One day i repotted my pothos in one long vine, turned out i made them stressed and dried. So i cut the dead leaves and let the vine hanging up (i thought that it could be the guide for it to climb up). After few weeks, new leaves are growing from the nodes on the dried vine (which i thought was dead already!!) and forming new vine in new direction!! So do not waste the dried vine guys! Just keep water it and it will grow back 😁

These plants are truly blessings. Imagine the earth with none of these life giving plants and trees. Where would humans be?Always appreciate these small blessings
I do that with my father-in-law's Pothos plants!! I made two pots of Pothos cuttings for him last year and they've been growing like crazy so every few weeks when I visit him I get a few cuttings so free plants for me!!😁

@@TechplantChannel You may know but if not - pothos will do alright in a dim area just so long as there is some light and the plant is well watered and fed. The green parts of the leaves are taking in energy and white parts are where the plant is kind of saying, "okay I have enough light, let's turn part of the energy off."
@@krankenheim13 my grandmothers pothos goes through seasonal phases in the summer it would produce more variegated leaves and in the winter when the sun didn't get into the windows as much it would just produce green ones my grandmother sent me some pothos cuttings in the mail to remind me of her because I won't get to see her for a while (I moved to Florida I used to live in Oklahoma)
Shot glass, great idea to hold the leaves out of the water!! Pothos were one of the first plants I've propagated after I got into propagation and succulents! I love seeing how well their roots form, and a nice learning experience for the kids also... My children love planting and learning new tricks for each plant. I've been gardening and propagating for about ten years now and I don't see an end date any time soon lol... When the roots start to develop and they get the clear slime around them, I've tried leaving it (the slime) on, and also taking it off, and in my own experience, when I take off the slimy film, (very gently using a damp paper towel, pulling downward to the tip of the root) the roots seem to grow faster than when I leave it. A full 2 days sooner. Thanks so much for this video, it's very educational.
I went to the plant store today! I bought this nice mini bamboo plant, a zebra plant, and a marbled pothos! It has about 3 vines that are starting to trail and I’m so excited to grow this plant. It’s so full and beautiful and healthy! My mom got this super super full neon pothos and whenever it gets older I’m going to take some cuttings of that too
This was SO incredibly helpful! My friend gave me single leaf cutting and I was starting to worry that I wouldn’t get a flourishing plant. Seeing what happens over time gave me hope! My leaflings are definitely growing roots, just slowly.
This is so great!! Thank you! I loved everything about this video. My only negative is that I wish I found this video first rather than wasting my time on all those others that didn't go near as detailed and comprehensive and encouraging!! This is my first time propagating and now I don't feel bad about my little cutting not looking so great. You saved my plant!! LOl!! I'm so glad I found your channel before throwing it out!! Thank you!!
Thank you, I learn't something new from your video, no one else compared the two methods of cutting the stem. I propogate & grow pothos alot and have a heavenly lush arrangement in my office and home. I prefer the dense, thick appearance as opposed to thin & leggy and I've learnt by experience that misting the leaves with water causes new leaves to sprout and I also place a glass dome on top of the plant pot when I have just inserted the cuttings. It creates a humid environment for the plantlings, I don't have to water, the cuttings establish themselves in no time and new shoots/leaves also sprout abundantly.
Techplant Hello! I was excited to share a new discovery about growing pothos in water. I cut several leaves just underneath the node and arrange them in an artistic bunch before immersing in a jar/vase of tap water. I even use elastic bands to keep them in bunches. I change the water every 3 days and this causes faster root formation. I recently used warm water from the tap and the roots and several new shoots of leaves formed even faster! I think it mimics the hot humid climates that pothos naturally thrives in. Another thing I noticed is if the roots are somewhat constrained (in both soil and water containers) several new shoots of leaves are produced faster as apposed to roots growing in a larger roomier container. Large, lush arrangements of pothos look so beautiful in the room and are psychologically so pleasing. Even visitors, colleagues in my office like to talk about the pothos!
That's an awesome tip! How long after planting cuttings do you typically start to see your first new leaves? I'm about 5 months into mine, and while they leaves look healthy for the most part, there's no new visible growth as of yet.
I grow most of my pothos in water permentaly, i love them in water, that way i can set my water grown plants in any container i want,, and i change my water once or twice a week at least, to provide oxygen, that is the key to a healthy plant
The roots are longer in the shorter clippings because the plant doesn't have to expend the energy to nourish the long vine, only a shorter, smaller plant. The longer vine doesn't need longer roots, as the entire vine is being nourished by several new roots. Also, once the long cutting is rooting, you can cut it and have several cuttings like in the other example.
