If you ever need to break the shell again, mounting does wonders at breaking the shell. After mounting maybe 3 or maybe sometimes even 2 times after whaling on the shell after a down, you'll break it from my experience.

Yeah astalos wing in sunbreak, i used primordial lbg just to spam slicing ammo on its wings before even trying to kill it
People advice to farm the G3 subquest (break the shell, then wound the Malfestio's head to end via subquest) for quickier tries. In Ruined Pinnacle, there is a rock in area 3 you can climb and Rustrazor can't reach or destroy, so is easy time with a HBG.
Someone said it doesn't drop from Gravios shell, but the Japanese wikia says it does (G3 onwards, 80%). For the Glavenus skull, it says it is a 55% reward for "reducing durability to 0 twice", so that might be the trick, you need to break it 2 times like in this video.
I thought about that and I might try that quest for the FOUR scalps I need.

Jyuratodus fins are also terrible to grind in World, especially when you keep killing them before you can break their backs.
@jamesproctor4568 I think I used dual blades and slotted max destroyer to keep breaking the back.
I saw a japanese video of a guy farming the shellbreak on g3 standing on top of the big climbable mountain then killing malphestio for subquest end, its tedious but the best option i found
Nah, so, the best way to get Heavy Rustrazor Scalp is doing G4 Rustrazor and *breaking solely the Glavenus shell.*
*DO NOT* break the Gravios shell. What they mean by an 80% chance is that it's an 80% chance to get a Heavy Rustrazor Scalp from breaking the Glavenus shell for G4, G5, and EX.
Breaking the Gravios shell gives you Heavy Wyvern Scalp, which is virtually useless. By extension, it also technically reduces your chances of getting Heavy Rustrazor Scalp.
I forgot to show it but the one I doing and kept doing was G4 and only breaking Glavenus shell because I couldn't break the other one
Japanese wikia says it drops from Gravios shell too, only G3 onwards.
It's so frustrating when you know it's close to breaking and then he gets on the ground to change the head. lol I managed to farm this with a friend using aerial GS and a hammer.
I honestly just use part breaker and weakness exploit for shell breaks...break at least 4 shells
If u ever need to break parts use moonbreaker has a 70 increase to part damage at moonbreaker 3

When he uses his super, he sparks 4 times every time, will always do it if he sharpens while his claws are still blue and he always emotes after. The 4 spark thing is REALLY important for those wanting to Adept Evade it. He also points his free claw at his target, which is the most direct sign of where he's going to slash.
You do know how to make the Balance Bug? Cause having no Extract Extender reeeealy sucks.
Btw did someone tell you how to feed Slingerammo to your Kinsect? Gives you more extract Uptime, its a important Move for Ig in World.
Oh I just remembered, Mounts are very usefull to break the Skull faster. Aerial Ig goes brrrr.

my go to weapon when breaking rustrazor shell is always either a pierce lbg or pierce hbg, its a piece of cake walk

My method for farming the shell was to go Aerial Hammer and do the G3 quest. I just upgraded a regular ol' bone hammer to max, slapped on partbreaker and went for it. If you can restrain him in any way, that's a big help, traps good!
Once I get the break, I then do the subquest (break Malfestio's head) and leave via subquest.
The biggest annoyance was Malfestio may sometimes come in to say hi and screw everything up. I found that finding Malfestio first and letting him see you can delay him showing up where Rustrazor is.
Easy solution for breaking the shell: get a glaive, spam the shell with aerial attacks. Mount, break shall and let it get another shell. Spam new shell with mounting attacks, mount, break shell and let it get another one. Rinse repeat. You can get 2 scalps per hunt with this

Some of them are from when I first went through and soloed the EX but even still, so many runs 😔
