Thank you David. You are right, it helps a lot to have useful tools. I started by using the techniques (mostly Marty's) other restorers use. Now I have started to use tools in my shop that most restorers wouldn't have, like a milling machine or lathe. It's useful that I have these things, but not the sort of investment that makes sense for toy restoration, unless you already have them. 🔧
Wow! Your camera work and close ups are outstanding along with your maticulous attention to getting the right results. Really loved this restoration, simple but effective. Thank you for sharing
Thanks Martin. I find it is more interesting to see how things can go wrong, but not until I have shown how to make it look like everything went perfectly.
Hi Timo Happened across your video today and really liked it ! What a great little van. Wish my hobby shed had some of your gear in it. Just subscribed so I will certainly check out your other productions. All the best David
I am not 100% sure but I think they used Gun Blueing on the bases. It's a clear liquid that turns metal black within a few minutes of applying. You can buy that at good old CT too.
Ooo! Now that's good information, and it explains why my bases behave the way they do. It's interesting that the blueing reacts both to caustic soda and Evaporust, but is unaffected by paint stripper.
@@timosdinkydetailing gun blueing inhibits rust so it must combine chemically with the surface of the metal. Unlike paint which physically sits on the surface and makes a barrier against moisture.
@@jesterger And that's why, when I use paint stripper, it does nothing. When I use Evaporust, it seems as if the blueing lifts off as a layer. I will observe more closely the next time I am stripping a Dinky base. Learning is so cool.❄️
I think someone said the bases were done with gun blueing liquid. Love the videos. Dave 🇬🇧. Could I ask what size the O rings are that you use for the tyres 😎👍
@@reddave8628 Here are the same ones on Amazon USA. I hope that link works. make sure you choose the 15mm ones. I'm not sure if any other size fits any different Dinky model. I have so far only used these on the 40s style toys. www.amazon.com/uxcell-Rings-Nitrile-Rubber-Diameter/dp/B07DLPDMQ6/ref=sr_1_1?
Wonderful result. It's interesting to observe how a well equipped workshop (as well as your skills of course) aids and improves the restoration.

Thanks Pops. I like your avatar, I have that Heavy Ford Tow Truck. A beautiful model. Mine has two broken off pully blocks. Needs some care, one day.

Yes. It's gun blueing, as mentioned by somebody else as well. Maybe that's another thing I could try. 🤔
@@timosdinkydetailing I'm wanting to try it myself. Did you have the O ring size. I'm sick of paying silly money for tyres for my restos 👍