Actually, it probably is related to the fact that the single leaf cuttings are a plain green pothos, so with a lot of chlorofyll ergo growth power vs the bundle of marble queen which has a lot more varietion ergo is a weaker plant/grower.
I just started having my own pothos and saved it from rotting. It's only been rooted in the soil but it's bouncing back. Thank you for showing how you cut it and how you get bushy pothos. I also love how you added a follow up video on how the two methods work.❤
Dude, amazing. I literally just had to finally concede as prune my pathos plant and I was not happy about throwing the 2 vines in the bin. Just didn’t feel right because I love my plants. So I jumped on UA-cam and the first tutorial I find and watch is this! So epic. Thanks so much! My plant wasn’t cut in vain 💛🙏
I always had Pothos. Everyone of them😑 didn't like me. Now, I went out and bought 4. I am determined to grow them. Thanks for the video. Really helpful!
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you create those cuttings into nice healthy plants. I really prefer the bushy method as it gives you more plants too. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Today seems like the perfect day to take some cuttings. My string of hearts was over 3ft long & I finally took some cuttings for new plants. Now I'm going to tend to the pothos, which is a big bushy plant with lots of long pieces! Almost to the ground! I love days like this...so relaxing.
So grateful for finding this video. I subscribed but then noticed the comments were years old. Anyway, l am going to do this propagation as l don't like the long empty parts where leaves die off.
My parents gave me pothos cuttings like the solid green one in your video. After I propped and potted them, I put them under a plant light for a couple of hours a day to help them. All of the new growth revealed it to be marble queen! Apparently if it doesn't get enough of the right light, the leaves will just be a little smaller and solid green like that. Maybe yours is originally from a green pothos, but just wanted to share my little story. Thanks for the informative video!
I agree, it’s so helpful and interesting to see the whole process! Thank you for taking the time and being so thorough. Easily the most helpful propagation video I’ve seen so far!
Thanks for this. Someone was disrespectful while doing some outside work on my home and they tore apart my plants so this will hopefully rescue most the vines they broke off.
You're so cool. This is my first time cutting my pothos. I have 3 separate vines growing in one pot which kinda makes it a little fuller but I think I prefer this way the best. I'm giving the cuttings to a client of mine once they've got some good roots on 'em. Thanks! 👍
Excellent video~! My Mother plant is 30 years old, and I have created so many new plants from it. (like you do). I use both methods. However, lately, I have been using moist Sphagnum Moss, to propagate them. Have you tried that?
Just starting to do this with cutting from my mother in law. I want them to eventually sit on top of my 10 gallon aquarium on the hood with the roots into the tank. I think the roots would make the tank look really cool and not to mention it would help take out the nitrates in the water. Very cool plant. It would be cleaning my air and my tank water.
The type of soil you use is very important . I repotted a marble queen in a water conserve type soil that caused root rot. I learned the hard way that this type of soil is not meant for pothos because it's not fast draining which causes the root to sit in water and rot, however it's perfect for my Fiddle Leaf plant.
Love doing multi cuttings. Currently is my first time that I have also used a heat mat (because they were out from my spring garden starts) and my led lights. I’m also propagating a monstera cutting. I am amazed at the speed at which they have both sprouted roots using the mat and lights. I’m sure a nice sunny window is perfectly effective, but the mat and lights have sped the process up significantly! Also, if you buy Aqua Safe tap water treatment drops (think: for your goldfish’s aquarium), you can add a few drops to your water to de-chlorinate and minerals. Happy propagating! 🌱
Thank you so much! I've been nervous about how to propogate my pothos plants but by the time your video had ended mine were already cut and placed in a glass container. Definitely gave me the confidence to give this a try!
When I propagate, I intentionally let the cut callous over before I put it into water to prevent rot, etc. and seem to have about the same growth rate. Also! when I go to pot cuttings that I've rooted in water, I like to sort of coat the wet roots in with dry dirt, it seems to make them a bit less fragile during the planting process.
Thanks for this! I actually just stuck a cutting in a stem first in a water jar and now it’s dying 😐 I wish I had read up on the nodes first but I’m gonna try to save her!
I think just about everyone makes that mistake! when i first got into plants i killed a crap ton. well even now im killing plants.... gotta learn somehow!
Thanks for the descriptions of ways to propagate pothos. I got a few cuttings of an overgrown pothos that had been in a very low light area, underwatered, and that had several very long vines. I placed two cuttings in jar of water by a window with strong sunlight and left it alone for two or three months. The root systems slowly filled the jar and the vines had those root nodes which I had assumed incorrectly were branches where more vines would develop. I potted the vine that had thrived in water only, leaving what looked like a new leaf sprouting from the stem poking up through the soil. I think my new plant must have been shocked from being transferred out of a water-only environment to soil. It would have been best had I known that more moist soil would have been the better way to pot it. Your approach to sharing results over time is helpful too.
this is the exact video i was looking for! was visiting some family friends and they had a huge pothos that i got a clipping from. such a cool way to share among friends. thank you for taking the time to show what each method turned out like months later, thats really helpful!
