22:32 - The random cop called Stan probably wasn't a nod to Stan Lee. I don't know if it's the same one in this episode - if so I never noticed him - but there is a recurring cop character called Stan in this series, who is loosely based on a pretty important comic character named Stan Carter - a major figure in Peter David's run on the Spider-Man comics in the 80s. His story never made it into this series despite a few small nods, so I guess it's not a spoiler to write it here: In the comics, there was a very famous story arc called "The Death of Jean DeWolffe", in which Captain DeWolffe was found murdered in her appartment. She was a police officer that in the late Silver/early Bronze Age had basically served as Spider-Man's Jim Gordon. The story basically kicked off the trend of Spider-Man becoming increasingly dark, starting in the 80s and ending in 1994 with the "Clone Saga". Anyway, in those comics, Stan Carter replaced Jean deWolffe as police captain. He was this jovial friendly guy that gave Spider-Man all resources necessary for him to try tracking down Jean's murderer, a masked serial killer called the Sin-Eater. Sin-Eater was running around, killing lawyers, civil rights activits and critics of police violence, as well as "the liberal media". Sin-Eater also killed an old friend of Daredevil, so both heroes are finally hunting for him, but with different attitudes: Spider-Man is much more reckless and has a sort of "righteous fury", while Daredevil is more objective and professional. Eventually, Spider-Man learns that Stan Carter IS the Sin-Eater: after his partner had died, Stan had signed up to an experimental training programme with SHIELD that left him mentally unstable (but no super-powers), Now he was taking revenge on the "overly restrictive" justice system, that didn't let him do "what needs to be done" when handling criminals. When Sin-Eater targets Betty Brant (Pete's first girlfriend, JJJ's secretary), Spider-Man ends up beating him almost to death, and develops a sort of feud with Daredevil for a while: Daredevil points out that Spidey's own approach to the situation ("I am justice, I'll do what I have to do") is essentially the one Carter had as a police officer, and the one that drove Stan to kill in the first place. Another problem is that Carter is eventually judged by court to be mentally unfit for prison, which Spider-Man refuses to accept. The public almost mauls Carter to death and Spider-Man is perfectly content just watching until Daredevil jumps in and almost gets trampled to death. There later was another story, a sequel to the above, in which Carter returned from psychiatric treatment, with a stutter and unable to walk without a cane - brain damage from the beating Spidey gave him. Carter tried to help the police find another criminal but no-one trusted him, and in the end Spider-Man publicly called him a murderer and killer, which caused his psychological issues to resurface. In the end, Carter returns to villany but it ends up more as a sort of "suicide-by-cop" situation. The story is very famous and referenced in another story arc that most people even outside the comic fandom are roughly familiar with. In the comics, at one point, there was another suspect for the Sin-Eater (I think his name was Mr. Grieg?) The guy was also mentally ill and kind of gaslit himself into thinking that he was the SIn-Eater. He made a confession, and the exclusive right to interview him was secured by an investigative journalist called Eddie Brock, who built his entire career around that case. Then Peter Parker helped reveal that it actually was Carter, causing Brock to lose everything. In the comics, this is the motivation for Eddie Brock to target Peter after he becomes Venom. (I wanted to summarise that in two or three sentences, but it turned out a lot longer) Obviously, none of that stuff can make it into a cartoon like this, so it's just a reference - you'll notice that pretty much every irrelevant side character that is named actually corresponds to an actual comic character. In the series, I think he is later shown patrolling around with Jean deWolffe, his partner in the series, which is really weird. He never is more than an easter egg though.

he noticed the cop named Stan, He's an actual comic character but I'll save that for the end of the series, if I remember. not that it matters too much the show was cancelled before they could anything with him
At last, you guys are FINALLY starting the greatest Spider-Man cartoon and one of the best adaptions of Spider-Man period. In your Across The Spider-Verse reaction, you guys were silent when this Spider-Man made a cameo with Josh Keaton returning to voice him (probably because you didn't know who he was). But I guarantee that after watching this series, you'll understand why his Spider-Man was given a speaking cameo out of all the other nameless variants and why anyone who's seen this show lost their shit after seeing him again for the first time in nearly 15 years since the show was canceled in 2009, even if it was just for a few seconds and a single line. Get ready for a Spectacular ride!
