I feel like I used to perpetuate tall poppy syndrome. Originally stems from jealousy because I wasn't secure in myself. I used to discount other peoples achievements, "ohh they did x but only because of y". I hope to think I'm not still like that, but it took me a long time to even notice it.

Totally agree bro. It’s not helpful at all and we need to fix it. Keep doing your best man, reach for the stars and ignore the people trying to bring you back down to their level.

I grew up in Perth Western Australia. I didn't realize how bad we are as Australians until I left for Dubai 15 years ago. I thought envy and hate was a normal thing until I moved to Dubai where everyone is so supportive and on the same journey. I'm now a millionaire and know the best decision I ever made was to leave Australia. At a deeper level Australians identity is based on the "aussie batler" or "jolly swagman". Stepping outside mediocrity is almost unaustralian and an insult to the cultural identity itself. It's a very strange identity we have. A very underdog culture. Which I think is also stems from socialist policies that punish anyone who works harder and earns more. There are however good sides to the aussie identity. They are very down to earth. Well that is until you are rich lol

First of all if someone wants to be something great that’s their BUSINESS AND THEY ARE DOING GREAT AT IT! It’s also a cultural thing for them-they aren’t used to seeing people shine! Just let people shine and do well! Who cares what others think. I’m sure it’s hurtful to not have support from others when there are visions and dreams you want to achieve but ITS YOHR LIFE DO WHAT YOU WANT! F-everyone else. What a sad mindset to have-really sad.

It’s been one of the most shocking realizations. I call it “You pay for being awesome.”
You, go, guy!!! Don’t ever stop. From another tall poppy.
I do have to say- I’m glad it has a name. It’s definitely noticeable for me. I thought people would like me more if I excelled. Quite the opposite.

I'm full australian and I hate australia after scott morrison and other crap that we have decided to struggle in
We have alot of good but we have heaps of shit too. Remember loving australia so much as a younger person. Things are flipped almost a 120 degree or more in 15 ish years?.
