I didn't say the graphics were good. I said the sense of scale was done best. In first person mode it really felt right. Now games go the third person route or the scale is too low.
@@oatlord EQ is also the only game I've played where the size disparity from race to race (and between mobs) makes the game that much more fantastic. I wish others would (pantheon) would take that page.
I played vanilla EQ and then ROK with my uncle who was deployed in Iraq so we could communicate without HUGE long distance phone bills so for me this idea is a nostalgic must have!
saw a ogre shaman in there called bearie manalow 😄 we love you Flatts. would enjoy your return to making videos, but would sacrifice that to just know youre having a good time wherever you are mate and that all is well, also that i heard recently in the Rivervale Gazette that the guards in highpass will etch your name and family crest outside Highkeep in honour of you, brother of the lost circle, hero of Cabilis, Flatts of Highkeep.
your comment really made me smile, thank you! I can confirm for you I am very well and having a good time with life. I currently have other commitments and hobbies that take my time up at this stage in my life. However, the brain worm that is everquest as well as this youtube channel are forever in the back of my mind. I do hope to return to these lands one day, when that day might be I cannot say.
the fact that I am basically blind at night is only one of the many little details which add depth and realism and challenge (and therefor fun ) to the game for me, and was one of the reasons that I fell in love with p1999.
Glad to see another Flatts video :D The lighting fix they did for nightblindness is one of my absolute favorite things they did. It feels scary to wander around and I want to stick close to my friends. Super easy to lose your bearing and who knows what you'll run in to.
Love that they brought back the classic nostalgia of this game. I started playing it just before Kunark was released and still play on live after a few breaks. Also thank you Flatts for the videos you have posted. They are fun to watch and its nice to see it when the game was so much simpler than it is now.
Have always loved your videos. Especially the Reptox series. I would love to see the unreleased footage and would also really love to see another character progression series on the Green Server! True legend! Thanks for all of the nostalgia over the years!
I understand some of the pain in your voice. Green sounds amazing, but it came at a time where i have a newborn and am finishing my MBA. EQ Classic was such a great game in ways that are too hard top explain.
I remember, on live server around Kunark age, I could click Donal's Vambraces to heal (buff valor) my target, while casting I could sit and med, and stand right before the heal lands. It was patched very soon, as somebody in group reported that. :(
Hey man, I love the video and I have a question for you. Will you be starting to release frequently again or less frequently like it is now. Anyway, I look forward to seeing more content
haven’t played blue in 7months, but just made me a green server character.. ok I made 2 lol. I got tempted to join back in all the fun. Great video btw, first I’ve seen by you and def subscribing!
Been watching these videos bringing back memories. I played EQ from start for several years. When I had to stop playing I took my 55 druid to nude and traveled to zones I never had been. I spent so much time in this game. I was working on my epic quest when I quit. Really thinking about playing again. Just don't know if I want to spend hours and hours kiting to just get one blue bar of experience and die to lose the experience when I cant find a cleric for a rez.
I was considering checking out EQ just for something new and interesting but that description at the end does not sound promising. I don’t need all the modern quality of life updates that modern games have but that just sounds like a little too much grinding for my taste.
@@Yomom12388 nah man, it isn't that bad. Usually finding a rez in higher levels isn't so bad. Clerics will offer up fee based services or you just grind through your losses. It's only a 10% xp loss from I recall.
Flatss your videos are on point.. They have helped me out immensely. I just rolled a Iksar shaman on blue cause green is just nuts right now. Ill hit you up in game if i see you.. Keep uo the good work man
Yeaaah man! Was wondering if you'd make one/looking forward to your video on this. Not an EQ player, never actually played anything but EQ2 briefly but I've watched all of your Reptox playthrough and have been enjoying your content greatly. I'm aussie as well so If I ever get around to trying it out I'll let you know.
Update: Been fucking LOVING my first week of EQ, currently in upper Guk with my lvl 11 Troll shaman, learning tons and it's pretty much solely all thanks to you Flatts, thanks heaps for getting me into it. Hope to see you about, shams name is Lonze on green.
@@FlaxeMusic Hahaha I love the update here. Speaks volumes about Flatts' influence on people and the quality of videos/content he provides. Glad you're enjoying the game and welcome to EQ!
I never played EQ, I was only 4 when it released but omg what an amazing game and community. I love these videos too. It makes me nostalgic for the early 2000s.
Good to see a semi new flatts video !!! LOL I'm glad some people can have time to play this game on a regular schedule LOL My job+family absorbs most of my time. Looking forward to retirement in 16 years lol. Love the p99 owners for their job and effort. Hope they implement the camp list feature on blue as well. One of the frustrating things for me was certain mobs where perma camped 24/7 by the same group of people and asking ridiculous amounts of plat for key items. If they plan to merge green and blue at the end of the patch cycle for green then why even bother to play on it. And that boxing rule LOL ..I seen multi boxers on blue afk camping / killing day and night . Good luck betting rid of those people on green. I wish they had a feature to either limit the amount of perma camping ..like once you complete your epic or loot something good you cant camp it for a certain amount of time..allowing other players to get a shot at it. I know other people will say no but ..seriously ..why do you need to break a static game economy by hoarding insane amounts of plat and bottleneck epics?? Good luck on green and blue ..until the owners address the perma-camping issue I don't think I will never play there again (unless I retire lol). Most players are awesome but there are certain rotten ones that just kills the experience like multi boxers killing everything on the zone and perma camping . And the owners hands off approach to these problems don't make these servers better than live IMO. Day break recently said on an interview that regular live EQ has a limited life of about another 10 years at least. That means that p99 on the long run will be the only option. And because of this I think the p99 owners need to bend the rules a bit of having a 100% pure classic EQ hands off approach on certain issues that actually kills the joy of EQ.
Could anyone recommend some kind of beginners guide? This game and especially this new server seems very interesting but alas I have no clue what so ever how to play this relic of a game, so any help would be appreciated!
what about halloween events and drops? also there was a single day where you could spawn as a MOB, which maybe never happened again? any chance of that?
Man, id love to try P99 again. But just cant capture that magic from when I played the original EQ back in 99. When your low level, its brutal. Almost impossible to find a group at low levels. Back in the day on the original, it was impossible for you not to find a group. When your soloing, its gets very boring with all the downtime and such. When youre in a group you can socialize to pass the time.
In theory you might get close to that experience by playing Green on launch. I imagine the server will be very populated at all hours during the initial Zerg that I am sure will last at least a month.
You won't get that experience, they have some shit "list system" where ppl have to sign up to kill a named mobs. That's totally not in the spirit of classic everquest, and they're raid system they force players to do is even more fuckin stupid. This should no be compared to the original dog eat dog EQ1 from 99-2002

