Full Power Lasers for Night Vision (not worth it)

  • We will say it: We don't think full power IR lasers are worth it for most people. What we care about most is a high quality IR illuminator.
    If you have a full power unit, awesome! If you don't, don't sweat it. You can do work with whatever setup you have access to.
    Our favorite budget entry laser is the TLR VIR ii. Is it the best? Nope. But it gets you a white light, IR flood and IR laser for around $400. Check them out.

    On one setup Im using a Holosun LS321G and the IRL/IL is perfect for CQB distances; on another setup I’m running a Holosun LS117IR and a Surefire M340V connected with a Unity TAPS Sync and it's a pretty decent pairing. Holosun lasers in my experience are fairly clean, low bloom dots that can easily be seen out to 200. For the distances I'm shooting, the Surefire is enough illumination. I'm looking at the KIJI K1 3 degree for another setup as its illumination is damn good. If that is out of your budget then the LUNA ELIR IR Laser illuminator is probably the next best for the money.

    I have a Steiner 9007 IR laser/illuminator. The laser works great to 300 yards (+?), illuminator only "okay" to 100 yards. I only have 300 yards to shoot @ so a more powerful laser feel like overkill. Steiner laser paired with the surefire IR scout light, it works great for my range, the scout puts out a lot more IR illumination.
    Thanks for putting out helpful content as always guys, not everyone has thousands to throw around to buy gucci gear, but still shouldn't waste their money on crap.

      The Steiner 9007 is probably the best laser to go with in my opinion expecially for the price point., the atpial c isnt even that great in my opinion and I see no point in having a visible laser

    • @ryaniam22
      @ryaniam22 Рік тому

      So how can you shoot something at 300 if you can't see it? Don't you need the illuminator to work at 300?
      If so they it only works to 100. Still good. But I'd just buy a cheaper unit and save for a clip on thermal. They work way beyond 300. A single thermal saves a civilian a lot compared to all this night vision crap that still only works to 100 yards and makes you gun weigh double.

    • @pototoy4514
      @pototoy4514 Рік тому

      @ryaniam22 I have steel @ 300yds and the laser reflects off it making it more obvious I'm aiming at steel instead of a tree. My pvs14 is pretty decent and on clear nights, the illuminator isn't really necessary for larping around on the range.

    As said before, the fire definitely killed the vid, maybe stand in front of it so it doesn't blow out the picture. it was hard to see the illumination. Also, slightly annoyed that this vid was on the page for the d2 but the d2 wasn't shown. Definitely was a great show of how much stronger a FP unit is tho.

    I have a TLR-VIR which I bought for Regular Light and IR Illumination finding out the IR Illumination was only good for indoor use. I purchased an IR Cap lens for the Regular Light turning it into an IR Illumination light and it throws light out into the woods a lot better, can't even use it indoors. I've been meaning to check if there's a Regular light I can cap with the IR lens that has a IR laser.

      @airborneivan 2 роки тому

      @@Unboxfulty not sure it matters between the green and red laser. You're really only using it for daytime zeroing. As for the IR , it's very bright. So bright that it will illuminate a 12' × 15' room. Good thing you can adjust the brightness. One thing I don't like is that there's a "halo" you get when using it under NODS. I'm not entirely sure why. There's a guy that makes a diffuser for it but haven't tried it. Not sure about illuminators but I'm just running a Streamlight Protac RM2 and carry an IR filter in my gear. Doesn't work well outdoors but it seems to work well indoors in extreme low light areas which is all I need it for. As of now I'm very happy with it.

    You can get full balls to the wall 50mw DBAL i2's or A3's for 700-1300 all over right now. At that price, it's hard to accept any argument about combining a Kiji with your choice of laser. Shit, I even have a couple machine guns that have death star lasers that are 500mw, and those scare the shit out of me. Still, you don't need to spend 5-7k on a FP Wilcox RaidXe or MAWL DA, just get a FP DBAL and you're good. Laser based illumination will always be superior to LED. With low laser and high illuminator on my DBAL i2, it is more than functional and perfect for blasting hogs or shooting on a flat range at distance.
    If those deals do dry up, I agree that a Kiji or Weltool IR head with whatever laser you want are the way to go. Also, never buy a civilian PEQ15, they are dogshit.
