Very nicely done. I''ve done all kinds of work on a 79 Vette, including 4 engine swaps. Working on a FWD scares me because I have big hands and I know space is limited. Your video will be a huge help when I replace the timing belt on my son's Civic.
Excellent work... You seem to know your stuff. You give the shady tree mechanic/back yard mechanic LOTS of hope. I'd feel REAL confident attempting and or attacking this project... Thanx a bunch... -A.D.
The mileage when i changed the t-belt was 113k. And the condition of the old belt and waterpump was actually still really good. This car has been babied and driven with care :)
Great video...And good idea replacing that crank bolt. Anyone doing a TB must, and I mean MUST REPLACE that bolt. They are designed to be torqued down only once.
You give AMAZING instruction and a very Thorough tutorial! I’m about to do the WP and TC on a 1997, but watched you because you are a great instructor. Thanks for raising the bar for the aspiring UA-cam “Pros. (Using the term loosely LOL😂) Well done, Ace!!
Nice job. I have been servicing cars for years especially in my own business, but your setup to break the crank pulley bolt is one of the best I have seen. Really great job on the video.
Great video. I'm not a mechanic in any sense of the word, but this was the best timing belt video I've seen. Planning to do this to my '98 Acura EL (Eh?), i.e. the Canadian version of a dressed up Civic. With help from my journeyman mechanic in-law of course. That was a lotta leverage you used to get that crank bolt loose!
Man that was a great video I have the exact same honda. I have been scared to attempt this but your video made me feel like I can do this. My Honda has 214K and I'm the second owner. I think next payday I'm going to price the kit.
Thank you for this video and I appreciate you taking the time to make this. I just did my timing belt and water pump I paid $300 for somebody to do it and in the process of that they fucked up my hood latch cable
Thank`s alot man! Your vid`s been helpful! Even though my engine was supposed to be just the same, I found some tiny differences. No crankshaft sensor,,etc. Greetings from Catalonia.
with the coolant coming out from the pump. the way to drain that is triugh a drain plug behind the aternator on the block above the oil filter. you open that up and it drains the coolant that is in the block, not just whats in the rad
nice video..but is that the crankshaft position sensor located down in the area by water pump inside of timing g? let me know. I've been having a problem with my civic running well for a few miles then it dies while I'm driving and won't start for 10-20 minutes once over an hour. A few ppl told me that it may be the crankshaft position sensor..
the crankshaft position sensor is beside the crank gear at the bottom. you have to remove the crank pulley, and lower timing belt cover to get access to it. does your engine turn when you start?
Cut ALL the belts.... YES CUT THEM ALL and you will make things easier. I got all of them for about $40.00 total with Tax. Save me so much time with $40.00 and all of my belts are brand new again! *NOTE:* Alternator, AC, Power Steering, and Timing Belt.
Nice video .....!! thank you I have a honda civic 1996 EX manual transmission where can i find that manual online where it talks about cram shaft torquing and also the first pages on your video? I will really appreciate if you provide me that Info. Also if you have that info for valves rigging thanks a alot
I got the new procedure for tightening that bolt when I purchased that bolt from Honda. Also, I purchased one standard bottle of premixed coolant and the amount was just enough.
Spectacular! This might save some dough. Holy shit, this is like a revolution! Next is how to build solar panels for home use! You rock dude thanks for the video - very clear and precise! Just let us know if how it runs, any problems with the car after this fix?
Good video. I think if you dont take off that crankshaft fluctuation sensor the car will have a check engine light after the timing belt replacement? Can anyone confirm this?
Hi, Great Video! Could you send me some of information you read on your research before doing this? I'm afraid to do it myself cuss I dont know the torque pounds of every bolt
+Christian Bravo i actually just googled and watched some other videos on youtube. i do have the haynes repair manual that specifies all torque values. its actually not too bad to try yourself.
