The ensemble "Alla Francesca" in this work performs music from the time of Richard the Lionheart, including the famous "Ja Nuns Hons Pris", written by Riccardo himself during his imprisonment in Dürnstein Castle. In this video I have selected some photos of three very important castles in the life of Richard I of England: the first (which appears from 0:00 to 35:54) is the famous Château-Gaillard, the historic and majestic fortress built by Riccardo between 1196-1198, during the war against the king of France Philippe Auguste; the second castle (from minute 35:54 to 45:00) is that of Dürnstein, where Richard was imprisoned on his return from the third crusade. Finally, from minute 45:00 to 51:14, there is Châlus Chabrol, a fortress that Richard besieged in 1199 and where he died for an arrow shot from the walls while the king supervised the siege. Richard's bowels are now buried right in the chapel of Châlus Chabrol, his heart is in Rouen while his body rests in the abbey of Fontevrault together with those of his parents, Henri II and Aliénor d'Aquitaine inside a splendid effigy from which his face can be clearly distinguished and that in this video I left in transparency under all the photographs as if he were a king who finally rests after a life of battles, songs, intrigues ...
The ensemble "Alla Francesca" has chosen the stupendous abbey of Fontevrault to record this splendid musical work dedicated to Riccardo; I am thrilled to know that the echoes of these melodies, certainly familiar to the king, have resounded among the vaults of Fontevrault once again, 797 years after Riccardo's death, right next to him.
PS: the miniature that appears at the end I found it instead from a manuscript (circa 13th century) and there is represented King Richard during his imprisonment in Dürnstein and next to him the moment of his death, pierced by an arrow, in Châlus Chabrol.

L'ensemble "Alla Francesca" in questa opera esegue musiche del tempo di Riccardo Cuor di Leone, tra le quali la celebre "Ja Nuns Hons Pris", scritta dallo stesso Riccardo durante la sua prigionia nel castello di Dürnstein. In questo video ho selezionato alcune foto che di tre castelli molto importanti nella vita di Riccardo I d'Inghilterra: il primo (che appare da 0:00 a 35:54 ) è il celebre Château-Gaillard, la storica e maestosa fortezza fatta edificare da Riccardo tra il 1196-1198, durante la guerra contro il re di Francia Philippe Auguste; il secondo castello (dal minuto 35:54 a 45:00 ) è quello di Dürnstein, in cui Riccardo fu imprigionato al ritorno dalla terza crociata. Infine, dal minuto 45:00 a 51:14, c'è Châlus Chabrol, fortezza che Riccardo assediò nel 1199 e dove trovò la morte al seguito di una freccia scoccata dalla mura mentre il re supervisionava l'assedio. Le viscere di Riccardo ora sono sepolte proprio nella cappella di Châlus Chabrol, il suo cuore è a Rouen mentre il suo corpo riposa nell'abbazia di Fontevrault insieme a quelli dei suoi genitori, Henri II ed Aliénor d'Aquitaine all'interno di una splendida effige dalla quale si può distinguere chiaramente il suo volto e che in questo video ho lasciato in trasparenza sotto a tutte le fotografie come fosse un re che finalmente riposa dopo una vita di battaglie, canzoni, intrighi...
L'ensemble "Alla Francesca" ha scelto proprio la stupenda abbazia di Fontevrault per registrare questa splendida opera musicale dedicata a Riccardo; mi emoziona sapere che gli echi di queste melodie, sicuramente familiari al re, hanno risuonato tra le volte di Fontevrault ancora una volta, 797 anni dopo la morte di Riccardo, proprio di fianco a lui.
PS: la miniatura che appare alla fine invece l'ho trovata da un manoscritto dal XIII secolo circa e vi è rappresentato re Riccardo durante la sua prigionia a Dürnstein ed a fianco il momento della sua morte, trafitto da una freccia, a Châlus Chabrol.
