I have herd that Kanami the lead guitar was a child prodigy. She started playing and composing on the piano at the age of 5.
I've said this before on other channels, but this is the best rock instrumental I have heard in over 50 years.

This was my first Band Maid song. Listened to it like 3-4 times in a row, been hooked ever since.
Now imagine them playing this live in front of you ... Even their better live videos don't totally prepare you to their amazing concerts. Saw them less than one year ago and my dearest wish is to see them again!
I think this is probably my 100th time watching Onset official live videos and reaction videos. Everytime I watch this, it gives me goosebumps (this is how much I love this instrumental masterpiece)
So agree with you. Mind blowing and what a live band!!. Had just the same reaction as you, could not believe what I saw and heard. There are no weak link in that band. Hi skilled everyone and tribute to the sound and performance with their own personality and "tweaks". It so detailed and advance with a pace from Akane that is breath taking. This is my favourite band for the moment and I`m born up with Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin and all those dinosaurs. I`m so glad to have discovered these girls which in my opinion bring the heritage of the old rock school forward and renew it..last but not least..I get happy when I hear them.

This is Kanami at her best music writing, the band at its best with the arrangement, and their superb musicianship.
As to the other bands, they are dependent on studio "tricks"". The use of session musicians, autotune, skilled audio engineers, and producers. We audience let them get away with because "their cool". Asian groups/bands are taught/trained to perform live in front of very discerning audiences who have high expectations. That why you are hearing what you're hearing from Band-Maid.

I think Band Maid is also learning to break free from "certain cultural chains," as well. They want to bring raw skill to the stage while being genuine about who they want to be. Many of their earlier writings were rejected from their first record label, instead playing songs that they didn't write themselves. Although I am sure they were grateful for the initial success, they have a lot more control over their music on their last few albums and it really shows.

One thing that's amazing about this song is that it was written purely to give the singer a break during live shows. There's no studio version on any album or single. How many songs does Band Maid play in show 20 , 26 ? All I know is you get moneys worth and then some. This is a must see concert .
I had just run across the girls a couple days prior, watched every last official video on their channel multiple times, made my first iTunes purchase EVER (and first money spent on new music in DECADES) when I called up a friend of mine who had played guitar professionally in Japan back in the 90s. "Dude, I just found THE MOST AMAZING Japanese band! and they're all girls! and all dressed up li...." "Oh, you found Band-Maid, here, let me send you a link" ONSET. I swore I had no idea it could get any more amazing than what I had already listened to.
I know exactly what you mean. I hadn't bought new music since queen were in their prime. Found band maid and bought their three full albums through amazon.uk , sent off to Tokyo for the live concert blu ray.

This song introduced me in band maid world. I was shocked when i heard this one for the first time.
For me it s the essential of rock in that opus.
That s rock, that s groove, no break time, all instruments are in the zone, Misa bass is so great, Hakane drums is so good a'd both guitare are ridiculous good. All sounds so good. 20/20.
Next step for me, it s to see and hear Miku, the rythm guitare do a solo on instru like that.
After that i think it ll be perfect.

Like honestly these ladies are my favorite band, have been for over a year now. But to me the best thing about them, isnt their amazing musicianship, catchy as f*** riffs, beautiful stage presentation and sound, it's just how much damn fun they all seem to be having when they play. Akane is just always smiling and making cute faces all show long, Kanami loses herself in her playing and it's beautiful to watch, Misa quietly dominating the show like the assassin she is, Miku just high on life jumping around like the little pigeon she is, and last but definitely not least, Saiki's ability to command that stage and audience, and keep every single person in that crowd hanging on to her every word. Nothing even compares to these ladies, they are miles ahead of any current rock band out there, and hope to see them start playing more international tours when life stops being so shitty.

Unsung hero-- and my favorite in this song-- is Miku. Kanami is riding with Joe Satriani and the Silver Surfer. MISA and A-Chan driving a Ferrari down the curviest road out there. And Miku ties it all together. That down scale...
This is seriously awesome... What an insanely talented group of ladies... After listening to some of their songs, is it just me, but I keep getting Dance Gavin Dance vibes. That bit when the guitars go dit dulitidit dit dulitidut... or something like that... Sounds like a bit from Stroke God Millionaire.

I stand by my "No Regrets" comment from the Domination video :) Next up I suggest "Play" live or "Dice" the regular video. Misa is my personal bass goddess. Every time I hear her, I feel like I need to pick up my bass and play! She's SO good!

Aah nice, 'Onset', also known as Saiki's pee break, haha. Every time I listen to this song, it's like it puts me in a trance. No other band can come close to the feelings Band Maid is able to give me.
If you look really close at Misa's bass solo you can see that she's switching between the pick and her fingers seamlessly. She just tucks it in her hand and goes at it and all that while playin' a solo. It's absolutely ridiculous. I really hope 'Play' live is high up on your list, I have the feeling it will blow you away. That's what it did to me at least, but you got so much more to see man, can't wait for the next one!

So short? This is why the girls remind me of the Fab Four. Hard working band. Make show. Just give you enough. Too short? If you want to hear more, you put their songs on repeat. This is what the best do. Ego? Yes. The ego that makes them do their best for their audience, and clearly they’re over the moon doing that. Talent, creativity, years of hard work, and total respect for the audience. As a lifelong Beatles fan come very late to these girls, I use the word ‘Fab’ meaning exactly what I say.

Consider this: Kanami lead guitar classically trained pianist. Misa, bass classically trained pianist. Akane, drums classical trombone., guitar then drums, Miku some time as singer in Japanese idol programme, Saiki independent singer. They are all highly talented, highly trained musicians with a typical Japanese work ethic - they work much harder than western groups and are generally much higher qualified. That's why they are better live and don't need all the studio tricks. They' re the best rock band in the world bar none.

Yeah! There really must be something in the water in Japan. Not only the Rock/Metal bands with japanese dudes are great but the ladies there rock hard too. And there are tons of bands/musicians full of talent there.

This is Band Maid's idea of a filler. Just done to give Saiki a vocal break in the show! I've seen other bands pad out 1/2 their sets with filler that sucks really bad, dotting a few hits in between shit. Band Maid's filler is all killer!!!!!😁

They usually give her a pretty decent 15+ minute break, as it's common to follow the instrumental with Kobato-time/omajinai-time and then either TIME or Rock in me, which Miku sings. At that point, Saiki is ready to kick ass for the rest of the show!

I’ve seen a lot I mean a lot of live bands big name bands . None of them could touch Thier talent . That Miku she is coming along she’s amazing at ruthenium guitar . She has only been playing for 7 years .
Can you believe it's just a filler instrumental so Saiki can get a break during concerts? If it was any other band in the world, they'd be using the riffs for the main song of an album. BTW they also have 2 more killer instrumentals.

I really like Lovebites' playing. Not a fan of the exaggerated vibrato the singer does (and that quite a few others do as well).
They are a hell of a band though. Lzzy Hale thinks so too, and invited them to do some concerts with Halestorm (done). And is ready to do more together.