Pothos along with monstera will grow amazing with the root system fully submerged given the right nutrients such as a fish tank. Thanks for the video, I'll now have a hundred pothos plants to give away this spring!
Thank you so much for this super easy tutorial! I just did my 1st propagation of a pothos I have that was dying and I did the multiple clippings method! Wish me luck!
I have been growin pothos from the cuttings for while now and have been learning so much ! A leaf had actually broke off and it was so healthy and beautiful I mean for real this leaf had no long or stem anything it was just a little stem that leaf comes on 🍃and some reason I couldn't let it go lol so I stuck in small pot with soil and it grew 2 other leaves in few weeks and is now a full little plant with 6 leaves in 2 mths! These plants are amazing beautiful plants that you can grow so easily ! I can't believe it
Thanks so much for breaking this down . I am not ready to give up growing plants. Pothos is a great plant. I've got this...with your help. Thanks again
Thank you so much for putting the crazy amount of time to make this video and show us the Pothos propagation. Truly appreciated it! Love and light your way 💕✨
The ONLY video that I understood out of a dozen! Thanks so much for being so clear! I have a “one vine” Pothos and could NOT find an answer as to why! Until this video! Thanks!
Great technical video and really helpful. Brilliant filming and editing. easy on the eye too. I recently acquired x2 Pothos one regular green and a Marble Queen and so this video was particularly relevant. I'm no stranger to propagation methods but this video has taught me about the difference between producing single and multi vine. Great comments here too which offer some useful tips. Thanks Rachel and Gustavo - I'll give this a whirl
Yeah it just seems way more efficient! I like this method more now too! I gotta get me a monstera and get it propagating! Thanks for watching and sharing your experience!
I just had to prune my hanging pothos plant because the vines grew until they touched the floor. This video was super helpful and hopefully I’ll have tons of new plants soon!!
I like the way you observed everything that was happening It would have taken a lot of patience to put this clip together and I appreciated the time lapse/updates. . I have a cebu blue clipping (rare in my country), so I'm doing method #2 after watching your video. One in water, one straight in soil and one in sphagnum. Gotta hedge my bets! Now I know how long I will have to wait for the roots. I might tie a black sock around the class jar, so I can remove it to see the progress of the roots, but keep it in darkness.
You showed the final clip and said it was January so I’m wondering what month you started this process so I can get an idea of how long it took for it to get that long. Thanks!
Thank you! I like putting the plant in a glass vase with water and hanging with a bohemian style rope. I love how long they are and I cut some and put them in new water. They did great but I have a ton more to do and want to make sure I do it right. This was incredibly helpful.
The best way to hold up the plants while propagating is to use an old Gatorade or Powerade bottle. The opening is large enough to get about 10 nodes through and hold the leaves out of the water. Easy to change water and it's as simple as cutting the bottle to get them out and place them in their permanent spots.
@10:45 anyone else catch the fork holding up the vine?
I would say more at 10:48
that's so smart tho, A+ for ingenuity

Roots grow easier if there are less leafs taking up nutrients, ur second method had indicidual leaves. Loveee ur videos, so informative!
interesting
Thank you so much! I've been nervous about how to propogate my pothos plants but by the time your video had ended mine were already cut and placed in a glass container. Definitely gave me the confidence to give this a try!
Nice, hope its going well!
Big brain
Can they stay in water and not need to be potted in soil?
Javier Ceron no if it stays in too long, the leaves start turning brown
Karmen Aldaz how long should you leave them in before putting up? I have a cutting that has roots but small piece of roots
@@franconavarro342 I know one gal says she waits until they are growing secondary roots.
I like the bushy version. I am going to try this on my Pothos. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching! And good luck!
Thank you for showing how the plant progressed.
no problem! I hate the videos that just tell you to do something but never show even a few days after the fact! anyways, thanks for watching!
great way you show this step by step way easier then some videos. Thanks
You're welcome!
Glad I could help!
Pothos along with monstera will grow amazing with the root system fully submerged given the right nutrients such as a fish tank. Thanks for the video, I'll now have a hundred pothos plants to give away this spring!
sweetheart! you answered all my questions about planting the cuttings from my philo! thank-you!!
Thanks for watching, glad It helped!
This is the best video on pothos I've seen. Simply because you stuck at it so long to see how they looked well into their adult lives 😁😁
Thank you so much for this super easy tutorial! I just did my 1st propagation of a pothos I have that was dying and I did the multiple clippings method! Wish me luck!