When you put the crankshaft pulley back on does it matter how it goes back on, because there's a white timing mark on the crankshaft pulley, so does it matter where that white timing mark is during installation of crankshaft pulley? Have you ever changed crankshaft oil seal? If you pull out the crankshaft sprocket to replace the oil seal, then when you put the crankshaft sprocket back in, how do you align the notch on the crankshaft sprocket to the pointer on the engine?
Thanks for the information. Do you know if it's the same procedure for crankshaft sprocket? Does the crankshaft sprocket go in only one way too? I think I need to move the crankshaft sprocket cause I might need to change the oil seal behind it.
if you have a 1/2 air impact with enough torque that bolt will come out and do no damage. i always choose the cheapest option which for me is to use the impact i already have for removing tires
Place timing belt, water pump and crank sensor on my 1997 honda but does not start change the crank sensor because the alternator belt broke the sensor cable need help to fix my car bro
DUDE!! i done exactly every movement you made and now it leaks oil.. do you have ANY idea where it would come from??? it looks like it was the pan gasket, not it, cant find the leak ANYWHERE... any opinion would help!! Much love in advance!!!
Zuhri Lotfy I checked it out today man. I looked at everything for like 2 hours straight then a light bulb popped on my head. It was the DipStick Tube........ I wanted to noose myself in several different ways. BUT THEN!!!! I seen the woodruff key on my magnet after putting everything back together and picking up. I felt nauseous. long day. I also snapped 3 belts because the alternator pully wasn't spinning. fuck this car.
In these old civics, the crank and cam seals are seriously overlooked. The Pcv valve also makes a HUGE difference. Its right above the oil filter at the end of a hose on the right side. Make sure to change that at least once
I should have watched this video, I took off the valve cover to paint it and when I was putting it back on 2 bolts snapped. It also makes this terrible noise for about 20 seconds when i turn the car on but I dont think it has anything to do with that, maybe the water pump.
ATG recommends to do the following: If you CAN NOT remove the Crankshaft Pulley's Bolt out- DO NOT DO 1. Get the complete Timing Belt Kit 2. Camshaft Seals 3. Crankshaft Seals. Good luck doing the rear one 4. Water pump 5. Rollers 6. Tensioner with Spring 7. Oil Pump's O-Ring. Good luck doing this 8. Spark Plugs are optional 9. Spark Plug Coils are optional X. All belts Many videos will not show nor even shops will replace those needed seals. Many owners will NOT get this type of repairs because it is well over $3,500.00. And for sure not a single one on UA-cam will show you how to replace the Crankshaft Inner's Seal (back) or the Oil Pump's O-Ring without taking the engine apart from car. Anyone has questions /or need help, reply email address here
How do I know if my timing belt is bad? My car began making a noise when I start it, near the belts he took off in the video i can hear sort of a whirring noise, is it my timing belt or what could it be?
I doubt it's the timing belt. If it snapped, then the engine valves are done. It could be a bad bearing on a pulley. Usually timing belts are replaced at defined intervals (i.e. every 105k miles) as preventative maintenance.
heybro i cant get my bolt lose lol im going to try the stand trick that bar u where useing that 1 inch or half inch drive i tryed my hardest but it would let go
I didn't need the pulley tool. I simply used a Snap-on Impact gun and the bolt came rite off and the pulley didn't move. You need if you try to muscle it off with a wrench..
Hello U start very good with explanation but after couple second it wasnt understood what u do and how u free things It was better if ubshow all the process of the work and put camera without moving to show as deep replacement
Easiest way to remove crank pulley bolt without the tool is to put the car in 2nd gear and have someone stand on the brakes hard while you crank the bolt loose. I've never had luck with chain wrenches.
next time try rockauto.com timing belt kit w\ waterpump and valve cover gasket kit $91 with shipping for my 1996 honda civic ex just a bonus heads up for your video thx
For real I am feeling somewhat dizzy from watch this video probably do to too much cam movement. I need to stop the video before it worst worst. Other than that this is a great video.

