- In this episode of ‘Editorial’, Mr. Sujit Nair discusses about the recent remarks made by the Supreme Court of India on Patanjali and the Uttarakhand government for its misleading ads.
The Supreme Court, on Wednesday, criticized the Uttarakhand government for its collaboration with negligent licensing officers and its failure to address deceptive advertisements by Patanjali Ayurved [Indian Medical Association & Anr v. Union of India and Ors].
A Bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah said in its order,
"We are appalled by the action of the State Licensing Authority and it shows nothing apart from pushing the files and the clear attempt by State Licensing Authority was there to delay the matter. The State Licensing Authority remained in deep slumber and the person who holds the position of the Joint Director is holding the post since 9 months and it is enough to be aware of the matter. The predecessor is also complicit in the case and he is to file an affidavit explaining the conduct on his part when misleading ads were being given by Divya Pharmacy (Patanjali) in violation of the Act. The disdain shown by Divya Pharmacy to the warnings of the State Authority is apparent from tone and tenor of the reply."

I am ashamed as an Indian that we are still discussing about such shody companies like Patanjali, where as, as a Keralite I am extemely proud that Mallus were vere sceptical about this company and didnt allow this company to flourish it in our land...
That's because in Kerala we find Ayurveda in the purest of form that has been evolved over centuries. Funniest point is Ramdev who was bitterly critical of noodles in 2014 because of its Oriental origin, went on to produce and market noodles which became swadeshi because Patanjali manufactured it.
It goes without saying one is proud because he/she is a Keralite because they are literate and know to differentiate between good and evil. Their way of thinking and discerning way above the average politicians in the centre.

The foreign brands are no better. They sell some products for years with great fanfare and latter quitely withdraw them when some complaints against them gets tested and proved in a court of law or otherwise.
Why use all this products. There are somany natural products in your garden. We used to use hibiscus leaves as a hair conditioner. Use a mild soap and then condition it. We also had a tree bark act as a mild soap and scrubber babies. People never any other soap for babies. First, rain water is always healed from heat rashes . Use coconut nut oil for hair

The whole exercise is being carried out while sitting in the pockets of multinational FMCG & Pharmaceutical companies whose monopolies of decades past are now threatened by the likes of Patanjali.

I took patanjali’s Coronil for almost 1 year - it harmed me medically very badly…….i was very, very sick - it took me 18 months to get back my health.
I was asked by the MBBS medical doctor did I ask me if I have been taking any metals - Ayurvedic medicine has metals apparently which are harmful - could be the cause of my illness ………

The Courts ought to know that Ayurveda is 5000+ years old and the ingredients used in any ayurvedic preparation is natural herbs and not chemicals. If the advertisements are a concern why single out Patanjali. Are the other FMCG advertisemnts sacrosanct and if they are not why not pull up all of them. What happened about Maggi story and how Maggi is back in the market. How much cash changed hands in the process? Finally, the language used by the judge is not what we expect from such an authority.
Courts are expected to deliver justice. Not threats.
Elected government has to oblige the orders given by courts , but not respecting the court orders. In AP , government is ignoring the court orders , president directions etc with Godi support and doing all loots and atrocities. This is state of governance in Godi raj. To some extent only courts are protecting democracy in India. Under Godi 3 , he wants to abolish constitution with 400 MPs and make courts also as his slaves. Save democracy and save India.

A lot of the adults in my family and uncles and aunts buy patanjali. Few times I tried to explain why they shouldn't buy, they started yapping about why I don't do yoga and maintain great health like ramdev and how they are doing great at an old age. To this extent they have somehow dedicated the cause of their good health at an old age to ramdev and his brand.
People like that cannot be changed.
Ramdev sells nationalism and religious motifs wrapped up in his products, people buy it hoping it will lessen their sins and karmic burdens.
Court orders can only give a short pause to such nationwide hysteria, but there is no scope for permanent change.
