- This has been years in the making. The first public-access Wavegarden Cove tech in Bristol, UK. Sure, there's a slab and the wave looks fun. But what does everyone think of it? More info here; magicseaweed.com/news/exclusi...

Be great to have something like this in the midlands, especially with the consistency of the waves helping beginners. Hell of a trek anywhere to learn to surf, which I’m trying to do well into my 50 something’s.
Keep putting in the hard work in the sea (saunton , westward ho! etc) surf fitness and agility are the only thing that will hold back us silver surfers not ability.
Giles Sinclair Cheers Giles. Was at Croyde a few weeks back. I’ll try Saunton.
"It's like a skate park for surfers" That pretty much sums it up perfectly! It'll never be the same as the ocean, but it's definitely good for practicing and tweaking your moves and just to hang out to have some fun with friends. Pretty cool I'd say 😎
And for people who dont live near a place where they can surf
realistic review. if you are just popping up and heading down the line you need the advanced setting. For anyone who actually surfs regularly just book the expert or advanced plus session. On the advanced setting we had 13 sets of about 20 waves each with 15 in the water each side of the pool - in an hour we had 4-5 sets in which we caught 2 waves making a total wave count of around 17/18 in 1hr - pretty good. They allow 18 surfers per side and its much busier in summer. Shortie was perfect in August but full rubber in winter. The advanced wave is an easy take off (sit close to the wall) and then it backs off making a cut back mandatory - we had to pump a little through this section. The mid section peaks up and is steep again but realistically on this setting no usable barrel and about waist high at best after the takeoff. My son had great fun - no hassling for waves.
Wow! Another new wave park technology comes to life. Good time to be a surfer 😎
I can't wait until this comes to Edinburgh. Despite living 10 mins from my local break, as a father of 3 working fulltime it's a struggle to get regular water time particularly over winter. Just to know every couple of weeks I can guarantee a solid session in some pretty good waves fills me with excitement. Worth what they are charging just for the sense of wellbeing it will give me if you ask me.
Out of all the wave Parks I've seen this one has some of the most realistic looking waves even the water color looks good
Can’t wait to try it out!
Nice to see some texture in the waves and such nice water.
when will these guys make an actual wave bigger than waist-high?
Going there in a couple of months, so pumped!!
This wave pool goes to 11. They are saving it for special occasions, when even 10 is just not enough.
wack a few mechanical sharks in there, keep the surfers moving between sets!
Nice! Will be visiting in April I reckon.
You’re forecasting might be wild but you make a good video so thumbs up from me
Longboards too? Finally, nice!!!
2:22 love this style
Looks great
From recent accounts you’re never going to get it on this setting. According to the wave garden blog they have chosen to turn it down because of punters overstating their ability. However, if you read the blog carefully you’ll also notice his point about the larger settings causing rips and disruption through the ‘intermediate’ (beginner, more like!) section. They are a business and need to avoid getting sued because of accidents and punters to keep coming back. Don’t expect to see it on the maximum setting very often.
God they're stupid. Who do we sue if we fuck ourselves up in the ocean? Or in the snow? I'm sure we could sign liability waivers or something, give us a proper 6ft slab dammit!!
Surfers have to sign a waiver
Money saving shit
The Brits are ripping! Well done!
Been ripping a long time mate!
Cant wait to go here
Can’t wait !! Session is booked
How much $$
@@dangacore 100 quid an hour, about $130USD.
Need to build one of these in Oceanside, CA. Stat. 🤙
That wave reminds me very much of the old Sebastian Inlet wedge wave at 1st. And 2nd. Points... small but fun looking, Kelly has a waves beat currently...
"Harry, you're a Surfer."
HardFlip Mike lol, awesome :D made me laugh
Pip Pip after a morning of pool surfing a nice cup of tea and crumpets hits the spot, Pip Pip.
very cool !!
Fun enough .
Definitely recommend going straight in for advanced plus and expert if you surf regularly, the normal advanced is fun but not quite enough
Cant wait to get in Brasil! JHSF acelera ai!
I just want them to up the settings 😂
Nice video ! Super sick , I am sure it will get much busy that this. I have seen people on FB asking; does anybody know if kayak will get any sessions surfing this wave ?
Warm Aloha from Hawaii!
These peasants wish they could be surfing pipeline or waimea bay right now instead of this nonsense 🤣
The Game has changed!
