Thank you for this very clear, informative yet easy-to-understand video. At 1:13, though, you say the switch on 1,2,3,and 4 is for level or mic level, but it is actually the 20 decibel padding, not a line/mic level switch. Aren't you confusing the two? Or can this switch be altered in Settings? ... One question: Can all channels record at 24-bit/96kbps? The H6 can do 24/96 only in stereo mode. In multi-track mode, it is limited to 16/48. It is a little hard to figure this out from Zoom's promotionals, so I want to know clearly when the H8 cannot record at the 24/96 level. Is it available throughout every configuration? Thank you.
Depends on what you're recording, and whether 12 tracks is enough. In a studio, on a budget, I'd use something like a Tascam US 16X8 which gives you 16 tracks and is a hundred bucks cheaper... but out where you have no electricity, this thing would be absolutely KILLER.
budgetguitarist.com yeah I can imagine I would be in the market for a Behringer. I am aiming towards having my home studio be basically modular and each section (recording, guitar, synths, playback) is able to be taken to a different location.

Hey, Tsvetan! The phantom power is shared by all of the inputs so you can't select specific inputs to apply it to. You can run phantom power to a dynamic mic that doesn't need it without damaging the mic, though. We already have a Mackie pro mixer 16. But we can't record individual tracks. Based on what you're saying here, we could run an extra cord out of that mixer into this box and it would record individual tracks. Am I hearing that properly? This way we can edit individual tracks in a DAW or other software, right?
Hey, Michael! The H8 has the ability to be a multitrack interface given that if you sent individual tracks in to it, it can track those individually over USB. If you don’t send individual tracks in to the H8, however, it has no way to separate them. If you sent a summed stereo output or mono out from the Mackie in to the H8, you would still be stuck with that summed mix. I hope this helps! Thanks for reaching out! You could definitely send the summed output from the H8 to the Q8. You would just connect the line output on the H8 to one of the 1/4" line inputs on the Q8. The only downside to this is that your mic tracks will be combined before going in to your Q8, so you won't get the same multi-tracking benefits that you get when using the H8's USB/SD features. Video about audio recorder. Audio of dude talking has digital artifacts because he cleaned up the audio wrong. I’m sure it’s cool recorder but dang man. Your audio should show off not show weaknesses.
It's so ugly it's almost cute. Almost. Zoom makes great affordable recorders. But I wish they would ditch that "xlr plugs in every direction" and just have them all be in the back. That would also take up LESS space when plugged all in. Who wants cable spaghetti?

¡Yo quiero el Zoom Hache Ocho!
It is possible to run the H8 into the ZOOM Q8 video camera? I am looking to record 4-6 tracks simultaneously while running a stereo out into the Q8. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

@@sweetwater Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I will be picking up my H8 soon from Sweetwater. Best wishes!
Is the limiter digital or analog? Are the preamps the same the H6? How does it compare to the rodecaster pro?
Great question! The effects on the H8 are digital, and the preamps are the same as those on the H6. We are happy to help you find the best interface and recorder for your needs, so feel free to give us a call for a more in-depth comparison on those units. Thanks!

I bought the rodecaster pro about 4 days before I discovered the H8, now I am asking the same question.

I have the Rodecaster Pro and the H8. The H8 is definitely better in terms of preamps. Check the UA-cam review of the H8 by Curtis Judd. The H8 powers the Sm7b with no issues. The Rodecaster becomes noisy at that level (55db)

How's the preamps quality for recording direct guitar ?
Hey, Roy! Recording direct in with guitar is nice and clean, you just need to switch to Hi-Z mode. There are a ton of effects you can choose from, too, or you can use your own rig. Let me know if you have any questions!

@@sweetwater Thanks Connor !
does it work with EXH-6?
Hey there! Thanks for reaching out, it's Mickey from Sweetwater! The Zoom H8 can accept the EXH-6, though it will not fit in any of the H8 cases with the attachment connected. Other than that, it should be smooth sailing for you! Any other questions, give us a call!

So, is it an Autobot or a Decepticon?
I got chest pain watching this.
Likely a heart attack if attempting to use it.
I cannot lie, the video looks legit but i always have a hard time to trust a video about Audio, when the recorded audio sounds bad 😬
it needs for half inch cable
*Megatron has entered the chat*
Why couldn't they make this compatible with Android?
Video about audio recorder. Audio of dude talking has digital artifacts because he cleaned up the audio wrong. I’m sure it’s cool recorder but dang man. Your audio should show off not show weaknesses.
Exactly
I though for sure this would be over $1K. Actually, really damn affordable.
Are you sure that's not a transformer?
Nobody noticed what the name sounds like?
Who are the ad wizards who came up with this one!?
Perhaps it is time for a mass debate about the H8.
There might be aliens living inside

Did they release a product in 2020 without USB-C? Added to the list of shame.
How heavy is it..?? Let's see you hold in 1 hand....?? It's Suppose to be a Handy Recorder..
Do not do this, you will fall into the Earth.
great... except - it's no longer handy
Touch screen, iOS, optimized apps...
But not as elegant as H6 lol
micro USB?! Says it all.
I'm traumatized by the name zoom
To much talking to less playing
It's so ugly it's almost cute. Almost.
Zoom makes great affordable recorders.
But I wish they would ditch that "xlr plugs in every direction" and just have them all be in the back.
That would also take up LESS space when plugged all in.
