Yeah that’s why I always tell people it’s a lot more of a mental game. If you’re watching for big explosive plays all the time, it can definitely be boring. But watching a pitcher pick apart a batter and the absolute mental nutcases that are on the mound, it can be enjoyable for sure.
thats what i always explain to people who dont understand baseball: its a sport that if you dont know whats going on, it just looks slow and boring and dumb. other sports like soccer or football or hockey at least stuff is moving, people are bumping, etc. its interesting to just watch. Baseball, if you dont understand the chess game being played at every at-bat, it looks just lame.
I started watching Jomboy for the funny lip readings. I stayed for the breakdown of baseball knowledge/culture that can be seen in pretty much every video. I love baseball now, it is my favorite sport (I'm old). Go Mets!
Up until a few years ago, no pitcher would ever showcase his full arsenal the first time around the order. They would pace themselves for a nine inning start. Times have changed.
Between Jimmy and Trevor Bauer, I've learned so much about the meta game of the pitcher-batter duel. All that's missing is Shohei's perspective on how he approaches both sides of the plate and dominates from either direction.
Is throwing 2 balls at the same time a 2023 rule change? I'd imagine this is incredibly difficult for the batter and not sure what the fans think. Nice breakdown!
Umpire also has to watch two different pitch trajectories and factor in whether the batter swung at both balls or only one of them. That has to be difficult.
Mr. Jomboy, have you considered doing pitching breakdowns of some of the greats? Maddog.. Unit.. Pedro.. Freaky Franchise.. etc.. If you could go back even further, that would be awesome too, but not sure how much video there is of Koufax or Bob Gibson around.. maybe Fernando?? last guy that I can recall who threw a screwball with some regularity..
Part of what makes Jimmy’s breakdowns so good is the ubiquity of high-resolution cameras, multiple angles, and access to vast and meticulously catalogued databases of baseball plays. Those things have only been around so long. He couldn’t have done this job nearly as well as he does a mere 10 years ago.
@@bernier42 I get what you're saying, but have to disagree.. You just take the grainier footage, because that's all you have, and do with it what you can. You can still do overlays.. He didn't use multiple camera angles in this pitching breakdown.. Im talking about pitching specifically.. you don't need anything but the CF camera
@Hank Fairchild Pitching ninja doesn't really break down anything though. He just shows a pitch and says "that was nasty" and then 2 seconds later shows another pitch.
Some feedback: would be better to show the pitch normally first and then the pitches you want to compare overlayed. You even acknowledge it was hard to know with the second batter when he didn't swing on the slider, "it's overlayed, so you can't really tell". However, colored balls to indicate the pitch type is superb. If you continue using the same ball colors based on the pitch, long-time fans would be able to know the pitch without having you say it what it is! Thanks.
We need to get a batter to do a breakdown of what the batter is thinking during this type of sequencing so we can fully understand what each side is looking for and thinking.
My problem with pitching strategy is that it's only good if it works. If Correa had been looking for another fastball and hit that 2nd pitch out (which he certainly could have), it would be a bad pitch. But because he wasn't, it's suddenly a good pitch.
That's like an NBA team doubling ball handler while leaving a poor shooter open, and its a viable strategy if he misses the 3 like you planned, but could be seen as bad strategy if he drains it.
Imagine how this pitchers career would have wrongly tanked if the batter somehow cheated? Fortunately the pitcher looks good. How can you not be romantic about baseball.
These technical breakdowns are what made me get interested in baseball, having not realized how much mental strategy goes into the pitches before.
+1 I never realized how technical baseball was
Baseball is ALL mental strategy.
@@harshitgupta4860 the most technical sport by far

I love your pitch sequencing breakdowns. Learned so much from it, even as a lifelong baseball fan
When you think the breakdowns cant get any better they do! I love the highlight on the ball really emphasizes the movement.
I started watching Jomboy for the funny lip readings. I stayed for the breakdown of baseball knowledge/culture that can be seen in pretty much every video.

This really opens my eyes to pitching. As a casual, sometimes bored fan with bb. This makes me watch much for careful.
Amazing break down! This is why I watch highlights here instead of ESPN.
Jomboy is the reason I started watching baseball all the while I never played a game before in my life.
These are my favorite breakdowns by far. I love how smart players are and I love when you point it out for us ❤
We’re getting blessed with videos today, thanks Jomboy!
More pitch sequencing breakdowns please, love this strategic stuff!
The colour coding is appreciated, thank you! You didn’t have to do it but you did it for clarity, so thank you!
These breakdowns really show how much the ball moves and how much control the pitcher has over that movement.
You’ve opened my eyes to a meta in this game I never knew existed. Keep blowing my mind with these.

