I feel compelled to add my kudos for your presentation, well done and Grade-A from a retired engineering college prof. I've watched countless reviews on digital 'scopes in an effort to decided which was best suited for my needs and within my budget. Your description of the X-U has pushed me over the top. I've opted for the Siglent SDS1202X-E, not exactly the X-U model you describe in this vid but I'm now convinced that I made the right choice.

X-E can be update/hacked to 200MHz and have 2xADC and also 2x memory. +WiFi support and control over LAN. For €80 more (price difference in Poland) I opted for X-E - no doubt! Yes, this is my first oscilloscope but I wanted to have something that will last longer. So I decided to get the best form this price tier. The next tier (2GSa/s and 10x more memory) is 2x more expensive and next (5GSa/s) 6-7x more expensive and so on ;). Thanks for the review!

Ca we we hack Siglent SDS1104X-U from 100Mhz to 200. What's the difference between E series & U

Wow! A review of an oscilloscope that is actually very well made! Thank you for this!

I think this is the 16th time that I watch this video....however, for the price difference, well I think that I still convince with the SDS1104X-E, mainly due to the 2 A/D converter, which I think will provide a better resolution. I think at the end, I believe the Siglent over the Rigol, gives you a better experience and resolution on the screen. However, I can tell you that if the Rigol were in black..hmmm another rooster would sing and the decision would be more difficult. Great videos!!!

SDS1104X-E has two A/D-converters at 1Gs/s, shared on channels 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 respectively, while this one has one 1Gs/s AD-converter. Not so bad really, as we mostly measure one single signal unless decoding. Using several channels at once is seldom in need for 1Gs/s for each channel. It's all up to what you want to spend, and what you need.

I think I would have more use use for a 2 channel and 1 function generator built in over a 4 channel and no function generator. Of course that's if you don't already have a function generator in your lab!

    • @uni-byte
      @uni-byte Рік тому

@@driversteve9345 It depends on use case. If you are working (hobby or otherwise) on microprocessor (or even microcontroller) controlled stuff you will use 4ch very, very often. In fact, I will frequently link two 4ch scopes together using the trigger out and external trigger inputs to get 8ch. In my world a 2ch scope is just a tease.

Great video, and let me tell you that the quality of the video, is super clear. One question, now that you had the experience to work with the Rigol and now with the Siglent, wich one you consider provide you a much better experience to work, I mean, which is more ergonomic and easy to use? Would you make a comparison video in the near future?

Seeing all the features is great, but I am more interested in the accuracy of the scope. How accurate is it at different frequencies? Does it make it to 100MHz without oo much attenuation? These are still relevant as this scope is still sold today
The electronics/hardware inside are quite different to the X-E model though. A lot more cost optimised. It's power supply is completely different also. I think they share shell and interface.

beautifull explanations and animations of the knobs and features like for example at 2:10
I like it a lot, the video, but the product is beyond any benefit for me right now - I simply do not understand how and where to use it cause I am not the engineer for such use cases ...
But I loved to watch your record speed of telling all the details, quirks and features.
You had a lot of topics on your script to deliver but I at least I could follow and understand most of it ...
And you have one nice behaviour cause if things are outstanding or extraordinary or complicated you know how to emphasize and to take a break and suddenly slow down the beats per minute, no words per minute.
I was always tought that you can not really understand all the guys from UK that are living outside Britain ... and the Scotts do not make it easy as I had to learn from the beginning, but MARILLION in their big years with FiSH made me learn ... also the first artist drinking in public from the beginning of the concert back in the golden 80s.
But I can not here the welsh dialect ... so I can not complain about the speed of your speech cause you get slow and very well emphasizing when you touch the important subjects. If I can relax while listening, things are serious.
If you are more in a hurry I have to focus ... or go back 30 seconds and in serious cases I use to slow the speed down, but not on your channel, more chinese or indians pretending they are speaking english - that english from outerspace.
BTW: I like the style and UI to use it but the manufacturer is missing a key point at least for sales cause the fonts and descriptions on those knobs are too small and you can not touch and zoom like on a smartphone.
This is a brand product for a pretty good amount of money, but usually people that buy such product for use at home, not for business, need to have the budget first before getting excited about the brand and the product and its feature .
People with excitement for brand and product, who love Siglent products and making, are rare nowadays and people with free budget at months end are even rarer, but ususally are guys with a lot of experience who had purchased more cheaper products before and finally jump on the brands wagon.
If Siglent wants to sell those units and these guys are older to have achieved things in life and have the money and willing to finally buy such product, but then such tiny fonts and descriptions DO NO LONGER WORK.
at 50+ age sight gets no longer better and these knobs and fonts and UI are far too tiny and on top noise is also something that those people would not like to buy.
Siglent should have a look for a product a bit bigger with space for right font sizes in the UI and of cause on the knobs.
Siglent must know the right size, cause they know how tall the brandname and productname have to be to be recogniced right.
If Siglnet knows that then it is easy to find the right font size and from there the right layout and design of the oscilloscope.
It is important for the sale of such units cause that is where the western manufacturers can excel easily but also loose on the battlegrund by ignoring all the people as target group that are 50 and above and that are willing to spend a final amount of money to get the right tools for the long and winding road of the second half of their life ... cause they think about getting just 1 final and getting that 1 right this time ... and noise and font sizes and fonts can make the huge difference between having sold a unit to a happy customer or having sold nothing than excuses and explanations. If all manufacturer are going the road to tiny displays and devices then there is the big opportunity for at least one competitor with a strong industrial design that get things right.
Good tools do not need to be small, cause check the evolution of smartphones or mobile phones: in the 90s they went the road for tiny and tinier until the battery life was too small and things evolved unless the touchscreen arrived and since then we reached what: 6 " as a bare Minimum nowadays, while the 6" phone of 2015 was called what?
What a nice "B R I C K" ! ... unless the people hold my Samsung Note 4 back then and got enlightened how easy to use and convenient the right size of fonts could be ...
All people become older but their sight is going away while the interest, budget and desire for a Siglent product grows, if they would avoid noise, tiny fonts on product and in the manul of cause ...

It would be also important to know, if all these functions are actually accurate or useful.

I have a question, why does Amplitude and Pick to Pick are equal? This messes me up in my lab because my Vpp is 20V and in my lab it ask for the Vp measured and the oscilloscope showed me 20V in Amplitude. I asked my prof and he told me to add Max in my measurements and whatever shows in there is the Vp measured I am looking for. I've learned from Sinusoidal that Amplitude is from 0 to Maximum for positive and 0 to Minimum for negative, some quizzes and exam I did was making Sine Wave equation and A = to Amplitude of the wave and from my own understanding half of Pick to Pick. I asked my prof about it but he didn't answer me. I hope someone can explain this to me . Thank YOU!

I am surprised that your oscilloscope shows one more menu item in the I/O settings: NET Interface LAN (at Runtime 20'30"). It is missing on my identical model SDS1104X-U. It has a network port, I can set an IP address, the scope responds to a ping on my network, but I don't see a web page ...

Question. Does a second channel work identically as 1st channel ?
Incant get my 2nd channel to read show signal same way as 1st channel. The trigger sensetivity only adjusts for channel 1.
