    Thin blue striping tape is sold at automotive paint suppliers so you don't need to slice wider tape.

      Nothing to ever feel stupid about! Plenty of things we're allowed not to know. Now that you know it, all better!

    I do the opposite, I thicken the acrylic with heavy structure gel then it doesn’t seep under the masking tape and you get a lovely crisp line. I’ll have to give this method a try.

      Ohh! I'll have to give your approach a try! I tend to work with thinner paint but I'm open to new things!

    Useful tip. Sometimes I get bleed-through under the tape; I'll cut out paper shapes from bristol board if I have to! Love your shirt, BTW! I want one.

    • @mixedmediamasters
      @mixedmediamasters  6 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, bleed through is always a risk. I try to always paint away from the tape to minimize the possibility of bleeding. Its fun to collect 'arty' shirts and I'm grateful I get to wear them in the videos!

    Isn’t there specific tape that stretches better for curves?

      I have heard of people using 'car detailing' tape in instances like this. I haven't tried it yet

    What tape are you using? My painters tape folds when making curved lines.

  • @David-yg4kc

    Good stuff! That liquid medium seal for the masking tape is a brilliant idea.
    Some other teachers recommend removing the mask before the paint has dried. Do you do that?

    • @mixedmediamasters
      @mixedmediamasters  5 місяців тому +1

      What a great question! I find sometimes that it can leave a bit of a ridge when you use the liquid medium but I generally leave it on until it dries. I suppose that if it gets too dry it may make it harder to get the tape off cleanly. Something to explore further!

    Wondering why you didn’t leave the original tape and repeat on the other side

    • @garyhooper1609
      @garyhooper1609 Рік тому

      There would’ve been a white line left as thick as the tape. The two colors would go as far as the border of the tape and then stop. When you remove the tape, you’d be left with a blue stripe. Granted, you could paint the entire surface one of your colors, and then only do the tape curve one time, but that would be layering colors and might not be what you want.

    From the start it look perfect, the taping is perfect but the step by step of your pairing is wrong. Why glueing the with white? First the you should is painting the blue first and when want to paint the black you glue your with the same blue leave it dry and paint the black, just like that you have a perfect line.
    (Next don’t paint dark colour before bright colour)

    Just use gesso, no need for a fancy acrylic product

      Gesso would work in this instance but not if you’re going over other colors.