No problem :)
Good job man thats how its done. No cut corners or half assing good to see that
The mileage when i changed the t-belt was 113k. And the condition of the old belt and waterpump was actually still really good. This car has been babied and driven with care :)
Great video sir. Refreshing to see a how to video and actually understand the person talking.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I just replaced my water pump and used your video. Great job sir. Thanks again.
You are welcome :)

your video was very easy to follow, and assisted me in performing this same task. Thank you.

You’re welcome!
Was able to do this myself that’s to your video. Saved approx $400. Thanks you

Yup, i was literally hanging on the end of that cheater bar lol. Good luck and have fun!
@@zuhrimohdlotfy1576 I researched and found that my Acura also has this engine model (D16Y8). Good times!
D16Y8 Integra???
Marking the old belt and then putting it on the new one is an excellent idea!

Great video, thanks. I've always wondered about this procedure and if it justified the cost to a shop. Thanks again.
Thank`s alot man! Your vid`s been helpful! Even though my engine was supposed to be just the same, I found some tiny differences. No crankshaft sensor,,etc. Greetings from Catalonia.
Really well done. You're good at repair videos, you should do more.
Thank you for the great video. Nice to have someone who knows what they're doing explaining it well. I have the same year car but the DX model.
with the coolant coming out from the pump. the way to drain that is triugh a drain plug behind the aternator on the block above the oil filter. you open that up and it drains the coolant that is in the block, not just whats in the rad

awesome. thanks for the tip.
Great vid. Very informative and no cursing. Plus you know your stuff. Your not guessing or saying umm this thing. Keep it up
thanks. yea, i did some studying before attempting this
Thanks for this video. Saved me about $400!
Great vid. Thanks for taking the time to make it.
Wow!!! Wonderful video! You’re an excellent instructor!
this video was extremely informative! very helpful! thanks for taking your time to make this video!

Great video bro I'm about to do my moms 99 civic was wondering will a impact work on that hb bolt
Sometimes. If you have a setup with a high torque rating, it should work. Good luck
Cut ALL the belts.... YES CUT THEM ALL and you will make things easier. I got all of them for about $40.00 total with Tax. Save me so much time with $40.00 and all of my belts are brand new again!

very thorough and complete... if everyone had such a detailed demonstration, i'd be doing everything on my own
I would like to say, thank you very much. Your very informative video saved me lots of money. Thank you!
You are welcome! I'm glad it helped you :)
Thanks for the video! How long did it take you in total?

hi, the instructions came with the new OEM crank pulley bolt that i bought online. also, you should be able to search for valve adjustment on youtube
What was the milage when you changed your timing belt? ....and what was the condition?
Thanks,...Mario from Nova Scotia.
Do you have to use this crank bolt procedure with the old bolt or for new one only ?
I got the new procedure for tightening that bolt when I purchased that bolt from Honda.
Also, I purchased one standard bottle of premixed coolant and the amount was just enough.
Should you change the water pump no matter what?
Thanks for making video. My friend and I found it very helpful.
I really wish I could have seen the attempts lol this is a great video but still scares me to try n do it

thanks for the kind words :) the car has accumulated more than 20k miles since and it runs like a dream! no problems whatsoever.
Good video. I think if you dont take off that crankshaft fluctuation sensor the car will have a check engine light after the timing belt replacement? Can anyone confirm this?
that baby is clean nice vid man
Thanks for the comments guys. I will try to post more videos
So is it recommended i should change the water pump without question?
Yes.
Thanks for the help, good job! Hope you put up more videos
So in order for you to replace the water pump- you also have to replace the timing belt??
Yes, for sure.
I bought that crank bolt removal tool on ebay for 25. Honda also sells their version, for more money of course.
nice video bro made it look easy
Thank you for this video, it has helped tremendously. .

Angel Michael, the crankshaft pully can only be put on one way cuz the little pin that holds in place
Thanks for the information. Do you know if it's the same procedure for crankshaft sprocket? Does the crankshaft sprocket go in only one way too? I think I need to move the crankshaft sprocket cause I might need to change the oil seal behind it.
The crank pulley removal tool is 1/2 inch drive
Was that a 3/4 or 1/2 inch drive on the crank pulley removal tool ?
Really good video
Hi everyone. Sorry I don't log into youtube much. Thanks for the comments. I will try to answer all questions posted.