Big day for Jomboy uploads. I love it
Between Jimmy and Trevor Bauer, I've learned so much about the meta game of the pitcher-batter duel. All that's missing is Shohei's perspective on how he approaches both sides of the plate and dominates from either direction.
These types of videos are the reason why I watch Jomboy breakdowns
The addition of the colors on the ball - great detail. Really helps tracking.
PERFECT PICTH THEN PERFECT GAME
German is just like me on The Show frfr
so much content ! Jomboy been the 🐐💯
This is absolutely fantastic! Thanks again for another great breakdown
Is throwing 2 balls at the same time a 2023 rule change? I'd imagine this is incredibly difficult for the batter and not sure what the fans think. Nice breakdown!
You think it's hard for the batter? I bet it gives the catcher fits every time!
Umpire also has to watch two different pitch trajectories and factor in whether the batter swung at both balls or only one of them. That has to be difficult.
Triple stamping a double stamp, Lloyd.
Freaking fascinating breakdown! Thank you!
Good color sequencing for the different pitches Jomboy
At first I was like "was that ball red"? Then I learned why.
I love this stuff! The funny commentary is great but this pitching strategy analysis is true "inside baseball".
More videos like this. Love these!
Good job Domingo. I may comment on this video now because of that pitching sequence.
Bros changeup is nastier than school lunch
Love these breakdowns

@hankfairchild7951 I do watch, and like, pitchingninja, but I like JM's delivery and style a bit more

Amazing breakdown
I love the breakdowns that are about sequencing it’s just a shame it’s usually for Yankee games.
Fascinating. I have him on my fantasy team, and I would have had no idea all that happened. Great stuff.
awesome video!
I feel like I just watched this video through a kaleidoscope.
The run on that changeup is crazy!
More of these, please
And I may give a like to the channel.
"may enjoy it". Who are you kidding Jomboy, we all enjoy the hell out of it 😁
Can never be mad at a solid pitch sequence.. The wonderful chess match
I've got the notification bell on and I'm not getting any notifications.
That last changeup moved the whole plate omg
Love your videos
I like that you tint the balls on the overlays. Have you tried tinting each overlay differently to make the box less distracting?
I prefer these videos but I like the other variety of videos you make too
are we not gonna talk about domingo at 2:39
I did these exact some pitch sequences on two batters in a row when I pitched in little league.
The title in the video thumbnail fooled me, I thought you meant the German Keppler 😂

That last change up was nasty. Pedro had similar chageups that would appear to move dramatically relative to this camera angle too.
Thanks
I was looking for the game between Germany and Korea. How did I get here? Who are these teams?
That last change up was ridiculous and explains why he was told to wash his hands instead of ejected. The amount of spin on that
Awesome thumbnail text.
The overlay was tripping me out 😅

This dude and Noah Syndergaard be fucking me up in the show 23 lol
New to your ch. immediate subscribe! 😂
It's art.
Love pitch sequences. One of my favorite things in MLB The Show. Only I get pissed when the game is smarter than people in real life
your videos make me want to go to a baseball game.
LOL Love the end.
3 uploads in one day and 5 within the past 15 hours
whole lotta DAWGS at jomboy media
Thought we were doing World Baseball Classic again for a second.
Its insane that the pitcher doesnt look overlaid for a majority of the video.
That last change up was filthy
When did they get pink baseballs
One of these days I want a negative Yankees breakdown. Try to hide your bias for once jomboy
A master class
My problem with pitching strategy is that it's only good if it works. If Correa had been looking for another fastball and hit that 2nd pitch out (which he certainly could have), it would be a bad pitch. But because he wasn't, it's suddenly a good pitch.

Correa hasn’t spent much time watching a pitcher work a pitch sequence. Correa uses his ears instead.
Got em!
Jomboy out here snitching
Fastball command sets up everything
Why were they all wearing the number 42? Both batters and the pitcher?
Jackie Robinson day
Makes me wonder about Offensive Scripted Plays in American Football, would Andy Reid be a pitching coach?
The colored balls tech has been a game changer
Now do one about how he fooled his wife into thinking she was in a safe healthy relationship
Awesome
More Hockey Breakdowns!
So you’re saying it’s hard to hit when you don’t have a signal telling you what pitch it is? Fascinating.
Imagine how this pitchers career would have wrongly tanked if the batter somehow cheated? Fortunately the pitcher looks good. How can you not be romantic about baseball.
I love baseball
Red balls of fire
I thought you spelled Korea wrong.
You should see me in in MLB 23' not nearly as good as this... thats why we make games out of these people.. incredible stuff
I love this shit
Post Clevinger tipping pitches against the Blue Jays!
Another ridge discount like the one last month anytime soon? I’m in the market for a wallet 😂😂
Righty V Righty change-ups are lethal, and seldom used….
the people want a strider breakdown
Baseball is hard since they changed the Trash Can rule.
Carlos, hitting isn’t so easy when you don’t know which pitch is coming.
Funny
Boom goes the trash can
I feel like alot of these are pure Yankees breakdowns lol other pitchers have super good performances as well
Yes he is a Yankee fan and baseball fan. Kind of tough to watch 11 different games a night. I would stop paying him if I were you
You can pretty much make this same video everyday with a new pitcher each time!
I think german has good stuff just seems like when he gets shelled hes throwing everything right over the plate
Bro is coping so hard
is nobody gonna talk about the ball being orange or am i missing something.
I don't know how anyone ever gets a hit.
Watching Correa for six years, the whole league knows he can’t lay off them outside sliders
