I used to have a Pioneer SX-1280 with a Technics EQ SH-Z250 pushing Cerwin Vega RE-25 Tower Speakers.
I really enjoyed & loved that stereo. Had to get rid of it. I chose to take care of some family before they passed.
I knew it was a good sound system, I just didn't realize how good of a sound system it really was!
You only have one mother & father. It was well worth it to me to spend it with them!

I like the Panasonic stereos. They make good quality stereos!
I agree with you, digital tuners suck! A analog tuner that rolls smooth & has a beautiful face plate is so pleasing to operate!

Back in the early 1970s I had a wonderful analogue FM stereo tuner with Dolby FM, connected to an extremely large external aerial on a rotator.
It was brilliant it I turned off the AFC button and went hunting for distant FM stations. Living in London I could pick up Lille in France 170 miles away.
I still have the tuner today. Long live FM

    She's a beauty. It's my favorite brand. Thank again for saving my sa-gx670. I have a collection:. Sa-gx505 (original owner :) ) sa-gx670, sa-gx100. Dat SV-DA10, turntable sl-1950. Sl-b202 sl-b200, tape m205, rs-tr333, dcc rs-dc10, cd rs-pd887, sl-mc60. Love them all!
I'm looking for a nice analog Technics silver face to go with my m205 tape in the garage. They are getting hard to find that don't look like crap. I'm picky. My m205 was out of someone's garage and it was a disaster. Took me about 4 houra to clean and service it. Why don't people take care of this great equipment??!!

I had a SA-5370 receiver, had from 1978 till 2004 , with sl 1900 direct drive turntable and Lafayette speakers, sounded great. Wished I’d held onto it did the same job you did clean up the controls. Bought newer Sony 5.1 box set , didn’t have the same sound , at the curb when I moved out. Of my fathers house, I regret leaving it along with my lps , Needed room for more “important “ stuff.

Gotta admire folk who keep the original stickers on stuff. Extreme example: I remember one of my friends after his parents had purchased a 28" Sony Trinitron - full NICAM digital stereo, Fastext, matching VCR - the works! Whenever I went round their house they still had the transparent orange 'It's A Sony' logo sticker (the one with the dots) stuck to the corner of the screen! This persisted for well over a year!

That's a real beaut! The dial string arrangement is very similar to the one in my Grundig Studio RPC350 music centre, very complex. The "string" on that though is actually 2 woven sheathed wires that powers the illuminated cursor & has never been quite right since I've had the thing! Even so I prefer it to a digital tuner.

I have a SA200 that was my first purchase of a receiver back in 78 when it came out. I use it for archiving vinyl and I have not turned it off for a good 18 years now. It stays on, but is only used for the preamp. What is your thoughts on leaving it on like this? Never had an issue with this machine but for a rectifier being replaced back in 82.

  • @alexispieltin9379

Just a beautiful mint receiver! These were still built to compete with Pioneer and others, with a decent analog tuner and a classic all discrete amp with no STK power module, no caloducts, just serious power and clean build. The only problem is perhaps the wires that are not specially cleanly arranged and the lack of shielding, but it's perhaps more technicaly easy to maintain and access that way. Great sound anyway, even with your neighborhood vacuuming noise... Just love to see others like these, where there is virtually nothing to do 40 years later. You say the filters caps are done, but I guess numbers are still fine (no stress?).

Just found a SA 5470 in almost as pristine condition as yours for $17 at a thrift store, along with a working Technics SL-1700 turntable that some idiot priced at $6 because the cartridge needle was broken off. None of those dark blue caps which tech's say are so crappy have failed on mine yet. Not sure about the veneer on yours but mine is definitely vinyl skin with fake wood veneer.

Way to go with the analog tuning dial,,,realigning the oscillation to tune station to the correct frequency number for the station broadcasting.
Might want to adjust the 2 fm sensitivity trimmers,,,while tuned into an fm station,,,and watch the signal strength meter reach it,s furthest point for the maximum strong signal,,then it probably will receive any station without the antenna connected.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  4 роки тому +5

Caps are fine. Esr was never an issue until switching power supplies. People think caps are the end all. Inexperienced a d unqualified start changing every cap because they don't understand the symptoms of bad caps. The old guys with decades of experience know that caps don't fail that often. They do occassionally go bad, but they were always in specific circuits like the bootstrap or ramp cap on vertical circuits or the odd main ac filter. In tube circuits the DC blocking caps (paper / wax caps) were common. But in big linear amps like this they very seldom fail and when they do you will hear it. No need to measure. These are such high values the esr tester won't measure it anyway. Once you get beyond about 4700uf it is pretty useless. Again the old timers know what I am talking about.

Why swapping the bulbs with LEDs when they ain't broken. I mean LED light is more efficient and stuff but hey, there's still no LED that has the nice red glow that incandescent lamps have if you like warm white light. I hope we'll get CRI >99 LEDs soon. I would prefer cold white, around 5500K. Would make it look modern vintage!