good video man legit info
DUDE!! i done exactly every movement you made and now it leaks oil.. do you have ANY idea where it would come from??? it looks like it was the pan gasket, not it, cant find the leak ANYWHERE... any opinion would help!! Much love in advance!!!
Joseph Hill
The only oil seal i had to undo was for the valve cover. Is the oil leaking from the head?
Zuhri Lotfy I checked it out today man. I looked at everything for like 2 hours straight then a light bulb popped on my head. It was the DipStick Tube........ I wanted to noose myself in several different ways. BUT THEN!!!! I seen the woodruff key on my magnet after putting everything back together and picking up. I felt nauseous. long day. Joseph Hill ah man sorry that happened. Yea forgot about the dipstick tube. Its ok man, take your time
The seal behind crank pully will start to leak if you aren't gentle with it when installing

Maybe a pulley
Can you reuse the original crankshaft bolt?
ATG recommends to do the following:
If you CAN NOT remove the Crankshaft Pulley's Bolt out- DO NOT DO
1. Get the complete Timing Belt Kit
2. Camshaft Seals
3. Crankshaft Seals. Good luck doing the rear one
4. Water pump

7. Oil Pump's O-Ring. Good luck doing this
8. Spark Plugs are optional
9. Spark Plug Coils are optional
X. All belts

Many owners will NOT get this type of repairs because it is well over $3,500.00.
And for sure not a single one on UA-cam will show you how to replace the Crankshaft Inner's Seal (back) or the Oil Pump's O-Ring without taking the engine apart from car.

Where do you find the Radio Code & what years & models need that info ?
Do you know if scan tool data can access the radio codes ?
pc zapp
I got the radio code from the previous owner. Not sure where to get then otherwise
if your just replacing the water pump would I have to still take the belts off?
Trevor Patton same question
Yes you would. All three above the timing cover, AND the timing belt itself.
Yup
Nice tutorial👏🏻🤙🏻🤘🏻🤟🏻👍
How do I know if my timing belt is bad? My car began making a noise when I start it, near the belts he took off in the video i can hear sort of a whirring noise, is it my timing belt or what could it be?

Where did you buy the Tool for the Crank bolt... Cant find that dam tool lol
heybro i cant get my bolt lose lol im going to try the stand trick that bar u where useing that 1 inch or half inch drive i tryed my hardest but it would let go
may have to PB blast or WD40 overnight. thats what i did
did you have to rotate the the crank 4 revolutions or is that just a something optional?
That was just optional. It's just to check that I didn't mess anything up.
and you're doing this shit with a camera ! niiice work my friend
+mark yisser
thanks man!
How do I do the 2002 EX with the gigantic ABS selenoid right above the timing belt area? Do I have to do the whole job from below?
sorry, but I am not sure since the setup is different
I didn't need the pulley tool. I simply used a Snap-on Impact gun and the bolt came rite off and the pulley didn't move. You need if you try to muscle it off with a wrench..

Hello
U start very good with explanation but after couple second it wasnt understood what u do and how u free things
It was better if ubshow all the process of the work and put camera without moving to show as deep replacement
Where can I get that bolt ?
excellant
Thanks great work
Easiest way to remove crank pulley bolt without the tool is to put the car in 2nd gear and have someone stand on the brakes hard while you crank the bolt loose. I've never had luck with chain wrenches.
Yup, could do that too. I was working by myself so had to get this setup going, but thanks for the tip.
Ever heard of this weird tool called an impact?
I’m nervous lol I’m attempting to change my water pump and timing belt on my civic wish me luck lol 😂
I don't understand why you have to mark the belt.. can't you just slip the new belt on after you have everything at top dead center?

yup, pretty much same steps
The marks on the belt dont matter as long as your at TDC on the cam and crank gear
true. im just paranoid
can you do the pump without doing the timing belt
+Alex Amico
im afraid not. you have to remove the belt to remove the water pump.

I don’t remember. Just gotta feel around it to know for sure
Could you message me on Facebook if I do need more help?
Same as my username on here just Nick N Sapkaroski
Just comment here. I check these too
Zuhri Lotfy alright for sure but I got three bolts off the bottom timing belt cover and it still doesn’t wanna come off
I actually think it would have been fine if the fluctuation sensor was not removed. I still took it off cause the manual said to do so
