What i have been waiting for from Zoom in build in their handheld recorders are XLR out instead of 8th inch line out jack. I talked to them about that once and they said they dont receive any requests for that that is why they dont build it in their recorders. Zoom build an XLR out jack we need them.
Thank you for this fully packed little review. The new H8 seems promising and should provide for lots of uses ,with its versatility and adaptability. Zoom was clever enough to introduce their "modules" system years ago (and MANY had a laugh about it : wrong thinking)... they are now enjoying the full power of this great idea ! Well done Zoom, on this and many other things. Including the (partially) non-physical interface, which leads to think updates shall come and improve the device along the years... another good idea ! Then... I see people complaining about "looks". Really, seriously ??? Are you also whining when it comes to a live-show smoke machine, a barbecue, a tripod, a microphone boom-pole... and else ? Come on, be smart... this is a sound recording and processing machine. Not a creation meant for museums. With all its features and functions, it obviously has to look "weird", but all we care about is : efficient or not ?
Well, within the Kingdom of My Castle Life, this piece of equipment is simply awesome! I got one and didn't think much of it since the Rodecaster Pro is here on the premises. Honestly, it sounds just as good as the Rodecaster Pro AND it's portable. Now, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the Rodecaster Pro but it's totally small, portable, and can fit in a backpack easily. The look grew on me like rain in Northern Washington State! Keep up the amazing work Zoom and can't wait to see what other amazing products to come!
Thanks for the video, found it quite useful. Have an H6 that I bought a couple months back and this H8 seems to have a lot of the things I was thinking would make the H6 more capable. Supporting a guitar direct in looks nice, that wasn't one of the things I was buying the H6 for otherwise I would've researched first and found that the H6 has no Hi-Z inputs and that I would need a seperate pre-amp/DI box to record direct from a guitar and thus use the interface mode to connect to a PC and use all the amp sims and effects. But after playing with the H6 for a while for the purposes I initially bought it for (recording my own band, recording a Samba band I'm in and to use as an interface for an electric drumkit for stuff like online lessons) I was a bit disappointed when I realised that if Zoom had just made one input Hi-Z I could do all kinds of stuff with guitar DI. Also nice to see EQ controls added and compressor has actual settings rather than just limited presets. Although there doesn't seem to be a way to choose indivdual frequencies for the EQ unless that is available on one of the effects that can be applied to an input. From this demo there appears to be a lo/mid/hi EQ for each channel plus the ability to apply effects taken from Zoom's gutiar effect units, if one of those effects is an EQ with assignable frequencies that could be nice. I'm a complete beginner with recording & production though, just learning as I go along so maybe I'm putting too much importance on controls on the unit itself rather than learning more with DAW software to edit the recorded tracks, but if I'm just recording a practice session for my band for our reference I don't really want to be spending ages editing tracks on PC and being able to set up the recorder for a good sound from its own stereo mix seems beneficial. Also using my H6 as an interface for my electric drumkit to PC for online drum lessons (funnily enough through Zoom videodchat software that has no relation to Zoom the manufacturer) and in that case I only have the onboard controls to tweak the sound (plus what's on the e-drum module itself, unfortunately my Roland TD9kv is getting on a bit now and doesn't have many options, no compressor, only 2 band global EQ) so the more options on the H8 to get a better sound in the unit itself the better. Agree with other comments about lack of USB-C. Also odd that need an expansion card for Bluetooth - surely they could just include Bluetooth and/or WiFi in the unit and allow copying of files and Bluetooth headphones too. Atm wireless capability looks a bit basic but it's better than nothing and I would hope they make it compatible with Android too.
@@liberty610 Can't hear it but becomes handy when recording many tracks that will be added to other projects that are already in 32 bit. That said, I do all my stuff in 16 and occasional 24 bit.

