Pretty impressive to need to replace the flint so often, my Granddad smoked about 30 a day after going through WW2, he did give it up about 20 years after the war though.
Brooks Van Pelt they didn't have wicks available, at least readily. Flints were so small, you could carry a large amount. I also doubt the flints were the same as they are now, they were probably much harder than they are now.
I thought those would just burn you? From what I’ve heard you can take some sort of conductor and put that to the lighter, then touch the conductor and it will shock you. Or I’m wrong ?
actually, the imco triplex does. it's much better engineered, and works for longer on half the amount of fluid. taste is not an issue at all, if you use proper, clean naphta, not some stanky destillates or (worst) car fuel.
Zippos for pre roled cigs, clippers for anything you roll, or if you are like me ad roll a few of them before going out, use both; clipper to roll it and zippo to light it. There is nothing manlier than a zippo

Those jet lighters are insane! Honestly, I didn't know them till now. I just got a Zippo though, perhaps next time I'll look into one of those. Thanks for the video, very informative.
One thing you should've mentioned is the operating temperature. Butane lighter don't work well/at all if kept in cold, arc lighters probably lose charge (faster) in cold weather. But the petrol lighters/zippos work just fine no matter how cold it is outside.
Well lighter fluid will actually freeze if it gets too cold, but that's a much lower temperature than would ever normally be encountered. Keeping a lighter on an inside pocket means body heat will stop the butane from failing.
Well actually, I work outdoors and just few weeks ago the temperature outside was -25 to -30 degrees celsius. I kept my lighter on my side pocket and whenever you try to light a cigarette, my normal butane lighter didnt either work at all or the flame was really really small and flickering. So either you use a zippo or keep that butane lighter under all of your clothing, which then is a pain in the ass to take out from.
@@IronHawkFIN well, fluid lighter is definitely perfect for you there, especially where it will evaporate much slower compared to here in tropical places, most people here use disposable lighters

I don't smoke weed anymore but pipe lighters are really good for smoking weed especially if you use a bong. The side flame makes it easy to light and they usually have a built in packing tool and a poking tool. And you look cool using a fancy lighter.
peanut/capsule petrol lighters aren't great for everyday use, but excellent as a bullet (and water) proof emergency backup. clear silicone o-rings let some fuel to diffuse out over time, so for best results replace those with proper, gasoline resistant ones.
If you want a zippo get a thunderbird insert. It is about $20 (that includes shipping and tax) and it's butane so it is pressurized and will not dry up. You can get jet fame or soft flame with it too. So if you want a double stream blue jt flame you can have it.
That arc lighter yeah, I have something like That, pretty much a Zippo lighter but has the mini taser in it, it's pretty cool considering I have access to custom models and I can switch the mini taser mechanism from one to the other
Been using my clipper lighter for 4 years now.. it is cheap reusable unlike a bic and it won't burn your hand if you tilt it..it has a certain pressure
I appreciate the straight forward ness of this video. Too many other videos are too gimmicky, too wordy, or too out of focus. Too many fucking potatoes. This is just simple and direct. Bought another zippo lighter as a result. Thumbs up.
I think Jet/Torch lighter is the most versatile design, but it has one glaring shortcoming. It doesn't illuminate at all! That is where the good old click/Wheel lighters shine. They're the best thing if you're indoors, and just like the vibe of illumination everytime you light. Why do you think Filmmakers continue to use them only? They add an aesthetic element and are great for dramatic lighting and contrast.
Clippers have the additional feature that when you angle them upside down they let more gas out, and that makes the flame biggger and more wind resestant.
Yes I own one but on mine it emtyes itself out over time like a zippo would do and sometimes it won´t light up for hours. So i go with the plasic ones :)

My question...: In a survival situation where one is in the dubious position of needing to light a wet campfire and is fortuitous enough to have a jet flame lighter, how does one refill the fossil fuel said torch requires in order to light said wet combustible material??
Tbh i think for survival situation jet lighter has big flaw and that is butane consuption. I think permanent matches are one of the best (u can use pretty much anything flameble as fuel like gasoline, lighter fluid etc.) since they have o-ring they don't leak and are water proof. Give it a shot if you don't have one (they are pretty cheap)
My permanent match broke really quickly, most are utter garbage. Peanut lighters are probably the most practical of the fuel lighters, also jet lighters have about the same consumption of fuel as a regular butane lighter.
I totally agree. I love Zippos. Yes, you have to feed it. Yes, you have to replace parts, but that's nothing like the relationship you can make with that lighter. It creates a connection. Like a little mate which follows through your life and works like magic.
I used to go through 5-8 bics a month, bought a clipper and a can of butane 5 months later all I had to do was replace the flint with a dead bic's I found on the road. Bic is inferior to clipper.

It seems to be refillable but I’m not sure, however I can’t look up if it is or not because I don’t know the type of lighter it could be considered. Any input on this?
Bic is the best disposable. Clipper breaks after you change the flint three times. Those jet lighters are very delicate and are easily corrupted by dust or variations in temperature. In my experience cheap imco lighter from aliexpress is the most reliable kind of lighter but it is hard to use since flame is small and it smells as bad as zippo.
The clipper is the best for survival situations by far! The jet lighters use too much butane! Zippos need to be refilled every other day and the fuel leaks out 24/7! Clipper ftw! Ps. Bics suck because you can't change the flint or refill them! And the striking reel hurts your finger!
The fuel usage varies a lot on the jet lighter, some barely use fuel and have a very small concentrated flame, the other great thing with a Clipper is that you can hold it at an angle and it makes a bigger flame.
Depends what sort of material the coat/trousers are I imagine but if you kept refilling it and putting it in jeans constantly it would probably soak into the material.
I've got a lighter that I can't find anywhere online. It says "Muratti" on it. It's gray and has got a black button that you slide down. It's got battery and gas. No clue how it's called. Looks slightly like the Muratti ambassador I think, nice slim design. Does anyone know what it might be?

Yes but obviously don't do it if the clothes are flammable, I'd probably recommend the forhu type ones I've done a video on.
You can use the arc lighter to light a hemp wic, which is really neat. ^^
