I hate how the show got canceled just as they were really starting to get deep into the characters.

Those weren't hallucinations. Those were glimpses into their true characters beneath their social veneers.
    Loved that scene.

I do love the thought in Jaynes head is guilt when he sees River, shows that he's not the heartless asshole he's often seen as. It being followed up by Books is such an interesting dichotomy, not what you'd expect of the two of them.

Mal's inner thoughts are heartbreaking. He's so hurt and feels so helpless about Inara leaving that all he can do is play tough guy and tell himself that nothing matters. And Inara is inwardly begging him to stop hiding his feelings and show her whether or not she means anything to him, even just to put her out of her misery. One of the better-written romances in television history.

Does he mean nothing matters? Or that his feelings don't mean a thing or that all the time he and Inara spent together means nothing if she's just going to leave and that's it?

I keep telling myself to be grateful for what we have. I keep lying to myself that it's enough.

I don't think I ever put together until now that these were actual psychic hallucinations and not just some paranoid mania. That puts the whole thing in an entirely new light.

I love the ending shot the way it goes from serene to panic and chaos.
With her not comprehending what is wrong.

Since she's hearing all their inner thoughts, Book's was really interesting. It's not at all the kind of thing you'd expect him, or any Shepherd, to say. But it is human, he's not perfect and he likely struggles to walk a holy life just like anyone. And we know he wasn't always a devout man, so there's a likely a layer there of cynicism, violence, and apathy he probably tries to suppress and replace with acceptance and forgiveness. It was jarring the first time I saw it, but it really does deepen the mystery of his character.

I think this scene was a hint about Book's past. In other episodes we learn that he knows a lot about criminal activity and police procedures. Also as the thought we hear from Jayne is one he is ashamed of we may be ment to think Book is ashamed of his thought too. My guess at Book's past is that he used to be a high ranking member of the federation police force and that he did things that he later deeply regretted so he became a Shepard to atone for his sins. Just a guess but it does explain why Book has his skills and knowledge, and also why he received such good treatment when he was dying and they took him to the federal cruiser.

What's the line? Good art is never truly done saying things to people?

You know, it's interesting that she heard Jubal Early's voice right before she "woke up" and traversed the boat. I wonder if she got a hold of the gun because she knew Early was coming.

Don't think it's hallucinations, i think she reads their minds

It's probably a little of column A, a little of column B. Even if she is telepathic, her own fears and biases can influence what she's seeing - just like would be the case of any other perception.

I see it like this I feel like its why she usually is a panicky mess when shit hits the fan. She feels everyone’s emotions, including her own. And she is physically incapable of ignoring the emotions. The part of her brain responsible for it was damaged.

She has psychic abilities; in the movie she sense the approach of the Reavers before it's possible to see or hear their ship even, but I don't think can straight up read thoughts word for word. She's more empathic than telepathic.

That's the whole idea of what they were showing. She either read their minds or felt their emotions. It just came across as hallucinations

This show was cancelled for the usual reason. Dumb network executives didn't understand it and so assumed no one else would or could understand it. The tragedy of really GOOD sci-fi drama for as long as I can remember.

And moronic TV "executives" cancelled the show because they didn't "get it".

If only we could find something like vicious preternaturally strong zombies to toss all but one of those tv execs to. Then we give the last one a choice. We'd have the show back in no time.

"Psychotic hallucinations" is a vary derogatory and faulty way of describing this.... River is "unrestricted" in what she absorbs when it comes to outer stimuli. Parts of her brain is surgically removed and she is because of that literally incapable of filtering her input. She didn't have a psychotic episode in this clip - she was flooded with external stimuli from the other humans around her and reacting to it. That was one of the "skills" the Blue Sun was deliberayly trying to enhance in her....

    • @usul573
      @usul573 3 роки тому +2

Psychic, not psychotic. I could say it's a hallucination in so much as it's like she is seeing their thoughts.
