    In Shakespeare's time the profession of lawyer was quite different than it is today--or in more modern times since he wrote those lines. in fact, lawyers did little or next to nothing in matters of defense since almost all the work of trying a case was in the hands of JUDGES. It only came about much later that lawyers were ALLOWED to speak on behalf of the accused! Perhaps, because of the foregoing explanation, Shakespeare found lawyers of his day USELESS, and therefor could be DISPENSED with.

    Ironically, we have lawyers to thank for adding to what little official records we have of Shakespeare. He was involved as a witness in a court case involving the owners of the boarding house he stayed at, though because this case was years old by the time he was called to testify, he couldn't remember very much that was relevant. However, given that there's precious little verifiable records of Shakespeare, this one court case gives us something by an official government source. It's not much, but at least it can verify where he was at a particular point in time.

    I think Shakespeare was wise enough to recognize that lawyers are there to stand up to the tyrants and tell them, ''You can't do that! It's against the law!'' and especially to those that abused their authorities to get what they want for their own quotas, especially the ones who have to receive only a six month training to do that.

      If only that were true, if only that were true... Any good Tyrant will handpick the people in justice and as far as the everyday scenarios go, whoever has the money wins. Lawyers are scum.

    • @Toshineko
      @Toshineko 2 роки тому

      That might be possible. Unfortunately, given the high amount of false convictions, police using deception to get you arrested, which they're allowed to do, btw, the amount of scummy prosecutors hiding evidence from defense lawyers which would've acquitted the innocents, and the TERRIBLE public defender system, as well as the amount of legal and attorney fees you had to pay, what you say about whoever has the most money wins isn't far from the truth.
      But that is how unfair the US justice system is. And given how many defense lawyers that worked their hardest to get people that were forced into the system out of it, the generalization of all lawyers being scum is far from the truth.

    • @jimtaylor294
      @jimtaylor294 2 роки тому +7

      Ironically though Lawyers also play the other side; getting evident crooks off the hook with whataboutisms and other mechanisms for sowing doubt / misrepresenting evidence and testimony.
      That; and they also will protect those they suspect to be the villain of the situation, just because said villain pays well.
      So really; one could say a given Lawyer is a 50/50 case of saint or serpent, until their actions demonstrate which of those they are... or something in the middle.

    • @dwight3555
      @dwight3555 2 роки тому +6

      A lawyer by definition doesn't stand up to anything. It's a soulless automaton designed to uphold the law, and the law is simply what the strongest force around says it is. Lawyers can work for good or for evil, but they're neither, their entire task is devoid of morality and conscience, it's to coldly apply words dictated by those stronger than them.

    • @Toshineko
      @Toshineko 2 роки тому

      @@dwight3555 You're half-right on your definition. Prosecutors are lawyers designed not to stand up to governments, but to prosecute people for the government.
      However, we also have lawyers that challenges the prosecution: Criminal defense attorneys. If you want an example of how a lawyer can attack the government for their client, watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/ZtIeg-rdIlU/v-deo.html

    Lesson learned: don't kill the lawyers, kill Law

  • @HolyKhaaaaan
    @HolyKhaaaaan 2 роки тому

    Law is actually pretty complicated, convoluted, and has a tendency to be based upon the insane ideas and actions of individuals.
    If you have ever heard of a weird or obscure law, there was undoubtedly some incident that made that law seem like a really good idea at the time.
    And it's amazing what people will draw connections between and therefore decide to do. Any profession that makes a pretence of involving human beings requires insane and sometimes stupidly creative thinking.

    • @Hagashager
      @Hagashager 2 роки тому

      Case in point: The English law that makes "The suspicous handling of fish in a public place." An arrestable offense.
      This is an actual law written some time in mid-Medieval period and has not been stricken by modern England.
      At the time it made sense. English (along with most of Europe) ate enormous amounts of fish, particularly on Friday and especially during Easter (Lent). It was a very common and tragic tactic of criminals to poison fish and cause mass sickness or death. The law made it so doing anything weird with any fish would automatically get you arrested.
      By the late middle-ages the consumption of fish decreased in favor of beef and thus the relevance of the law diminished as well- yet it's still on the books.
      For a more modern example: here in the US a lot of states have laws that make it an arrestable offense to eat a very **specific food** in public.
      These food laws are old and date back to a time when eating, say, peanuts in public might agitate a farmer's chickens or something so it made made illegal.

The opposite would be quite correct though, 'cause lawyers live in and with problems, and if you eliminate all the problems you won't have a need for them anymore. When the lease ended, the owner, Giles Allen, refused to renew it. He planned to use the building for something else. The Burbages instead dismantled The Theater, transported the timbers across the Thames, and used them to build The Globe in 1599.

      Dentists aren't hated? Some people find them useless for some reason but don't hate them. Lawyers still get way more hate than dentists.

    Let's be honest, lawyers are mercenaries for hire, assholes, not fucking knights in shining armor that come to help you free of charge.
    You could be defending people for the good of the state or for your personal beliefs as a public prosecutor with those skills but you rather charge people for their right of freedom and their ignorance of the law. Even if they are innocent, also where poor people get a prosecutor, corporations exclusively hire lawyers.
    Really it should illegal to become or hire a lawyer, it just opens the balance of justice to wealth disparity and ensures corrupt assholes get preferential treatment in the eyes of the law.
    It just fucks up the whole process of a fair trial.

      It should be illegal to...study law? Is that what you're saying?
      Public defenders are lawyers too.

      @@weetdirt It shouldn't be a matter of money who gets what lawyer, or worse having a full harvard legal team vs a single man and a barely graduated defender.
      Last year amazon avoided their taxes trough legal loopholes, because they could aford the best defence, making them that much richer.
      Now a man that has been strugling to pay the bills because he suffered a work related acident, won't have any respite and will be cheated out of his lawfull retirement without a lawyer to represent him.
      This is not justice, it's a unspoken cast system where the rich have greater rights than the poor.
      All laywers like judges, should work for the state and be assigned to cases by chance, only then you can have a fair system legal system.