I like the idea but I'm not fully sold on the design. One of the main things I'd like is for all of the mic inputs to be combo jacks. its not ugly to a podcaster or musician, and might look different for someone in the field but for $400 🤷🏾♂️ even if you just used one side of the ports would it be that bad. how many square looking units do you want 👀
I had a Zoom H4N but its USB port damaged. It could mapping all four channels even for a single source of imput, it could handle the guitar effects as an audio interface mode. Now I have this new, 12 channel H8. It has very fancy guitar effects, but only for the Music App. No effects during the Audio Interface mode. So you could not record your effects by the Cubase, unable dubbing youtube songs with effect. And you are unable to record your guitar more than twice. Unable to mapping the track 1/2/3/4 to the guitar input A or B.
This is a good product review, in my opinion. Personally, I am happy to stick with my H6 for the time being, although I wish the project mixer had eq capability.
Great review! When plugged into usb into a mac to use as an audio interface - will the h8 charge through usb? or does it still rely on battery power? i want to keep it plugged in as an audio interface and keep it charged via usb or plugged into a usb outlet - would this be possible? thanks!

This is not possible. Add FX in your DAW. Per Zoom: Effects: These alter the sounds of instruments, voices and other sources. The microphone preamps are very good - clean and clear! >Mark
does anyone else... H8 the design?
We all H8 it.
Excellent presentation

Noise floor? Same preamps as the rest of the H line? (can't watch full vid. limited internet.)
there is no any information about preamp and noise floor in this video. I'm also looking for that. which is important.
Very good noise floor And same high quality microphone preamps as the Zoom H5 and H6. The H8's preamps are ready to deliver low-noise performance. >Mark
is it possible to have a noise gate and compressor on each track/input? (it looks like you can do only one or the other, but not both.)
These controls are found within the FIELD app and may be chosen and applied to each track singly or in combination. >Mark
great video thanks. Is it possible to adjust individual channel monitoring? For instance mute a particular channel but still be recording that audio to file? You can do this in the H6 on the "monitor mix" menu but I can't seem to find much info on the H8
The "monitor mix" menu of the H8 allows individual channel monitoring as well. >Mark
@@BandH great thanks for your quick reply
Not an attractive design. I wish they had modeled off of the H6.
Why did they not bring their new 32 bit recording?
Because of the F6 obviously
Either a paid firmware update otw or it's just a disposable piece of Spider-Man trash.
It just looks like a tank haha Not sure if I'm a fan of the design, but still intrigued by the quality coming out of this.
is the H8 compatible with the ECM-6 cable and older mic capsules?
-and are the new capsules backwards-compatible?
Indeed they are! >Mark
NICE! #TakeMyMoney
Think I’m sold
There is place for more then one headphones?
The Zoom H8 has just one headphone output. To connect multiple headphones to this recorder use a headphone amplifier:

Could we use this to take in high quality audio for a zoom call?
Yes. The built-in microphones along with the Zoom H8's USB interface will show up as a USB microphone on your desktop that may be used for Zoom calls. >Mark
B&H Photo Video thank you for your reply Mark. Appreciated :-)
Does it have loopback function ❓
The Zoom H8 does not offer a loopback function. >Mark
i wonder if you can record a safety track from any of the xlr inputs. thumbs up.
Sure you can! No matter the source, selectable auto-recording and pre-recording ensure that you'll never miss the start of a take, and stereo safety track recording provides duplicate tracks at a lower level to avoid distortion. >Mark
I think it’s cool that you can add the Bluetooth adapter and use a remote app, the only problem is there is no remote app available 🙃
The app is up on the apple App Store now! Can’t tell what it does, but it’s there! 😲
Is the H8 really heavy to hold? For someone who's going to record ambience?

Is missing a XLR line out f some reason Zoom does not want to include an XLR line out on any of its H series models, i am not sure if the F models have XLR out or not.

@@BandH Okay still no XLR line out for H8 which is a shame that with so many XLR inputs for H8 and others Zoom lacks the vision to add XLR line out in many of their handheld recorders.
What's the best capsule to use for field recording?
It would truly depend upon the project, the ambient recording environment, and the nature of the audio desired. The included X/Y mic capsule is extremely versatile and might be the best for you. I recommend becoming familiar with the Zoom H8 as it is before experimenting with different capsules. >Mark