Show, vou me juntar com uns parças para fabricarmos uma tb!!
We have one in Melbourne and its pretty fun. Nothing beats the ocean though
Looks so damn small....
I was really hoping the tech would be advanced enough to pump out a proper 6 foot wave
@@MindSurf248 ALL TALK until we see it. if you're debuting something amazing show it amazing not weak knee to waist high.
@@joelcorral2475 yeah why would you not show its full potential? Makes me think it doesn't work at size.
Great shape. Shame all wave pools are kids sized waves . hopefully in my lifetime they make one thats bigger than waist high ripples
MAKE 1 IN MIAMI PLEASEEEE!!! TONS OF SURFERA AND TOURIST!!!!
I see you can set the power up and down. Please tell me it’s going to be set to max!! Otherwise a very well anticipated wave may have failed.. What is the default setting?
Yeah can they convert speed of those swells to wave period ❓
Example; (weak at first) was 9s then they turned up to 12s (and that looked more fun)
Honest review - the waves are good but for me they’re just not big enough to keep coming back and paying money for. I had fun today no doubt but they really should increase the settings which they can do, but won’t allow for now to the general public. Great facility, just need to up the settings!
Fun Fun Fun
so were some of those waves at full power/size?
Yes, for sure those little barrels were the max it can produce. "Lovely little wave".
You'd moan if you saw the facilities where I live; sod all! Local swimming pool for about 10,000 people. 😂
This is far from being the biggest waves, trust me. The Wave wants to release bigger waves little by little. I've tried the biggest and wow, that's power! 🤘🏽
@@nickrobinson7515 nowhere near full power. How donyou verify your statement?
@@mikelc6216 so you've tried it on the max setting have you,so where's the video? I'm sure A LOT would like to see it, because at the moment all it's selling it to is kids, it's a ripple at best to me, 2ft possibly..
hope it can be bigger...looks a bit slow
Cool
Where are the bodysurfers?
If you got the pay, we'll let you play. Are they going to heat the water too? Maybe some plastic palm trees........for ambiance.
Only in the UK can you fuck up a wave pool by making it predominantly ONSHORE!! DOH!!!
ay Torquay Boys Grammar school are going there rn. first school group lads
Is great. But no offense, when seeing the video it shows all the surfer waiting for the wave, it reminds me this artificial places where they have lots o fishes waiting to be fed
Where’s the roof.
This is Bristol.
Surf ranch is better but this has more variety. Both look sick
Obviously the surf ranch is better, it’s a project kelly slater was working on for years and years
Wave pool proper. Ey guv
Joseph King ear...you avan a lend mate?
You've won this surfer belt buckle and $500 cash! How are you going to spend your winnings?
Webbsmart I would ramp out some proper chop hops.😂 Iam use to right hand points. Santa Cruz ca. But moving to Texas. Going to give Waco a go. Where do you surf? Bath tub?
Joseph King hey mate, so I grew up about 10 mins drive from Bells Beach (Vicco Australia). I started surfing around 1984...but I haven’t done much surfing over the last couple of years. Some reasons is because I’m getting older and occasionally lose the ‘stoke’, but more because it’s getting very crowded down these parts, so if there were waves in a bath tub.....if it was long enough....I’d give it a go (this video definitely gets me excited again on surfing). But I can’t complain about crowds as there are plenty of other places in the world (e.g. the USA) that have a larger population than here. Which I’d like to add.....what are the people on this world thinking when they keep producing so many of them? Surely people’ realise that the earth is only so big......and having more people in one particular area means an increase in disagreements? (Surfing included of course). I’m not sure if you’re one of those ‘christian’ USA people that believe that someone (the invisible guy), is going to make everything better? But I’m a little scared of the pathway humans have taken.
Anyway, I’m guessing this is not the response you were after, but my response in short is.......I’m also from the land of rights (look it up on google), I’m also not a fan of chop hops, and I’m glad you can type the way some English pronounce. I love the accent of some over that way, and I hope you understood my attempt to mirror that.
All the best in chop hops, and may Mason Ho live a long and fulfil life as I think he is an inspiration!
Cheers!
Webbsmart you ever heard of a band called primus? They have a song called to many puppies. Pretty sure it's about over population. I am With you on that one. Friggin yobs need to pull out or play spit the wrinkle.😱😂 my billy is boiling time for a proper cup'a. Cheers big ears. Banjo Patterson. Rocks!
