      Canon filed a patent application for a global shutter a few years ago. I was actually surprised there wasn’t a global shutter in the R1. I guess the technology isn’t ready yet.

      Everyone thinks a global shutter is a panacea but it comes with its own compromises which is why it’s not yet widely used.

    Great detailed discussion Vasko, enjoyed watching brother! I just got a new to me R5, knowing that the R5 II would soon be released. I shoot mainly landscapes and wildlife, a wedding or two, and a senior portrait session now and again. I'm pretty happy with my R5's performance so far. I highly doubt I'll be upgrading any time soon. What say you? 💜

    • @vaskoobscura_

      The R5 is fantastic and to be honest it's more camera than most people need. The only reason i'm upgrading to the R5 Mark II is because of UA-cam. People want to see videos about the camera and I want to grow my channel, but to be honest if I wasn't on UA-cam I would have just bought a second R5 body and waited for the R5 Mark III in July 2028.

    So for the resolution upscaling... I personally use Topaz Labs's Gigapixel which is amazing so i doubt I'll be using the in-camera version (but there's a big IF and that's if I'm out and about and need to upload a picture fast and don't have time to bring it home to edit). But for resolution upscaling where it would be useful is if you want to crop down an image and then upscale it because you lost so much of the image. So I can imagine I'm at a concert and I don't have enough reach with my lens. I upscale it, transfer it to my phone, and then crop down so that maybe Taylor Swift can fill the frame and then post to social media.

    • @vaskoobscura_
      @vaskoobscura_  Місяць тому

      That makes sense. I'm sure a lot of people will do that. Ultimately it comes down to the quality of the upscale. Fingers crossed hopefully it looks good. Thanks for the comment.

    Hi V! I’ve been using my new-to-me R5 for a while now. I’ve shot a wedding and the reception, and recently my first bridal shower (which was, in all honesty, quite boring). I knew the R5 Mk II was soon to be released before deciding to go ahead with purchasing the R5. I have no regrets. But I don’t rely on photography for income so I can’t really say if the Mk II would be better for the full time working photographer if they already have the R5. What say you? 👍🏼👍🏼💜👍🏼👍🏼

      Hey appreciate the comment. As of right now I haven't had the R5 mk II for 24 hours yet. Initial impressions are good but i'll need more time to get to know the quirks of the camera before I can say anything with certainty. It's going to be hard to top the R5 because it's such a good camera. In a month i'll make a detailed video comparing the R5 and R5mkII and i'll have a solid answer for you :)

      IMO they should have done what Sony did. Sony has the option to use CF Express cards or SD cards in both slots. Therefore you are not depending on the sd card speed if you're using redundancy reading with the cf and sd card. No matter how you look at it, you will have a bottleneck issues with the sd card. Again just my opinion.

    My R5 2 is amazing however to be a real hybrid it needs Shutter Angle. Clog 2 DR is 1 stop shy of the C70 however the trade off is the Buttery 8K video wow. Readout speed is faster than the R5 and faster than the C70. I am thinking it is a little shy over 6ms. The EVF is BIG but still cannot compare the EVF of my GFX 100 II in resolution. I have not tried IBIS. Autofocus is STICKY and these test were on my Sigma 85ef and Canon 35 1.4 L ef so the RF lenses will be even better.
    I want to use a vmount on my R5mk2 but I am not sure about the PD. This camera is a lowlight monster compared to the R5. The DJI Focus Pro works great with it too

    You correctly said it several times . . . "sports and action" "sports and action" "sports and action." It seems Canon has hit a homerun for the sports and action photographer! But I'm not one of those. I love the eye-control AF, but I'm not sure getting that feature is worth the cost of an upgrade.

    • @vaskoobscura_
      @vaskoobscura_  Місяць тому

      The price is the big issue for most. It's an expensive camera but at the same time if you run a photography business you can depreciate the camera over time and write off a portion of it as a business expense so it's not as expensive as it is on paper. But in the end you have to know what your cost of doing business is and get the right tool for the job. Everybody is different. I'm sure this camera will drop in price over time. So it might be a long term goal for your business. Hope that helped. Thanks for the comment.

    Why would canon make a BG with ventilator if it wouldn't overheat. I guess in 8K 60 it will overheat after some time. I hope the animal-AF will work in the R5 MKII as this is what I miss in my R5C. I was hoping to get internal ND-Filters, but now I think this will come in a R5C MKII.

    • @vaskoobscura_
      @vaskoobscura_  Місяць тому +2

      Internal ND filters was something I was hoping for too. The animal AF will probably be amazing in this camera. I found some more info about the camera after I made this video about overheating and record limits. 4k 120, and 8k leads to overeating. And I don't know this for sure yet but I heard that there is a 120minute record limit and the camera doesn't have a fully unlimited recording ability. I'll make a video testing it when I get the camera in my hands.

    Variable shutter speed, 30 fps at 50mp more than enough. Years later it’s still game changing and I’m surprised Canon set themselves up for failure.
    Canon hasn’t really solved much or introduced anything new with this update it’s extremely disappointing.
    The EVF is improved and adapted from the R3.
    Recording codecs/ speeds and sized are likely just an original R5 firmware just held back.
    Screen is the exact same.
    Memory cards exactly the same again.
