    From the trailer alone, to people saying it’s inaccurate consider this:
    The events themselves are probably not.
    However, the portrayal of Sissi’s emotions, how she must’ve felt in each moment, probably the most spot on.
    It’s not a documentary in the sense of the events and timeline being accurate.
    This portrayal is an emotional documentary, it’s art. Appreciate it for what it is.

      totally agree - I think the empress is just a vehicle to make a movie about the wider experience of being a woman throughout history. There are little nods to modernity (her tattoos, neon lighting, modern doors, I even spotted plastic mopping bucket!) that make me think she isn't just a singular character, rather a timeless one. I could be totally off, though!

      Yeah but the issue is that movies that brand themselves as historical but contain a lot of false information end up spreading a lot of misinformation because most people are not going to look into what is real and what is not. The blending of fact and fiction can be dangerous. Also these were real people that lived, to me it is somewhat disrespectful to falsely represent their lives. Of course she was an unhappy woman, and her death was tragic, but the way she treated her children, her husband, her relatives was far from being loving and caring 🙂 She once depicted in a letter her daughter Gisèle as "a dried out sow" : what a loving mother ! So a lot of period dramas interpreted it like the women's fashion magazines were an honest and accurate indication of how people behaved.
      Others see those articles as social commentary and would be very surprised if it was actually the behavior.
      With regards to what comes out of a work book. Well.... they are manuals for work. It's outlining the way people are expected to act in a professional environment. Not really how people actually were.
      I find it hard to believe that the famous Victorian Etiquette was anything other than social commentary from the times. Not actually documentation of everyone's behavior. The way it's written makes it sound like it. I feel the 1950s was more strict, and probably a bit nicer, than this era.

      The creators of GoT didn't invent it...but it's famously linked to Tywin Lannister now. Which makes it a bad quote for a trailer, imo. Coming from an empress here, it really invites a direct comparison between the characters.
      And although this trailer does look promising, imo... that's huge footsteps to try to fill.

    Elizabeth of Austria was an intelligent and complex woman, but also utterly selfish. She wanted to have all the advantages of her high position, but didn't want to give anything back to people. She just wanted to live isolated and travel all the time with her race horses.

    • @jflo2023
      @jflo2023 Рік тому +67

      It is written that Elisabeth became physically ill when living under the constraints of the Habsburg household and a domineering mother-in-law, who removed each of her first 3 children from her after they were born, not allowing her to be a mother to them. Doctors recommended that she lived elsewhere to improve her health, and apparently, her health did improve when she was away from the palace. It was common for those who could afford it, to travel to warmer climates to recuperate.
      In today's terms, it would seem that Sissi may have had what we now know to be an eating disorder, which as we know brings all kinds of health issues with it. She stopped eating after the death of her 2 yr old daughter and became depressed, never to recover, the depression and melancholy was compounded by a string of personal losses that included the murder-suicide of her son and his partner, the suicide of her cousin and her sister burning to death in a fire. Both of Franz's brothers died, young Karl died after drinking infected water and Max was shot by a firing squad, his wife Carlotta lost her mind.
      There doesn't appear to be anything written to substantiate that Elisabeth was selfish, but she was shy which can sometimes be mistaken for being distant, so I am unsure what information you are using to determine this evaluation.
      From all accounts, it seems that she was simply doing her best to survive what life had put in front of her. It is documented that she had a kind and altruistic nature, influencing her husband to be merciful. It is also documented that she was one of the most charitable queens, as a young girl she was known for visiting peasants, and as Empress, she took time to care for battle-wounded soldiers, amongst other reports of benevolence. None of what I have read about this person indicates that she was in any way selfish.