I watched 4 or 5 videos before I landed on yours. Thank you I subscribed👍🏽
Thanks this helped! Taking my pothos plant and trying to grow in my aquariums and this helped a lot as far as where to trim.
Glad it helped!
Great Vid. Keep up the Great work. At 64, (an amateur Gardner for over 40 years), you taught me quite a bit about the Pothos.
Thanks for watching! glad it helped!
Thank you. Your persistence is appreciated and the step by step together with you over time feature is just we a beginner like me needs.
no problem, good luck on your propagation!
@@TechplantChannel I am about to start. We live in the UK. Our first time doing propagation. So excited.... I know , I need to get out more hahah.
I can't believe it
Thank you for showing the progression over time.. It really makes me appreciate this plant a lot more
My pleasure
most helpful video on propagation pothos ever! thank you 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this video! I like the multi cut method, had never considered doing that. Just took some new pothos cuttings after watching this. 🙌🏼🌿
Yeah same here! once I learned about it I wanted to make the video to spread the knowledge. I always did the one big cutting method.
Thanks so much for breaking this down . I am not ready to give up growing plants. Pothos is a great plant. I've got this...with your help. Thanks again
Glad it was helpful! and good luck with your plants! never give up!
Thank you so much for putting the crazy amount of time to make this video and show us the Pothos propagation. Truly appreciated it! Love and light your way 💕✨
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
The ONLY video that I understood out of a dozen! Thanks so much for being so clear! I have a “one vine” Pothos and could NOT find an answer as to why! Until this video! Thanks!
Glad the video could help!
Super helpful, thanks very much! I was at my plant with some scissors and decided to check in with UA-cam first. Glad I did!
Thanks for watching!
This might be the most helpful video I've seen on propogating a pothos plant. Thank you!
I watched this twice. So helpful! Thank you so much! Very well explained, clear, and well shot and edited :)
thanks for watching!
this is the best plant video i've ever watched!!
Thanks Rachel and Gustavo - I'll give this a whirl
woah that was a thick vine at the end!!! thank you for this video! very helpful as always:)
"I don't know what to do with this" my friend! Take more clippings :D you can fill out the base so it looks fuller the way you find more appealing!
Thanks for the tips!
I have been searching videos about pothos for months and this has been the best thus far! Thanks for the clear details!!
Glad it could help! thanks for watching
Great to have the comparison. I’d use the one long vine as the next plant to propagate from 😁👍🏻
Thanks for watching!
Im new to propagation but this gives me all the ideas that i need
Good luck!
I used to only do the single vine propagation. Switched to single leaf/node and never looked back. Even worked on my M. deliciosa and adansonii
Good luck!
Thanks! We’re getting into house plants 🌱 and I was thinking about buying a cutting. I didn’t really know what that meant and now I do!
awesome! enjoy the hobby its ton of fun.
I’m going to try both these approaches as my first time propagating pothos… wish me luck!
This was very informative. Thanks for breaking it down and making it easy.
Thanks for watching!
This is the best instructional video I've seen on propagating Pothos.
Thank you!
Thanks for putting time into showing how the plant would grow with each method 👍
No problem 👍
This was so informative I like the bushier method. Thanks.
This was very insightful and I prefer the fuller process. Thanks for sharing 🤍🕊
me too
You showed the final clip and said it was January so I’m wondering what month you started this process so I can get an idea of how long it took for it to get that long. Thanks!
I think it was about 4-5 months
Thank you! I came to the comment section hoping someone asked this question
BEST VIDEO I HAVE FOUND!!! You gave us updates and knowledge. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
I watched 4 videos before finally finding what I was looking for, which was water propagation to planting into soil, so thank you!!! 👍🏼😁 New sub here!
Thanks for watching and subbing!
Thank you! I like putting the plant in a glass vase with water and hanging with a bohemian style rope. I love how long they are and I cut some and put them in new water. They did great but I have a ton more to do and want to make sure I do it right. This was incredibly helpful.
very cool way to grow them! thanks for watching
The best way to hold up the plants while propagating is to use an old Gatorade or Powerade bottle. The opening is large enough to get about 10 nodes through and hold the leaves out of the water. Easy to change water and it's as simple as cutting the bottle to get them out and place them in their permanent spots.
Good advice! I see some people start propagation in those skinny neck beakers and I always wonder how they will get em out once all the roots form lol
Thanks for showing what happens to the plant over time. This is the first video I saw that does that
its my favorite part of making these videos!
The multiple cuttings grow fast because it only focus on the single leaf compared the yellow one which needs a lot of energy to grow