Absolutely love this show and love that you guys are reacting to it now. Great animation and the artstyle is made by same person behind the Kim possible artstyle.
I’m really happy to see that you guys are watching and reacting to this because this is one of my favourite Spider-Man animated shows along with the ‘94 Spider-Man animated series as well.
YES! This is the Spider-man I grew up on, and nerds way more experienced than I agree that this show has the best portrayal of the intersections between Spidey and Peter's lives. I'm so glad you guys are watching this!
In order to make sense of decades of comics, the series often combines different characters in order to streamline the narrative. Originally Osborne's assistant Mendell Strom and the Vulture were two separate villains. The former took revenge by building robots to wreck havock on Oscorp and might've killed Norman were it not for the intervention of Spider-Man (Amazing Spider-Man #37).
This was the show I watched as a kid, so all these villain designs like Vulture wearing black and red and Electro gaving a full suit that sparks out is what I'm used to for villains. I'm actually more used to the red and black vulture design since that's what I grew up on!
Josh Keaton is a legendary voice actor for Spider-Man! He also voices him in Marvel VS Capcom 3, and Spider-Man Edge of Time! Not to mention he's also a cameo in Across The Spiderverse! He says one line, but it was enough for me lol

This entire series is a love letter to the first 40 or so issues of Spider-Man. Growing up I reread those stories countless times via the Essential Series (complies twenty issues into one book although it's black and white). As such it was a delight to see some of the classic baddies fully realized seriously the Enforcers don't really get that much love.
So excited you guys are finally giving this show a chance. I can guarantee by the end you will feel the void we all feel with the loss of the cancellation. It’s so good and Josh Keaton is an iconic staple for Spidey. Can’t wait to enjoy the ride with you guys!!
This is regarded as one of if not the best Spider-Man series. Lots of great voice work, Peter's voice actor Josh Keaton voiced Steve Rogers/Captain America in What If
@21:00 funnily enough Lacey Chabert(whom aaron mentioned) voices Daisy in Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes A:EMH also has one of the best intros imo (the best will always be Black Panther intro/outro imo)

One of the best Spider-Man (if not superhero) adaptations ever. A near perfect blend of the original '60's Lee-Ditko-Romita Sr. comics, the Bendis-Bagley Ultimate run, and the Raimi films. No wonder this show was so good lol
I’m so happy to finally see you guys watching this show. I really hope you both enjoy it. In my opinion this is one of the best (if not the best) Spider-Man show, I think it’s practically perfect in every aspect. I can’t wait to get to watch your reactions and hear your thoughts on this series.

he noticed the cop named Stan, He's an actual comic character but I'll save that for the end of the series, if I remember. not that it matters too much the show was cancelled before they could anything with him
Trust me, that Spider-Signal is pretty handy!
Now that you guys are watching this, Since the creator also did Young Justice, Will you guys be doing the newest season of that as well at some point?
Fr, I think szn four was much better than szn 3 in terms of quality
I think they’ve said they don’t have plans to do it right now
@@RSRye Definitely, Season 4 felt much closer to 1-2, I feel like Season 3 was decent but it kinda lost it's way.
The song you were thinking of is Queens of the Stone Age, "No One Knows". You're welcome 😁
Absolutely love this show and love that you guys are reacting to it now. Great animation and the artstyle is made by same person behind the Kim possible artstyle.
90s Spiderman will ALWAYS be better. Fight me.
I'm so glad you guys are watching this!
ive been waiting sooooo long for someone to watch this show
I love this show, I can’t wait for your next reaction for the next episode
HELLL YEAH ONE OF MY FAVES, PATREON DID GOOD
In order to make sense of decades of comics, the series often combines different characters in order to streamline the narrative.
One of the most consistent animated shows I’ve ever watched. Crazy how much they weaved into just 26 episodes. Layers on layers
How did I not see this until now!?!?!?!?
