well-made but one complaint I have is that they are narrower than I want. I'd prefer them to be width optimized for 28 or 30mm tires. It's getting difficult these days to find a bike with a reasonable front end (standard stem and bars, external cables at the bar/stem) and I really appreciate that.

    IMO, what really sets this Giant apart is integrating a dual sided power meter at this price point. I’d imagine that’s going to cause other manufacturers to meet them there. Thoughts?

    • @DavidParkinson
      @DavidParkinson 3 роки тому

      @@andrewgiannini6094 well, I guess your banking on the stock your local shop has ordered. Other shops do have and for ML size a few scattered across the UK - just have to do a search by location and find any of them that are shipping. Was a doddle to put together. I just checked and 3 MLs in the UK. L, you’re out of luck. Had two rides. First was a fettle ride, so hard to tell. Did 30 miles today and loved every second. The power meter stats are great on my up front Garmin and the wheels sublime. I had thought cockpit a bit small but today was perfect. I’m 5,11. Frame stiff and shows, but not hard as bones stiff. Still comfy. My main worry was the compact gear setup. I have a local 20% and was worried the 36/30 would be a struggle. Did today and in reality it was no issues at all. All in a medium rather than a short rear cage with a 32 rear cassette would give more options on hills and still be as fast with the 52/11. But. Minor point. Can swap that out if I fancy. Coming from a Alu bike I loved this is a quality purchase with zero regrets.

    To be honest, I’ve never really felt that the component on a bike should ever be a strong deciding factor on bicycle choice.
    You can always upgrade the parts of a frame at a later date. However, you can’t upgrade the frame, short of buying a new bike. At which point you might as well just have gone with other bike to begin with.
    In short, buy the bike you want, parts be damned.

    I owned the last disc version of the TCR and it is an exceotional bike. I now own the specialized Sl7. Why didn’t I go with the new Giant? Because I love the aesthetic of internally routed cables at the head tube. The excuse with respect to practicality is nonsense, with the clamshell stems taking down the handlebar for travel is absolutely no problem. Adjusting the number of spacers is also no problem. Watch giant do complete internal routing in 2024.