Future: Pull a ticket get inline . Welcome to Walmart I love you!
Wave isn't maxed, it gets way bigger.
oh yea? then why are they cranking it up for the pros?
So do they rent sit on top kayaks?
Dominick Taylor Stupid comment.
Looks very appealing and rip-able.
Have any bodyboarders tried it yet?
Someone plz bodysurf that!
Looks fun but what about cost? Costs me £1.50 to park and go surfing in the Sea.
Lurgs The costs are insane. I’m a pretty wealthy guy and I wouldn’t pay half what they are asking. £40 per hour is daylight robbery. Up to 1000 waves an hour coming through. Try £10 a friggin session. Once the first week hype dissipates I don’t see this lasting. How many parents are going to pay that for children. Complete dreamers.👎 Rip-off Britain yet again.
@@NaNa-wj8tw yeah but they gotta pay off the initial cost, of courtse its gonna be hectic
@@NaNa-wj8tw Not insane compared with many other sports. Karting - £60-80/hour. Cable wakeboarding, inc. kit hire, £30/hr. Indoor skydiving, £50 for two flights (variable),. It's less than your hourly rate (if you are indeed fairly wealthy)
@@JamesHughes65 Stay at home watching TV £0 per hour....Best least stressful option
@@bastogne315 You have neglected to take into account the cost of tissues.
yeah ok cool sweet epic. but how many people are you gonna have to share this with per session?
Josh Mills think it’s like 14 others in advanced take of and line up format kills it ticket booked
@@jamesbest9741 shoite seems like a lot of people for a very small area
@@joshuamills7633 agree, but I guess if they're constantly rolling through then it could be quite efficient - by the time the 14th person gets their wave then the first person has only just jumped back in the line-up after walking all the way back to the start? Eg if the period was 10sec constant then that's 6 waves a minute, meaning the 14th only has to wait 2min 20sec to catch their first, and that seems like a pretty quick turnaround for the first person to get back to catch their second... I guess we'll see
@@aussiepyro went other day, npt constant waves, just enough waves in set for group, then a way to long a wait for next set, less waves than surf Snowdonia and wave dissipates to quick compared to Snowdonia, was disappointed, Needs to be bigger and non stop waves and maybe a better wind direction for me to entertain it again, hope they sort things out
@@shauncartwright3950 Yeah right. That's a shame, but good to know.
Would expect more for something that's like £40 an hour
Apparently the construction costs were £30 million.
I wonder how long before we have surfers that have never surfed in the Ocean...
who wants waist high waves?
@@joelcorral2475 Me neither, but i can see this happening one day.
I love the way all the promo stuff and merch mirrors the usual focus on stand up surf marketing but at the wave it is 20% bodyboarders and rising.
I know this from going 1 bodyboarder when it started a session to 2-3. It is definitely worth having a go on a bodyboard, you only have to worry about trimming the line, go high or low, then the option of slowing down to get deep in the pocket.
You can get barreled at the wave, more so when your head is 30 cm from the surface of the water, worth a go for all the regulars
How much per wave?
Go on their websites, you'll find out. But if you're really that lazy it's £40 an hour
Which is the cost for day ?
100 quid an hour, about $130USD.
It’s £40 per hour
Little waves
Nice new park, I look forward to try next year. Seems very different from Surf Snowdonia that I tried in the past.. for those that have water but no waves, check out my jet board reviews, like jetsurf and efoil you can try it anywhere, not even needed waves
I actually hope surf parks never get above head high, imagine if you could just pay 50$ to surf a ten foot cloudbreak wave, no longer are perfect waves only found in those magical moments when conditions alone, I think it would remove allot of the mystique of surfing
Killing a lion in a cage isn't the same as killing a lion in the wild with your hands. Lol
ok boomer
this is a dumb question how much £££ for zero contract hours workers do we get a discount? or are we the riff raff
Heaps better than the one in Australia who are not even letting the public near it. Typical of Australia
Umm...no Australian one is heaps better especially 'The Beast' they're just making you wait for it as they should. Good things come to those who wait
Is there a Nazare tow in setting sending in 20 metre beasts For hellmen like me 😂😂
You wouldn’t be able to handle it lol
Why not put a roof on it
Yep.. No one wants to get wet.
