white priviledge? lol there is no such thing anymore. There is education, skill, knowledge, nepotism, and economic privilege. Putting things to race is highly inaccurate at this point in time so let's be honest. i am far more privileged than some white guy who isn't as rich as my family or as educated as me.

@@KAIZORIANEMPIRE It is nice that you have not experienced any hold back being a black person in a world that favors white people.
It is great that you have not been searched whist a fellow white friend or colleague has not been followed or searched in a shop. That you've not been asked to keep your hair professional when you have decided to go to work/ school with your natural hair just the way it grows out of your hair like white classmates/ colleagues do.
I am happy for you that in your profession you've never been second guesse, or that a client refused service/ treatment from you because of your race.
You are privileged that you are not like the majority of black people who are busy fighting for resources, proper education, running water, who have to express themselves in English for job Interviews, are seen as unintelligent when they cannot articulate themselves well In English in an African country.
What about moving to a predominantly white area and receiving hostility from white neighbours or getting police called on you? If you have never experienced that you are very lucky and I wish you the best in life.

Her comment on not ever being able to date an Afrikaans dude coz she's gone black,I wondered if deep down she wishes otherwise. I lived in a small town in Manchester and was surrounded by white people,I went to all white multiracial schools, was engaged to a white man...but whenever i saw a black face...I used to feel happy and almost like a sense of home. I'm not racist, but I've grown to understand that self preservation is inherent & it's ok to own it . All in all,I dowish her all the best,& glad that she chose herself first!

@@amandamakhoba1314 there is nothing wrong with that i have worked in all white towns with no issues but so elated if i saw a black man or person got pretty happy with the usual nods of heads for approval you do not even have to talk, there is nothing wrong i believe in feeling your crowd or herd but everything wrong by being labelled racist just because you identify with your race despite you how you choose to interact, She is confident in her position and there is no need to push to have a strong position, I clearly get what she means when she says in not a thing... its a loaded statement to anyone with a keen ear, and we cant deny what her experience is and how she sees her world what she chooses to say or not say, she has also pointed its an issue she has never discussed with family.... probably sometimes some things are better left alone if no one has confronted you or left you alone as long as you are happy to live your life. i wish her the best too its never going to be easy taking flake from both sides

In this regard I think Lebo chocked her by claiming to know other Afrikaaners who are open minded. No matter how Lebo can interact with whites, she can't match her. There's always something Lebo won't get from these people because of her being a public figure.
On the other hand, Kasi is one of them and has experience of what she be saying. Lebo has to broaden her horizons too.

We very much relate much to your experience. It is SOO sad that this is happening in 2021, thought society would be accepting now. I'm black, my wife's white, we were married in 2003. We always felt safe and accepted EKasi and were viewed as a symbol of hope for the new South Africa. We faced so much hostility in white neighbourhoods, we were an offence to white people, in restaurants we would experience white people in the next table not enjoying their meal because of our presence. We have two beautiful daughters 10 and 8, my wife gets comments like "How nice of you to adopt black kids" to which she would respond and embarrass the person passing that comment. Once in a while we do have "The talk" with our kids just to prepare them for the real world the we sadly live in. Proud of you girl! just live your life, whoever has a problem, it is their problem not yours.

What I've picked up from this conversation is that dating outside one's race is deemed as either an "upgrade" or a "downgrade" in terms of social class, and/or creed.
Separation from family, based on the ethnicity of one's romantic partner suggests that racism is so deeply entrenched in certain families that it is actually part of their culture.
Once something becomes part of one's culture, it is almost impossible to dismantle or remove.
I don't think racism will ever end, so long as those that benefit from it, economically and otherwise, fail to remove it from their belief system altogether.

    • @Algimantaz

Its just basic human psychology. In order to survive in ancient times, people needed to stick very tightly together with their group to survive. To know who is your group means to know who is NOT your group; and this is an aspect of human psychology that will never change, just like our need to gossip, socialize, compete, or have sex. Its instinct to separate yourself and ur family from the others; wether its based on race, tribe, class, whatever, people will always find a way to group themselves together and others apart. U cant have the good of humanity without the ugly, because its only in contrast to the ugly that we know what beauty is.

Very interesting interview. I am similar but not from South Africa, I've been here since 2015, but have still experienced and still am experiencing some of these same things. As someone who was raised in the black and indian community and have had very few white friends, we are all equal..... As long as we choose to see it that way. Relebogile, I would love to have a chat with you sometime about all this and hear your side as well.

@@lifeofdtw9694 we cant just ignore the black experience just because white people want us to so they can feel better about the way they have treated us and still do. white people have taken NO accountability for what they have done and how they still benefit and its actually insulting to keep asking black people to turn a blind eye while they continue to be oppressive. these imaginary grey areas that white people want us to live in ...or rather the farce they want us to buy into is just so disrespectful. This woman speaks so boldly about being the space to be herself ( whatever that means) ...BLACK people afforded her that. lets remember that. Also the space to be herself ...its such a confusing statement...you can not be a part of a culture and not understand the experience of that culture. I dont fall for these weak narratives.

Relebogile, I admire your insane interview skills. Sharp questions, even helping your guest to bring out her view, but always leaving her feeling respected and heard. Respect sis!
DJ Kasi, I admire your strength and power to fight for what you believe in. And by doing so, creating a hopefully more tolerant society for your daughter to live in. Keep that open mind, learn more about privileges but above all, thank you for showing everyone how to live with an open heart. Much love to you, your husband and gorgeous girl.

My opinion is before watching this video when you love a culture a race or religion you don't have to emulate or appropriate a culture, race or religion. You can still show up as yourself and be yourself entirely casing point Rachel Kolisi. Maybe her in her past she was a black person and she's just living what she feels deep down inside and that is her true authentic self.
