Watch some of Singapore's family-run food businesses, on On The Red Dot: cna.asia/2vStklp
About the series:
On the Red Dot goes behind the scenes to reveal the lives of 4 beloved family food businesses in Singapore. They’ve pushed through adversity to pass the reins over to the next generation. But will their personality conflicts be too great to overcome, this time around ? Shot over 2 months, this brand new series reveals the struggle to keep their legacy alive.
Jyothi is a model in every way! Her work ethic, respect, attitude and resilience are impressive! When I see Singaporean children I am amazed! I have resided in 5 countries, but Singapore is outstanding!
How come nobody here is appreciating how much Jyothi gave up on her dreams to keep her dad's dream alive
Restaurant earns better than mass communication
Thats bad actually
Indian families are used to only the daughter sacrificing in all aspects. not just her dreams, once she gets married the onus is on her to keep the relationship alive against all odds. so she is the only one to compromise. nobody will even bat an eyelid for her .
People who are NOT highly-motivated individuals probably can't comprehend the pain of having to give up their dreams to sacrifice for their family.
@@buddhapiyao1315What nonsense. She had to help her father as the eldest. Even if she's born a man, she would have done the same thing as a son.
Long time ago, she probably married off and serve her husband. No opinion in running her family business.
Awesome Indian family. I hope it continues to do well.
You have any job plz tell me sir

Still doing well :) went to eat there a week ago
They are Tamizh..
these people make up the fabric of what singapore is all about. Proud to be Singaporean!
Mr Mahendran reminds me of my dad 😢 Appreciate your parents when they are still around guys 💗
Nave Rajan so sorry for your loss
I mean no ill intention but Veera needs to look after his health. No point having millions in the bank but having poor health. Please take active steps to get into better shape.
Pana Sonic his healthy can’t you see em working? You made you eatting shyt curry 🍛? 😂😂
People these days don't know how to reply good comments
@@xMallNinjax1 you must be fat yourself.
He has to taste the food before serving it
Stupid dog @xMallNinjax1 go home kid
I love how they are speaking Tamil and I can understand them and laugh😂
Same..hehe
Lmao when he started complaining in Tamil I was dying😂
How humble they are... Simplicity at best.
This is an amazing display of commitment, drive and a deep desire to succeed, no matter what struggle or opstacles that are in their way. A relative of mine, who worked in Singapore, used to tell me about Samy's. It's almost an institution, or possibly, a bonified one!
1:06 😂 felt like he was threatening "you'll lose me if you air-conditioned the place".
Still quite a success story from a road side stall to a very beautiful fancy restaurant.
many children from big shop and big restaurant must take over the business in very young age.
why not make a open air area and an ac area ?
yolodgaf They already have that
yolodgaf I m actually for an open air person and I m an ardent fan for banana leaf meals.....
hv an ac area for.customers who prefer it.....
in business politeness and courtesy come first and this fmlys success is frm their friendly attitude towards their customers......All d best to u Uncle Samy and fmly.....
btw....all d dishes look.super yummy!!!
Actually, having the air conditioned will add a lot of extra expenses. Maintaining an air conditioned room from morning till night everyday will be very expensive. Most restaurants will need to make the menus pricier afterwards to cover the costs, and that may result in loss of customers who are accustomed to the cheaper price.
yolodgaf .....hello,are you trying to run their business too?
“You do more soul searching and then come back to me “😂😭😂 “I’m against it “
If he is not strict, he wouldn't be where he is today
Thats fax bruh
Younger brother has the the most glorious tummy.. it's huge like Peter Griffin
This was so cute, heartwarming and lovely! Part 2 and 3, 4, 5..... Please!!
Reminds me of my dad. Love you guys.
Gotta love Singapore 🇸🇬
Good siblings. Very respectful to elders.
jyoti save your brother...
Their father is great 👍
I think the siblings better lost some weight so they can take care of the business for a long time and avoid diabetic issus so it wont affect their bussiness 💕💕💕💕
Park kymal lol
Yeah. Obesity is the main cause for diabetes.
Garyathry Chandra that's a good thought! But i don't think you should mind my comment also, i'm just giving advice within this comment section. It's healthier to control your body weight my friend :) it's on higher risk of getting sick :)
Rajvinder Singh why? Why are you laughing?
So what? Obesity is a problem and people who are obese need to cut down on eating and start dieting and exercising. Plus obesity DO lead to a high chance of heart related diseases
thabks for uploading.good video. I have more experience watching this
if i ever visited singapore, im sure to visit that restaurant
Me and my friends used to visit this place a lot. Love the food here😀
I love South Indian culture😊
me too
Great to see people happily eating good food! Keep it up!!
I was there in my recent trip in Singapore on my last day. I had a chat with Mr Samy and his daughter and it was wonderful - they are a great team, and I look forward to visit, especially since Mr Samy and I had a good chat.
I clicked on this by accident but I was shook when I realised they were speaking Tamil - my first language haha
Whats so shocking? 9% of Singapore citizens are tamils. Like myself , im a fourth generation Singaporean tamil
@@XerrosNightscar are there any non Tamil Indian Singaporean?
@@thegodofwar1052 There are but very few .Most indians who settled in Singapore in the late 1800s were ethnic tamils .
@@XerrosNightscar seems like Tamils are global
With air conditioner install, the price on a plate of curry fish also go up to off set the increased electricity cost, bad idea unless you prefer to swallon the cost alone, not pass on to customers.
Love this family enterprise ...!!