Josh Keaton is a legendary voice actor for Spider-Man! He also voices him in Marvel VS Capcom 3, and Spider-Man Edge of Time! Not to mention he's also a cameo in Across The Spiderverse! He says one line, but it was enough for me lol
THIS IS HOWNI FOUND OUT YALL STARTED THIS SERIES, THIS IS MY FAVORITE SPIDER-MAN ADAPTATION OF ALL TIME AND I CANT WAIT FOR YALL TO SEE HOW IT UNFOLDS ❤️
Ahh the memories this series gave me
Maybe, one day, you guys will perhaps watch the best Spider-Man show, from the 90's
I always liked TAS and Ultimate more, but this is definitely a fun one. Unlimited was cool, too.
Awesome! Very keen to see what you guys think of it. Glad you're watching it again, Rick 😁
That "what? Are you serious?! impression was excellent.
Lots of great voice work, Peter's voice actor Josh Keaton voiced Steve Rogers/Captain America in What If
@21:00 funnily enough Lacey Chabert(whom aaron mentioned) voices Daisy in Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes
A:EMH also has one of the best intros imo (the best will always be Black Panther intro/outro imo)
You were reacting to my favorite show (Ben 10) and now you are reacting to my favorite Spiderman show! I love you guys 🔥
Fun fact, the first three episodes of this season are listed on the chalkboard in the classroom.
Commenters, patreons, friends, etc need to inform Blind Wave. On Disney+ the episode 'First Steps' is actually 2x05 and not 2x13. They need to react to that one after 2x04 to avoid sheer confusion.
You guys definitely will to see the 90's spiderman after this 😂😂😂
Hay blind wave The spectacular spider-man also appeared in spider-man across the spider-man
I binged this show back when this Spider-Man appeared on a poster for Spiderverse last year, it's such an amazing (pun intended) show!
Really glad that this finally won one of the polls. Fantastic and, dare I say, spectacular show. I can tell you guys are gonna love it.
One of my favorite childhood shows that got axed way too soon. Looking forward to keeping up with the reactions for this one.
One of the best Spider-Man (if not superhero) adaptations ever. A near perfect blend of the original '60's Lee-Ditko-Romita Sr. comics, the Bendis-Bagley Ultimate run, and the Raimi films. No wonder this show was so good lol
I got a little hyped because I thought it was Spiderman from 98'. But I hope everyone else enjoy this🙂
Never would I have expected Rick to be the only one to have seen this show. A pleasant surprise.
"Is that...The Leaper?" Actually he's a different villain called Ricochet!
I’m so happy to finally see you guys watching this show. I really hope you both enjoy it. In my opinion this is one of the best (if not the best) Spider-Man show, I think it’s practically perfect in every aspect. I can’t wait to get to watch your reactions and hear your thoughts on this series.
Love this series so much
Time for them to join the rest of us in the joy of experiencing Spectacular Spider-Man and misery of knowing it doesn't have a proper end.
the best adaptation of teenage peter parker imo
I involuntarily belted out the intro song .. I didn’t even know I still knew the words 😵💫🫨
Such a smart way to set up Eddie so early on, most of the time we don't see him set up until theyre already gonna do the venom story
Wow what a surprise! Happy to know this won the poll! This will do for Severance not winning the poll and being removed from the future polls 😂 Happy to get on board with you guys and go for another swing with the Spidey 🕸️ I also hope you eventually put 90s Spider Man show on the poll as well, the designs and voice acting in that show is top tier 🔥👍
Great show. You guys are gonna dig it.
If they enjoy this show then I think they should watch Iron man armored adventures. I loved that show.
Can't believe this got cancelled!
I'm so freaking excited for this 😆 I'm not ready to go on the rollercoaster of emotions when it comes to my love/hate relationship with Peter again, but man am I pumped to see the crew enjoy this!
FINALLY THIS IS AMAZING I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THE REST OF THIS
Or should I say spectacular
Let's f-kin GOOOOOOO
One of two of the best spideys animations (other is TAS 94)
I hope they react to the 90s spider man animated series at some point
This is why you stay subscribed. Even if you don’t know any of the shows they’re reacting to, eventually they’ll cover one you love. That’s why you keep notifications on 🔥
Keep Calm & Be Epic - Amazing New Show! Another great reaction Wave Crew!
The Eddie Brock being Peter’s friend thing was inspired by the Ultimate Spider-Man comics because the two were friends in that universe.
