It is not completed since 2 years? Adani got additional 12000Crore Rs from SBI, tax payer money for this project. Why is Adani allowed to bid on more government projects if he has not finished this project? On top of that there is coal scam that has recently come out.

jewar will be too big, it will take many years to complete all phases, second phase will need private investors, but once done it will be magnificent

Navi Mumbai Airport was planned to commercialize activities in 2008. But due to political upheaval cause this delays, especially the Congress + UPA Government during 2004 to 2014. There was never a flooding in Ulwe river, except in 26th July 2005.
There is another plan of transport thru Ferry too to airport.
Due to cutting of hills in airport area cause climate change in nearby areas like Panvel City. Humidity increased. Winter also got reduced.
If you notice that Panvel Taluka/City is surrounded by mountains from all side. Its like Crater shape, a valley.

@@TooniMe obviously, it will be started as initially only around 65 flights a day will be, gradually it will have 6 strips, and gradually capacity of 3000 flights per day capacity, its always there, they Starr the flight operations,vs!d continue expanding the airport, and its tata construction, so it will be more stylish than igi delhi.
The problem is that smaller airports in tier-2 cities all over India still remain VERY under-developed (eg., Pune or Agra). So almost all traffic needs to go via hub airports in tier-1 cities (Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, etc). A lot of the traffic could have been alleviated if tier-2 city airports could be developed as large international airports well. For domestic traffic, most airports at tier-3 cities (big towns) remain limited to private aircraft owned by local VIPs (e.g., Bellary, Akola, Latur, Kota (the one famous for IIT coaching) ... etc.).
All are being upgraded as per the traffic.....Govt is doing heavy investment in infra to attract tourist, reduce transportation cost. Navi Mumbai will be made a Hub for other transnational flights. This is why Govt is developing temple tourism also....for people to watch something....
Developing tier 2 and 3 airports will be of less use compared to what you think it is. You search for flights between Jaipur and Coimbatore (both tier 2), it's all connecting flights and no direct flight. Developing tier 2 and 3 airports will only be useful if there were airlines with many aircrafts that would like to operate directly rather than the hub and spoke model. Indigo and Airindia do have a large number of aircraft orders but I fear very few of them would be used in direct flights between tier 2 cities.
Tier 2 airports remain under used and will remain until an International airline chose to land but they will only choose to land if there are domestic departures to other part of country and govt will only choose to upgrade if it's being overused. Sadly all are inter dependent and some entity has to take loss to start.
I am in complete agreement. Tier 2 airports should be upgraded immediately. When that is done airlines will schedule direct flights between two tier 2 cities. They can change their strategies when new aircraft arrive. They can use small aircraft like A320 or even small turboprops like ATR 72. Flying directly will take the stress off the.main hubs. For passengers it will be faster to fly directly.
Now they are doing hub and spokes because of the airports. When airports are upgraded they can do point to point.
International and domestic tourism will bring the traffic. Right now if there are no direct flights the traffic demand and growth is difficult to analyse. But I believe when you have direct flights between tier2 cities the traffic will come. Sometimes with these projects you must have an act of faith. India's population is huge. The chances of building white elephant projects is slim.
This Navi airport is superb because it is connected to the high speed rail. So it's multimodal air- road-rail which is superb planning.
@@tejasparse9053 A bit of a 'Chicken and Egg' problem. But I think India's huge population can support direct flights between most tier-2 cities at least (i.e, small ATR's nearly filled to capacity). Plus there is huge demand for international travel from pretty much every tier-2 city. To quote another cliche ... If you build it, they will come. The hub-spoke model is so economically inefficient.
@@golmatol6537 True. The moment Indigo and Air India starts receives it's new planes they will need some airport to park them and fly to different routes. This way automatically tier 2 cities should be connected and become new cheaper hub for these airlines.

For mumbai's sake, atleast 3 runways should have been planned 3 runways or its 2 runways, and all phases constructed fast. No metro connectivity yet between NMIA and CSMA

No flights get cancelled just because they cant handle the crowd... am a frequent traveller and i face delays in Mumbai Airport only because of climatic issues like heavy rains and Cyclone. Mumbai Airport is the most efficient Airport i have experienced.
The new airport is welcome but not sure where this guy is getting his data from - hes making the existing airport sound like a nightmare. As a fairly frequent flier, its nowhere as bad as he makes it sound. The only complain would be very long lines at security check would can easily be solved by augmenting capacity and opening up new areas of the airport which there seems to be plenty of.

The success will depend how many ways and how quickly one can reach to the ends of the city from Colaba to Virar rather than rail network nearby. The international traffic from rural area may not be high. Finally let’s hope these connections are a good value for money and hassle free otherwise Indians might hesitate to use this project.
I am frequent flyer in and out of Mumbai Airport, both domestic and international. I strongly believe incumbent status of the airport is highly exaggerated.