Jyoti and Veera I am proud of u .
eldest daughters are truly so powerful
Amazing.,Maybe I will visit your shop soon with my family members🙏🏼☺️
leave it in classic condition with more fan i will visit you guys soon insyallah many wishes and blessings from hk
what a good daughter he has.. even if her father doesnt agree with their decisions, they give in because hes their father. they respect. thats love.
Thumbs up for my Singapore’s heritage foods.👍🏻
Can’t lie I would love to be given a successful business to run at 20 although It would be hard
really marvelling this man.....
NO AIR CON! you guys are good as it is. leave the small room for those who don't want fresh air, a nice view and authenticity.
They all sound like good souls
Have a separate AC room, can charge an additional fee for the AC room. Appreciate that daughter respects daddy and his decision!
Very honest programme.
really love traditional restaurants with big size cold drinks
excellent family unit much respect
This is such a wholesome restaurant
Yes they speak tamil
Go on.. Rock the world.. My best wishes are with you!
Your father decidd evrythng perfectly so stil evrythng going great Sister!
4:22 love the philosophy!
actually many big traditional hotels in south india nowadays have an AC and non-AC section, with the AC being slightly more costlier: that way you cater to both crowds!
OMG !!! Believe it or not I am a foodie and a catering chef in Kuala Lumpur. I quickly clicked the dislike button when I saw the boss shouted and knock on the staff head. But after I watched the whole video I changed my mind and clicked liked . The reason is I greatly respect the father who is although is a heart patient he is back in action and the children's are so supportive towards their dad. And when you see the father tasting the dishes prepared at home and giving his piece of advice . Man you are great and I appreciate the passion you have towards what your late father handed over to you and your legacy continues. I pray to Al Mighty to grant him and his children to all his blessing.
s siba actually he shouted his son friendly...
I think he was joking about knocking the guy in the head. You could see him have a little laugh straight after
s siba ....wealth n blessing,come on!
Good luck guys.
The food looking very nice and delicious..should try.
What lovely children.
this place is awesome :D
These are the real Singaporeans.Struggled from ground zero and built our life here.
This guy is Amazing.
The taste of the food here is really good.
Best wishes, Tamil guy from uk
Love the dad much luv from sweden
வாழ்த்துகள்!!!
Love this place.
Very good content
Mr mahendran has gone thru the knocks of life that is why he is able to give birth to such a famous restaurant samy curry. The children have a lot to learn from their father.
Keeping up with Samys Curry? I would rather watch this!!
K
Yes
I’ve ate there before,
their food is so delicious!
Vry lovely vedio...so nice
Good to see....keep it up
Proverb: Health is Wealth
Fish head curry in this restaurant is the best I had!
Such a nice dealing wid people
Thats Nice To Know
AIYOH
ME : ❤️
Please retain the rustic charm and the authenticity of the place. Not everything needs to go to the air-conditioned way. Install more fans, make it less warm, manage fumes and heat from your kitchen so that it makes the place less stuffy and warm.
If you have air-con, it cools the fish head curry very quickly. Not a good idea as it changes the taste and flavour of your dish. Food is your restaurant's blood and soul. I hope you realise that you have a very good loyal following of customers and you do not have to worry about the younger crowd as long as your food is good and you continue to innovate your food. Innovate food to capture the younger crowd.
Do watch Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares (UK version) and you will realise similar gems of wisdom
I must try this restaurant
Long live Tamil culture!!!!
Respect!!!
I love South Indian & food also.🇮🇳🙏
I am from the younger generation and I do prefer how it is cos if they install air con my parents n grandparents wont feel comfortable dinning there. That area already alot of fancy restaurants.
Don't forget the cost of air con will always be paid by customers in the end.
Smart lady, save your brother...
The intro got me dying 🤣
Looks delicious... I must try this place when visiting Singapore. But just out of genuine concern, the siblings need to lose weight. Stop eating carbs and sugars on a daily basis, once a week should be ok
Hi friend, their food is really nice. Do try their Mutton Mysore. You wont regret.
Roh G I sure will... thanks
Farouq Omaro ...if you are worried about carbo n sweets but not ghee n fat, this is the place for you!
Its not because of sugars, carbs should be blamed.
Tamil people are less fond of sweets.
Satyavani Vankayala ...Maybe blame it on gluttony?
Inspiring
Dont use air condition.. people like me know after that the price going to change
As a Tamil kid but in the UK there isnt a proper Tamil restaurant then saravana bhavans but hey next holiday its singapore and destination is samy's
Lol you must be one of those refugees from SL. But if you want good Tamil food, Malaysia has more choices than Singapore, cheaper and more variety too.
@@bonhamcarter4488 you are right!!! 😘. Most things & places in singapore are standard. Very boring.
oh better yet your own homeland
lol exactly what i was thinking
Leave it as it is ❤🎉
Was here last week with mark wiens!they have air-conditioned room half now!! Its the best curry!!
True legend
Wow, good to see that many staffs are still working there as it was my regular joint. In the past his nephew was also helping to run the restaurant but left, to set up his own at one of the streets
( Verasamy Road ? ) in Little India.
Loved their masala chicken, fried fish cutlet snd fried mutton.
I hope the brother is keeping healthy.
why video so short? Make a part two!
shamzambada ....I’ll make you producer n director of the second part!
I go here alot and the food is very nice
Love you guy's ❤️❤️❤️

Your Father is correct, customers loves sweat out with curry meals. Experiences is the winner.
