  • First time trying the Insect Glaive in Monster Hunter World Iceborne. I probably should have chosen an easier monster to practice on but it's a little to late to think about that.

    I used it for a full MHW playthrough. It had potential to be fun but it has some problems that got me to switch off before Iceborne. Jump Master and Airborne DON'T affect Insect Glaive's jump or aerial attacks and all the buffs you need to still be a usable weapon is so much maintenance. Even with triple power prolonger the buffs ware off too fast before you can do any significant damage. It has a cycling combo you can chain but the damage is so middling. Insect Glaive just feels like the kid of dual blades and longsword. The middle road of damage between the two with spamable combos and a cool premise but falls off on both.
    It was fun at the start but yeah there are other weapons that do what it does better. For aerial attacks all you need is a ledge and longsword, hammer, greatsword etc. can far outdamage Insect Glaive. The only real advantage it has is being able to jump on command.

    Tryed that and the combos are cool, but hitting the right spots for your insects is s bit annoying for me.

    My first weapon was insect glaive, and it still is my main. I just like its manuverability because you can launch yourself in the air and dodge most attacks while dealing damage. Kinsect helps a lot, too :)

    You can just send the kinsect in front of you with a certain input, you'd have to check the weapon controls because I don't immediately remember
    But another trick you'll commonly see is that Insect Glaivers will deliberately not get all 3 colors immediately, they'll start with Red because that's what upgrades their melee combos, then they'll accumulate white and orange later to reset the timer on the overall buff.

      I later learned in the video a faster way to get the buffs

    I’m an insect glaive main so here’s some tips to make it much faster pace in hunts.
    Don’t use pheromone darts, just learn to aim and guide your kinsect to spots. Holding left trigger and the top input on Xbox and Ps controllers will send the kinsect out wherever your reticle is, while left trigger and the right button will call it back. U can send the kinsect back past your monster to collect painful extracts from the back of monsters if that’s your thing.
    Each extract does a different thing
    Red-Unlocks new attacks for you like the pole dance spin in the air for mounting
    Orange-prevents knockbacks
    White-increases movement speed
    You wanna keep up on all extracts at once so try to make sure you always have all 3
    A thing iceborne added was the infusion of slinger ammo into insects to boost them: normally insects collect 1 extract and then you call them back, once u infuse them (left trigger and top and right buttons on controller I think, I haven’t played world in a bit) it will be able to collect two extracts while also extending the stamina bar.
    There’s alot more to insect glaive like what each kinsect does, how powder kinsects work and how to chain an infinite combo but that’s the main basics.
    Also learn the descending thrust which will drop you direct down into the monster when vaulted. You move slightly forward when doing this so take that into account.
    But insect glaive is so much more then air stripper if u know how to use it. Happy Hunting 🥳

    Yeah it’s more fun if you aren’t constantly marking for extract. I usually only mark for the insect cloud attacks and also for when I have double up, i mark for the third and leave the insect out to recall just before it expires so i can then go into triple up.

    Pressing the aim button and triangle let’s you deploy the kinsect without having shot a specific shot first on the monster and you can buff it with triangle and circle together using slinger ammo

  • @gagedude89
    @gagedude89 4 місяці тому +1

    I forget the exact button combo, something like left trigger, triangle, and circle at the same tome while.the weapon is out, but you can feed slinger ammo to your kinsect which allows it to hold multiple extracts and once and gives it some other nice bonuses

    Someone really needs to make a more concise Glaive tutorial that includes iceborne moves aswell as the basics of world Glaive. RIght triggering while in the air is my favourite move to do with the strongest kinsect, that kinsect aerial drill move is so satisfying to pull off for me. It may not be the strongest move in the game but its just alot of fun to try pulling off.
    Also yeah, L2+Y/Triangle is the best way to control your kinsect to get extracts. Basically turns kinsect into a ranged weapon if you have endgame kinsects.

  • @chewbacachunks8644
    @chewbacachunks8644 4 місяці тому +3

    You don't have to do the slow aim and shoot thing to get extracts. If you aim with L2 and press triangle or Y on xbox, you will throw the kinsect out much faster. You can even spam this to make the kinsect hit again and again. Also you can use slinger ammo to buff your kinsect. Hold L2 and press both attack buttons. You will consume one ammo to buff your kinsect. You want to do this because it will make the extract buffs last longer. It is better to use slinger ammo dropped from monsters as they will give you the best duration and the best damage. Also different glaives have different slinger buff interactions. The best one is the one that the Fatalis glaive has. It applies both buffs from regular ammo and the buff from monster drop ammo simultaneously no matter what ammo you use.
    Also the spear dive you can do by pressing R2 while in the air is your most powerful move. It can be tricky to get good at using it, but it is very important to master the dive if you want to get good at the weapon.
    Also flinch free acts differently with the insect glaive. Once you have gathered all 3 extracts, if you are using 3 levels of flinch free, you also get a bonus +3 to earlugs, +3 to tremor resist, and +3 windproof. So if you put 2 levels of earplugs in your build, and have 3 flinch free, and get all 3 extracts. You end up with max earplugs, plus a few other skill bonuses.
    Also this part doesn't matter quite as much but it is still good to know. The triangle or Y attacks scale better with elemental damage, and the circle or B attacks scale better based off of raw damage. So if you are using a glaive that is mostly raw damage, using the raw scaling attacks more often is preferable.
    Insect glaive is a really fun weapon in iceborne once it all clicks. If you want to do more optimal damage with it. You really only use the grounded combos and the dive. Optimal play actually involves A LOT of diving. Look up pretty much any Speedrun and you will see how often they use it. They almost never use regular air attacks, as they don't do a whole lot of damage and burn through sharpness. But that's only if you want to do optimal damage. I still use the regular air attacks because they are fun. You just have to be careful because many monsters have ways of batting you out the sky. It's usually better the stay grounded so you can dodge roll. Unless you know for a fact you can use the jump to avoid an attack and punish with a dive.

    I don't know if you heard about this, but there is a technique called kinsect drilling in iceborne that is pretty cool with a slow but powerful kinsect with elements.
