First thing I thought was Jason and the Argonauts so I'm glad you mentioned it. I and my girlfriend love that film so I'm going to grab this kit and some 'Greeks' from somewhere and build her a diorama. Great detailed review as usual.
A diorama like that would look awesome. Highly recommend picking up a sprue of Victrix’s new Greek Hoplites to represent Argonauts, I had a review of them up earlier in the year.
Yeah I found them very enjoyable to put together, and now I want to make a whole army based around those skeletons with the Dark Age shields for a modern take on those 6th Ed GW figures. Makes me want to pick up their skeletons horses now, as well.
Yeah with skeleton plastics from WGA, Oathmark, Warlord/Wargames Factory, Mantic, and GW, there are tons of options to choose from. Goonhammer did a fun comparison article a couple of years back that is worth a read: www.goonhammer.com/the-goonhammer-guide-to-28mm-multipart-skeletons/
I initially thought that, but the bow is in the same hand. It’s really strange, and the only thing I can think of is that it’s meant to be a hand that rests on the shield on the ground like you see in some period art.
Yeah, totally agree. There are probably a half dozen tricks that could be used here, and as someone who loves kitbashing and modelling it doesn’t worry me at all. Still, I try to keep newer hobbyists and kit purists in mind with these reviews, and don’t want to assume everyone thinks the way I do.
Hi, have you thought to add shield after you had painted the model, for me shield gets in the way and some parts needs to to be painted again. Also frostgrave barbarians kit is great for kitbashing with victrix germans or naked fanatics mainly weapons and heads, to make barbaric looking barbarians :D. If you ever find a need for something like that.
Thanks for the tip on the Barbarians, that’s definitely on my list of sets I want to pick up and review. I typically add shields right away, because my heavy wash painting style allows me to dodge most of the issues with painting around the backs of shields. Also, I’m quite lazy, and don’t want to wait to attach shields, hah!
Not sure, as I don’t have it. These appear to be mostly the same size as GW’s newer VC skeletons from a proportions standpoint, so if those skulls are compatible with the VC skeletons I think they’d work here.
Yeah I like their interpretation of Classic Fantasy as “generic fantasy” so that we as hobbyists can kitbash and theme however we want. Need more options on the market like this!
I don’t have it but I dealt with the set a long, long time ago when it still belonged to Wargames Factory, and I remember the proportions being about the same.
Good to have confirmation about GW heads being compatible. They look to be about the same size as their newer undead stuff but I don’t have any on hand to confirm.

I love that you take the time to take a good look at the sprues and actually build the models. Hobby gold!
Hey, thanks for that! It helps that I really enjoy pouring over sprues and rambling at length so this is hardly even work for me, haha
I love this kit, it's great value for generic skeletons you will need in about every fantasy rpg or solo game out there

I'm really enjoying these one-sprue-reviews
I’ll keep them rolling! They’re very easy to produce.
I’m a huge fan of this kit. I have been toying with the idea of getting several different skeleton sets to make a multicultural undead horde.

I have mixed unifs of these and those from Mantic Games and kitbashed minis from bits from GW, Oathmark.
Perhaps the spare arm is drawing the bow?
I initially thought that, but the bow is in the same hand. It’s really strange, and the only thing I can think of is that it’s meant to be a hand that rests on the shield on the ground like you see in some period art.
You could always cut the ends off the bow, making a left hand in a fist.

GW sell a big box of skulls only - human as well as orc/alien skulls...are they fully compatible?
Not sure, as I don’t have it. These appear to be mostly the same size as GW’s newer VC skeletons from a proportions standpoint, so if those skulls are compatible with the VC skeletons I think they’d work here.
I like these minis they provude endless kitbashing opportunities with other minis such as Oatmark and Mantic. GW are a bit bigger.

Yes a good older set, awe with the other set from Warlord Games you end up with plenty of left arms & more options.
are they full compatible with the Warlord set?
I don’t have it but I dealt with the set a long, long time ago when it still belonged to Wargames Factory, and I remember the proportions being about the same.
Parts are.
If you need skeletons, get these! I love it, heads are gw compatible. I use them on my palanites in necromunda

🔥👍❤️
Your doing these reviews too fast I can’t keep up!
I’m trying to get them all out before the holiday rush, haha!