Ted May thats pretty true to how it was in the beginning. 20 levels in a day was not an option. If you were persistent, you could pull off one or two. It took me the first two years of my EQ career to reach level 50. Granted there was much more to do, buying and selling was a lot more time consuming, socializing with people was way more prevalent, GM events happened from time to time, and we had no maps or any help at all other than maybe allakhazam which wasn’t around at first, so we did a lot more exploring. We were much more hesitant to go places and were much more careful when we knew that if we died, there was a very real possibility that it would take the rest of the night or into the next day to retrieve our corpses. It was much more slow paced, just like life in the early 1900s. Less technology = more exploring and fun. Overtime, everything became easier as maps and epic gear was handed to us in an blooming era of instant gratification. I may just be an aging elder millennial, but I probably speak for more than myself when I say, I miss the old days. Even playing with a 28-56k dialup connection through AOL when you could be thrown from the game if someone in your house picked up the phone accidentally and terminated your connection. It was all that more risky. Long live early mmorpgs. I played sierra’s The Realm as well since 1997 and although it is back up and running free to play, it just isn’t the same as it used to be.
@@Blazd247365 I played back in 1999 and I agree with everything you just said. The slow, deliberate pace of the game really immersed me, and made me very cautious about every movement I made, and every mob I started auto-attacking. I still have a binder full of EQAtlas maps I printed out, lol. It definitely felt more like an adventure than just about grinding for xp/plat. The pay-off for taking a really long time to level up made me feel EXCEPTIONALLY rewarded when I finally hit 51 and got a title to my class name :P

It was all you that made me play P99 and EQ for the first time man. Iksar Monk was my first character ever and it was incredible. I loved it and your videos so much. I really hope to see more content from you for green, and also to bump into you on that server. I live in Perth, so it's highly likely we will see each other, and I can't wait!
Seriously impressive effort by the devs. Even with a client and assets provided (though they are indeed still doing a good amount of client side development given all the changes and bugs etc in the official versions), most all the gameplay is server side and that stuff is the same amount of work either way. It's even impressive a paid dev team managed to do all this in the first place much less volunteers. Many others tried... and failed!
Luclin on blue in 6 months! What if it also has 100% level 60 content. And delayed access to the cat people as a player race as well as a delayed access to making beast-lords. Thereby encouraging people that are at the top end of the content go in and explore without taking away the classic leveling mold.
There is no game that got the sense of scale as good as ever quest. It felt so immersive in first person. Running through forest place felt so real.

Kinda neat that the 10th anniversary of P99 was also the 17th anniversary of me... becoming alive?
It would be cool but it's a given anything worthwhile will be permacamped
It was all you that made me play P99 and EQ for the first time man. Iksar Monk was my first character ever and it was incredible. I loved it and your videos so much. I really hope to see more content from you for green, and also to bump into you on that server. I live in Perth, so it's highly likely we will see each other, and I can't wait!
Did you have a toon on the Beta server called Sillyturtle? If so I saw your corpse in Qeynos Hills!
Sure did! Currently level 12 with enough bandit sashes to get me to 14
FUCK YES NEW FLATTS AND NEW EQ IT'S A HAPPY BIG FRIDAY
I'm Larae on green.
Happy Big Friday atprtsd
Miss your videos man glad to see you back!
How does one get this UI he is using? Can you use it on TLP servers?
Fire beetle eye doesn't seem so silly now eh? Lol. Hey yourself fire beetle eye.
New server coming in jan 2023?
I went back to live. Miss you all.
Many others tried... and failed!
420th like, don’t mind if I do
GreenGrocer!!!! Where are you???? lol
Luclin on blue in 6 months!
What if it also has 100% level 60 content. And delayed access to the cat people as a player race as well as a delayed access to making beast-lords. Thereby encouraging people that are at the top end of the content go in and explore without taking away the classic leveling mold.
I'm going to go show my Dad this video..He has been play live EQ for over 15 years now
Stoked you're making Green videos. We were just talking about you in North Qeynos. :) also, I'm stoked I made it into one of your vids.