its not ugly to a podcaster or musician, and might look different for someone in the field but for $400 🤷🏾♂️ even if you just used one side of the ports would it be that bad. how many square looking units do you want 👀
Can this be used as an audio interface and an audio recorder at the same time? If so, how?
Yes it can. Connect it to the USB input on your computer and insert an SD card into the P4. >Mark
B&H Photo Video thanks! What about the H8?
I had a Zoom H4N but its USB port damaged. It could mapping all four channels even for a single source of imput, it could handle the guitar effects as an audio interface mode. Now I have this new, 12 channel H8. It has very fancy guitar effects, but only for the Music App. No effects during the Audio Interface mode. So you could not record your effects by the Cubase, unable dubbing youtube songs with effect. And you are unable to record your guitar more than twice. Unable to mapping the track 1/2/3/4 to the guitar input A or B.
hello dear
zoom h8 can record mp3 formats?
Yes. The Zoom H8 features recording:
Audio File Formats: BWF, MP3, WAV
Sample Rates: WAV:
44.1 / 48 / 96 kHz
Bit Depth: 16 / 24-Bit
Bit Rates: 128 kb/s,
192 kb/s, 320 kb/s >Mark
This is a good product review, in my opinion. Personally, I am happy to stick with my H6 for the time being, although I wish the project mixer had eq capability.
Super trans&port for mch audio..not only for sound too:)
Can this connect to a usb hub for more flexibility?
Yes it can.
Great review! When plugged into usb into a mac to use as an audio interface - will the h8 charge through usb? or does it still rely on battery power? i want to keep it plugged in as an audio interface and keep it charged via usb or plugged into a usb outlet - would this be possible? thanks!
Note: When using a USB cable designed for recharging, audio interface, SD card reader and Guitar Lab
connection functions cannot be used. HINT

AC power can be used by connecting a dedicated AC adapter (ZOOM AD-17) to the USB

Can I add fx to music tracks after recording and if so, how do i do this...I have tried and no success. Many Thanks Davy
This is not possible. Add FX in your DAW. Per Zoom:
Effects: These alter the sounds of instruments, voices and other sources. The
included effects, which are equivalent to those in ZOOM multi-effects processors, can be used with a variety of instruments. Using
the free Guitar Lab effect management application on a computer
(Mac/Windows), you can add effects that are distributed online as
well as edit and back up patch memories.
• Effects can only be used when the recording format is 44.1 kHz/16-bit WAV or
44.1 kHz/24-bit WAV. >Mark
@@BandH Thank you
Can I use it as a audio interface to make youtube live?
You should be able to.
Indeed you can Marcio. The H8 can also operate as a multichannel/stereo USB audio interface for Macs, Windows computers, and iPads. >Mark
@@BandH Thanks...It is great, 12 channel making live.
Can I record tracks separately?
The H8 offers discrete multi-track output into your DAW via its USB interface.
Maximum
simultaneous recording tracks:
12 (MIC IN, backup recording, 1-4, A, B, and LR) >Mark
@@BandH Please let me know whether it has built in multi track recording option
Is it possible to use Zoom H8 through wifi or mobile app ?
The Zoom H8 has no Wi-Fi connectivity or access to a mobile app. You can use your iPhone or iPad to monitor level meters and press record, play, and stop in each H8 application mode. Just insert the BTA-1 Bluetooth module (available separately) to your H8 and connect to your iOS device. bhpho.to/2WfJ3pi >Mark
HI thank you for the video, it's really interesting, Just wondering if you know if we can plug in portable 8 wireless microphone, UHF audio Lavalier system into H8
I am not sure which brand/model you would be referring to Suyi. But here is the Analog Audio I/O for the Zoom H8:
4 x XLR 3-Pin Female Balanced Mic Input (Lockable)
2 x Combo XLR-1/4" TRS Female Balanced Instrument/Line/Mic Input (Lockable)
1 x 1/8" / 3.5 mm TRS Female Unbalanced Line/Mic Input
1 x 1/8" / 3.5 mm TRS Female Unbalanced Line Output
1 x 1/8" / 3.5 mm TRS Female Unbalanced Headphone Output

Mine will not work as audio interface on either mac or PC.
Hello. Have a good time
I had a question about the Zoom H8
In the music mode, when we record the sound on the memory card, the effect is recorded, but the equalization is not applied
Is this part of the factory settings?
Please advise. Thanks a lot

This is normal for this device. Effects can only be used when the recording format is 44.1 kHz/16-bit WAV or 44.1 kHz/24-bit WAV >Mark