@@bastogne315 English weather is shit at the best of times prick
my place Put a roof on your language...
Haha, what's with the booties? How colds the water?
I'm assuming as cold as the water in the sea at the time of the year? Would be a bit expensive to heat up such a big pool out in the open
Was bloody freezing
All depends on where you live, what your perspective is. From where I sit in central California it does not look like anything I would pay for. Every session I have had in the last 2 months had better waves than this pool.
Yes Tod, your incredibly lucky in regard to where you live!
@@5imonwillis no luck involved. I moved here for the waves. Does not matter. Someone in Bali probably thinks California waves suck. Like I said all about your perspective.
Yes true it can't replace a proper long period ocean wave with the right wind etc but what it does is offer the totally concentrated experience of super clean waves with none of the drawbacks - paddling out is a synch, no walls of whitewater to get out in the first place, you get 12-14+ superclean waves in an hour, knackered after, its great
@@daveystayn9284 yeah who am I kidding. If I lived near it I would try it for sure.
If you need some kids to make the waves look bigger, give us a call...
Oh, wait, there was green kid and orange arms kid. Both ripping. Who are they?
Way more waves than Slaters set up. Not as perfect though.
Ausgezeichnet

What is it’s carbon footprint? Must use insane power?!
Uses renewable energy & will be installing solar panels so they can go 'off grid'
And the other in snowdonia.....
)
6ft they reckon 😂😂😂
upsidedahead it’s like all wave pools they control how the waves produced. So idk probably get 6ft if they want
too funny
I’m an older Californian and I guess somewhat ignorant. I didn’t know there were that many English surfers.
Surfing is huge in UK. Im Scottish and started in the early 90s. Was a small scene then. Thousands of active surfers in my local area now. In South West England it's been a major part of their culture since the 60's. Hosted many QS events etc.
Delamthedestroyer , that’s great to hear, I’ll have to be more aware. No wonder surfing has made the 2020 Olympics! Good luck to the UK !
@@shepherdsknoll8 We will need it...
I started in 1974 and am still surfing every week and throughout the winter on the South Coast. Looking forward to my sessions booked at the wave next week :)
M Dale , great to hear. We were out all the time that year, our 2nd-3rd years of college. How is the water temp there, many rocks ?
Mouay. Boarf. Prout quoi.
🤮🤙🏾
I've seen bigger waves in a toilet.
sadly most of the time its only low tide
Too small.
It was very poor nothing like what we see in this video
Except skate parks are free
They also don't need as much maintenance apart from the occasional graffiti removal
So if you don't want to surf in toxic bacteria invested waters, you better pay!!! 😂
get a job
All of these people talk like they have taffy stuck in their mouth
To expensive one in north wales to no instructiins so advanced ride into beginners ment to leave the board life guards on phines missing waves
So far I think occys pool is the best.
Ha ha ... "Occy's'' pool . A Vegemite sandwich is about the limits of his construction ability .
@@cwegers3 yea it was only a proof of concept design, guess what? It worked....
@@Psilocybiant You trying to tell me it was Occy's concept ?
@@cwegers3 No but you know exactly what pool I'm talking about, what more do you want man?
@@Psilocybiant Yapoontang ? I'm not convinced . I like the idea of consecutive breaks , but from what I've seen , and I know nothing , a continual source of energy delivers more wave .
When people say “That Was So Much Fun” I always want to retort “So Much Fun that.....?” because “So” is such an inadequate adjective, leaving much descriptive vocabulary unused. Sighs an ageing lover of the burstingly colourful English langwidge.
"Too much fun"?
Carlos A Ramos S S Even your response is an improvement, but could still be followed by “too much fun that....my heart burst with the extra adrenaline....”.
Too small
crap version of the one in Melbourne... lame
I get bigger waves in my bath tub...
such a bummer it has to be tamed down.. "health and safety" i guess? not what we are looking for :) wanna get drained .
Anyone over 6' tall and 200lbs need not apply.
Way overpriced. If it was 10 or £15 and hour I’d be there twice a week but 35 an hour! Not even close to worth it
It's not surfing tho, call it something else when your there. Surfing is the connection between mother nature and you, feeling her power and riding that energy at a beach with a view of something better than concrete
I hate that the machine stole surfing and it's free ways. This is stupid there's waves in the ocean
