Man-O-Man! Echo what others have said - it's about time! This will literally save me hours on doing switch panel layouts for 3D printing where all of the text is part of a single large multicolour 3D print. The old style text would mess up font sizing continuously when moving the bounding boxes around and having to do a sepaprate box for each word, or multiple boxes for one word if a word spanned multiple lines; was a complete nightmare! So much wasted time and filament... You would start a print, see one bit of text that didn't look quite right, check the Fusion file and find out the box had change sized by 0.75mm as the result of a small move, which would in-turn change the contained font sizing. Then of course you had the issue of fonts being smaller than the actual bounding boxes, so you had to use construction lines and measuring to ACTUALLY size your text. I feel relief, not joy. Thank-you @Kevin for bringing this major and important update to the community's attention. :)
Nice! After spending the last week manipulating text the old way on a engraving plaque and having just finished the plaque, I sure could of used this new feature! Next time! Thanks Kevin...
Great tip, Martin! If you leave the program open all the time (like a lot of us do) then it doesn't always notify there is an update (unless you restart).

Any tips on getting text centered on a circular face? It wasn't too hard before, I could free move the text. It doesn't seem like I can free move the text any longer, or I am doing something wrong. The issue is drawing the text boundary as a box makes it hard to center the text using the alignment tools.
Hi, Completely new to Fusion 360 and awaiting my CNC plasma cutter. So... learning and creating some designs to use when it all arrives. I want to create a house number, with my state as the background. I created an outline of the state, and now want to place numbers to be cut out of the state. I cannot seem to figure this out, and, don't find a tutorial that does this as an example. Can you point me to one? In the mean time, I'll be clicking thumbs up as I view your tutorials. Great help to me!
The new text command really doesn't appear to work right. If I am able to define a box, the text is always rotated 90 degrees and rotating it to the right angle puts the anchor points in the wrong spot. Half the time, I would just get tick marks where I click, but no box. I also need to use the bounding box text created to offset the next text block to keep minimum distance to the next text (for 3D printing minimum thickness of embossed text). Are we going to be able to keep access to the old "simple" text command that just works?
Do you have something on grouping text? example: The first letter of a word may be capitalized and of a different font, then the rest of the word is normal. These are two sketches. Can they be grouped and treated as one?
Good video thanks. I am trying to find a way to modify the height of various texts without having to edit each one. I tried making a parameter called TextHeight and assigning that as the text heights. Fusion accepts it but changes the value to the actual value instead of maintaining 'TextHeight' as the parameter. Any work arounds? Thanks
I do wish the font would show what it would look like as you scroll through the options. I hate having to click each one to see how it looks on my model. Thanks for the video.
Trying to use text on curve but I need text to stay 90 degrees and not angle of path. Might need to break into letters and place like bottom letf corner on a construction line 🙁
I'd like to say "Awesome!" but I feel more like "About bloody time!" No, not you Kevin, the video is as cool as ever and quickly demonstrates the new features 8-). I just don't understand why it apparently took Autodesk so long to listen and update Fusion. As you say, there are loads of workarounds and hints for tweaking/fixing text out on the internet and they go way back. You would have thought Autodesk would have "noticed" sooner. It sort of feels like Fusion is making a bid to take over the world of 3D CAD, expanding with new stuff like electronics and slicing and the like, but at the same time forgetting about the basics...
hahahah I agree, Andy!! I honestly felt the same ;) Idk, it's a really tricky game/balance of prioritizing what to build...especially since F360 is trying to carve out its own unique market category (to some degree). I think the reason text was always put to the back burner was because most people simply resorted to using a graphics program. They do have more text enhancements in the works.
UPDATE: I had not clicked on the button to update Fusion 360 and restart the program. Placed some text and loved what I saw till I tried to move the text, couldn't. Would you please show how to move text once it is laid down?
RE: regular text, once you make the box type and style your text. How do you simply more it to where you need it without it rotating all over the place? the paragraph alignment is great but if you just need to move it a few mm to get it where you want its a royal pain :(
You'll want to use constraints to fully define the "text frame". You can also use dimensions to define the distance from the edge of one text frame line to another object of your model. If you have the right sketch constraint/dimensions applied then you'll be able to adjust thing as needed with it updating :)
Hi Terry. Yes! It's available on all licenses. Hi Mel. Fusion 360 can accept/import SVGs but cannot export as SVG. The good news is that you don't need to make it an SVG at all as long as you're using Fusion 360's native text command! You can simply create a sketch on top of your stamp plate and create your text as demoed in this video.
