Good one Norm. Another great “ how to” . Wide Bay Bar is a crossing that has to be respected.

Hi Norm love watching your videos .When that lagoon existed 20 odd years ago there was old machinery like steam boilers etc it was a lot shallower then .But hopefully they are easily seen so no one anchors near them at low tide rgds Peter

Hi Peter, Yes I remember the lagoon back then. It's funny how it appears and disappears.
No sign of the machinery when last there. May have been gobbled up by the sand.
Certainly a great spot to wait for weather to cross Wide Bay.
      Cheers dude

Thank you again for sharing Norm, have you thought of rigging a Mast camera for an elevated view, we are all spoilt with drone footage and Google maps for their other perspective views of anchorages and bar crossings. Keep safe and thanks for sharing these very informative episodes for us.

Yeah Dudes, Have a drone, but it has been a bit finicky lately.
Have changed a few things and we are in the air again.

Hi Norm: could you explain a bit about the "lagoon' anchorage at Double Island Point? I understand it has formed only in the last few years. I haven't been under DI Point for years; last time it was a roll-y open anchorage. I'm planning to go over the bar on a high tide in early July and that will require an overnight from Mooloolaba....but I could avoid that if I could anchor up for the night in the 'lagoon'. I have a 57' monohull motor cruiser, full displacement, draws 1.4m. Is the lagoon a tenable anchorage for me, assuming calm conditions of course? Thanks for you advice in advance...

      Hi Paul,
Yep the lagoon comes and goes. It was there 30 odd years ago and hasn't been around for a long while. But it is back and a great spot to wait for the bar. very comfortable.
I reckon it carries about 1.4 at low tide. there were a couple of monos in there last visit. The cats do it easy.
I'd have a poke in at High and do the calcs dude.
Great spot for a day or two or more, if you can use it.
