I never thought I'd say this but I love your awesome playing on the Montage! Brings me back to my high school days! now I can't decide which one should I get, this or the Motif or the Korg Kronos 2 2015 88 Keys!
Nice playing Man I wonder are the Wurlitzer Electric Piano Sounds on the Montage as good as on the Korg Kronos 2, does the Montage 8 have a Metal or Plastic Body i prefer a Metal body.
Still much prefer the sound of my SY99's over the Montage even if it is has the 8-Op. FM engine. Sold my FS1R for same reason.... '99 much warmer, have more of an emotional attachment to its FM tone if you know what I mean. Which to me is what it's all about right? Nice vid
'Montage' is really a modern interpretation of the SY77/99. The only thing that put me off Montage initially was the price but then I remembered when the SY99 came out, which if memory serves was back in 1991? it was comparable in price. I think it retailed at the time for $4500/£3476. I think we all forget how expensive things like the SY99/SY77 were back then? However the SY99 is definitely one of those classic synths that is still as relevant today as it was 27 years ago and if it does what you need it to do then absolutely, why spend a fortune on something newer? I do like the Montage but I definitely can't afford one :(
I'd buy that, YnnyY&nne OilRyser, or at least consider it. If I were born 5 years sooner than I was, my first synth would likely have been an SY77 or 99 instead of the Alesia QS6 I got when I was seventeen, and I would likely be using it to this day. Feel like I missed out on something particularly sweet as such and would love the idea of getting something like it new.
was looking for a review on the montage 7 keybed, for playing emotional piano parts.. i saw your review on youtube, and was hoping you could help answer some questions for me. basically, hows the action on the 7? when i gig, i often need to play a solo song, wher ei really want to be able to play emotionally. however, ive found that difficult on synth keys. ive never had a semi wegihted keyboard though (only synth, or hammer action). so my quesiton is, can you really get all that piano articulation on the montage 7 keyboard, close to what you could on a weighted keyboard? i know it obviously wont feel the same for a pianist, and it would need some technique changing, but for the overall effect, is it possible to play emotional moving piano pieces, and to trigger all those lucious layers of piano velocity, on the montage 7 ? how many velocity layers of the montage piano can you trigger, from the keyboard? like super soft/soft/medium/medium loud/loud/banging? or less amounts of levels? or more? thanks!
The Montage 7 has a really great quality semi-weighted keybed and you can, depending on your skill and playing style make it work well for piano pieces. I would not say it's ideal but it's a good compromise and as you already mentioned, you may have to adapt your playing style a little in order to get the best out of it. Certainly you can play very nuanced piano pieces with a little practice. Regarding velocity layers I can't remember off hand but I think it's around 9 or 10 and you can select from 5 velocity curves, Normal, Soft, Hard, Wide and Fixed. If you choose 'Fixed' you can manually edit the velocity but you can't create your own curves, at least not from the keyboard anyway. Not sure if you can edit that via software but I doubt it. The only way you can be really sure about this though is to play the Montage 7 for yourself. You may like it but you may decide you really do need a fully weighted keybed. In which case the Montage 8 is where you need to look. For me that would be ideal as it has a 'Balanced hammer action' keybed which is great for acoustic piano but also works really well for synth sounds.
E piano is wonderful to listen to. Man! Keep it up with e piano! Mmmmmmmmm. Gorgeous sounds of e piano. I know there's different sounds if the e piano and their all wonderful to listen to. Would you make a video of you take my breath away?
Yes it does and of course you can load in many others including DX7 & Motif sounds. Also Yamaha are giving away the Bösendorfer 290 Imperial library for Montage owners at the moment :)
Not sure but did you mean to ask if "Montage" is better than the Kronos 2? If that is the case you have to bear in mind that they are very different boards and aimed at different markets. The Montage can be best described as a "performance synth' where the Kronos is a more traditional all in one "workstation". It's true that Kronos has more synth engines so in that respect is very versatile and it also has sampling, Karma 2 and the larger touch screen BUT, Montage is great for live performance. It doesn't take two minutes to boot up (approx 15 seconds by my calculation) and the controllers give you a fantastic way to bring a performance to life. It also sounds great of course and the blending of FM-X and AWM-2 can make for some massive sounds! The 'super knob' is also not just a gimmick. It enhances your performance in a way you have to experience in order to appreciate. Really the decision comes down to how much you like the sound of each keyboard. They are both fantastic. Make a list of what you actually "need" from your keyboard and then decided which one is right for you.
I love his cover of "I'll be over you". It fits perfectly and i rewatched all over and over again. FM is one of the greatest sounds in the 80s :)

Dynamite Kid Montage 88 keys version.
Dynamite Kid Montage replaced the Motif flagship
I don't want to learn playing piano because if I do I'm afraid I don't have this satisfaction feeling anymore when listening sounds like this
Que piano mais bonito do mundo tá doido .....
I have always thought that modern keyboard/synthesizers sound too thick and soft. Oddly enough, they lack the thinness and hard attack of older synths

Nice playing... but im still undecided getting the montage. i have a motif
the montage is a little bit better than the motif
Plus it has all the Motif sounds on board.
And powerful 8 operator fm synthesis. ;)
Jade Pascual is Motif better than the Korg Kronos 2 2015 model? Thanks.
