    In the 70's and 80's we had music. We were not separated by genetics. Everyone regardless of background, culture, or heritage listened to and engulfed the same music.

    What matters is not that Bobby is white, but that he is one of the most talented people in the music business who created this timeless, soulful, smooth jazzy, fantastic gem of a song that will always sound great.

      @@yeahimdom2677 I agree with you. I thought he was black from 1978 until I learned a number of years ago that he wasn’t.

    Bobby Caldwell is still recording and performing. He is also an excellent songwriter - wrote Heart of Mine that was covered by Boz Scaggs. One of his songs from the mid 90's, Don't Lead Me On, is a great song with a killer arrangement. Definitely an artist to do a deep dive on.

    Im 60 years old and Bobby put this song out in 1979 while I was a junior in high school. We played the hell out of this song in our class get togethers and we always had the best times of our lives. Dang, I really miss those old times. The '70's and into the early '80's this is the music that we listened to and partied to on weekends, what a blast we had. The hundreds of groups during that era are iconic and beloved. Loved to see your reaction to this song, it was truly authentic and I loved that, awesome. Thx. Love and Peace.

    Bobby Wrote this song in 1978, at the suggestion of his Producer for his first Album... And, as the story goes, he wrote it in a matter of minutes!

    If you were surprised listening to Bobby, pull up the UA-cam video of Daryl Hall and John Oates singing a cover of I Miss You,(Live from Daryl’s House) originally done by Teddy Pendergrass when he was with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. Now that will taken you for a blue eyed soul spin.

    When Tom Jones came on the stage in 1968 at the Apollo, people froze and stopped clapping, but Sir Tom brought them out of their trance. And the black folks chose him as the winner of the best soul song of 1979,boy was they shocked, occourse they took the award back, because they didn't know he was white, I'll be 66, I knew Bobby Caldwell and Tom Jones were white, because as a black kid from the ghetto I stayed in the house during summer time and read books and watched varieties TV shows.

    • @andrewcoleman6349
      @andrewcoleman6349 2 роки тому

      I meant the black folks chose ,'What you won't do for love' for the soul record of the year, not Tom Jones, because they thought Bobby Caldwell was black, they felt foolish, at the award show 🤣😁😂

    A lot of people forget that Bobby is a Jazz man. He was heavily influenced by black artists, Afro-Cuban music, and Latin artists. The guy is a true musician too, not just a singer; he’s supremely talented and can mix it up to where he sounds more traditionally “white” than the soulful technique he uses here.

    Thats a reproduction of his ( Album Cover ) , which was actually Genius. It wasn't staged to fool people that he is White, because anyone that ever loved this song and his albums already knew he was white, including older generation Blacks.

    Bobby Caldwell was signed to a record label that was a jazz soul label, they didn't know how to introduce this song to their label because of him being white and they thought their listeners would be turned off by that and wouldn't give the song a chance. Bobby had this picture of him sitting on the bench that he always liked and went to his producer and record label to pitch the idea of using this to let the listeners to hear his voice before they saw him and the song was played by the soul, jazz, easy listening and white stations. This was a huge hit for Bobby Caldwell rip
