Thank you very much, @Dawiafterdark for sharing your lovely opinions with us. I think everyone would agree, that this a game and a hobby and the fun and love should be treasured. The nostalgia from my first minis I got hit me directly with your words. The idea of a beginner series is really good for greenbeards and longbeards as a way of teaching and reminding. A small personal wish, that coul act as advice, is a guide for dice rolls. As a beginner I am still having trouble remembering what rolls I need with different stats. Maybe you could consider making a point on how to learn that. Just maybe 😅
All great points. I’d add the flavour in the rules. Motherly love tables, pigeon bombs, dwarf carts, wolves of the sea challenges - bring all that narrative to the table.
Nostalgia hss become a really important factor for me as well. It's not about living in the past, but reliving the past. And that can be a driving force as well when it comes to diving into the future with a positive outlook. Thank you for your enthusiasm, Richy. I hope we will be able to play a game or two at some point
I completely agree ! And I think it has been a massive driving force for people that feel like the modern games aren’t that great aswell . Thank you ! Hopefully mate ! At any events this year ?
@Dawiafterdark Playing my first tournament in the south of Austria in May. Probably a second one in November with the new Beastmen journal hopefully out :)
@@Dawiafterdark Nice. Which tournament? Speaking of Germany, you should totally check out the novel "The Dwarves" (yes, wrong spelling) by Markus Heitz. It's just as amazing in the english reissue and has done a lot for the dwarf community here apart from the Lord of the Rings movies
I'm excited for a beginner series! I've been painting for nearly 10 years but have barely played any games at all & i'm hoping to change that this year.
I also like the new special rules. A lot of the ‘new’ rules have been imported from Warhammer Ancient Battles. Ambush, Chariot Runners, Drilled, Feigned Flight, Ferocious Charge, Levies, Shieldwall, Veteran, and Warband were all in the WAB rulebook (version 2 published in 2008), and Cavalry Counter Charges were introduced in the “Byzantium - Beyond the Golden Gate” supplement. Like you I really like the new TOW magic system. My three TOW hates are: a return to 5th Edition Hero Hammer (I would prefer 25% Characters and 50% Core); combined stats for monsters and riders; and Linehammer, where a model two feet away from the nearest enemy is in combat. Keep up the good work - I really enjoy your videos.
Thank you ! Really appreciate it ! I’m really happy they imported them over aswell they really flesh the game out and make it feel much more like the give and take of a real battlefield !
After playing a bunch of 40K and AOS over the last couple of years, me and buddies have just loved the customisation of characters, feeling a bit like an RPG choosing magic item (or rune!) combinations is just so fun.
Hey mate, really enjoying your channel. The videos with Tom in particular are fantastic. I hope you keep going with the army feature videos, and I would love to see some more videos about the STLs available for each army (not talking about printing, just highlighting some of the creators out there that people may not be aware of, or might pivot too for different variation, like you did with your dwarves).
Hi Richy, perfect content, as always. As a suggestion, how about a miniature comparison of the individual providers such as "white Angel". Would be cool to see how the miniatures look compared to the GW Minis. Go Richy , Go Dawi
The beginners series sounds great. My friends and I have been kinda stumbling through the rules. there is a local community community that plays the old world regularly and teaches it. However, it's a paid club that the guy in charge of it runs as his private kingdom
@Dawiafterdark honestly it could also be personal, as the gaming group I'm part of has called him out a number of times for some. Questionable behaviour involving younger members of the community
I am loving ToW. The setting, the lore, the models even the actual game. GW did the impossible; they captured the spirit and magic of 90s and early 2000s Games Workshop and brought it to the 2020s.
One of my favorite things about the Old World is listening to Dawi after Dark at the end of your videos. Seriously though, what band is this? Also, just found your channel last week and love it. I'm more of a fan of big units of rank and flank and really don't like the herohammer or linehammer. I don't have enough experience with TOW to make an educated opinion yet, but I think I'd make some house rules to limit both. I want large units of troops meeting in the battlefield. My first army was TK that I had been collecting for years but I didn't buy the battalion box or any new models so it was mostly troops, rare, and special with no big monsters. I got decimated not having any answers to monsters or Pegasus knights.
Haha thank you ! I made it myself :) Yeah so I’m hopeful that there will be a January faq and a chapter approved style book that will address some of the issues people are having like those , I was speaking to Jack Allen last night and we both said 2.5k points but drop the hero cap down to 750 and suddenly it’s like old Warhammer again ! Magic and caskets are a pretty good answer to them and also having you skelly blobs so big they stick around
Thanks for being positive. Fed up with the blogosphere moaning because there is one rule someone doesn't like in a game that's pretty fantastic overall. Almost enough to make me forgive you being a Dawi player.
Can I suggest taking a slow grow option taking the first beginner game at 500 points yet still rulebook legal. I will try to get a video out soon of one of my more recent 500 point games which are still great fun to play and an ideal way of learning the game.
Credit where credit’s due, you are always unfailingly positive about this game. I’m beginning to believe your one of those dwarves who have lived in the Empire for too long! 😉. My two favourite things about the old world is it has bought new players back to the game and that with the release it seems to have muted the ‘6th Ed is the only proper edition’ die hards on the socials and everyone is enjoying TOW to a greater or lesser extent.
Haha cheers mate ! Don’t insult me like that 😂😂😂🫣⛏️ yeah the community is actually pretty great ! I’ve met so many people that never played fantasy before but jumped straight into old world , it’s great to see !
@@AmmiraglioMurray it honestly depends what you play and who you play , I play dwarfs with big blocks so for me I really get that ! If you choose to run dragons and monsters and skirmishers then you won’t . It’s kinda what you put into it you get out I’ve found :)
@Dawiafterdark My point Is that every army should have a rank and flank core and then you make your chioice around that. Parto from wood elves obbiously🤣
Hoping this doesn't come across as a rant - 'The best thing about Warhammer The Old World' is that it actually gives us the means to *customize* our army. I'm holding the strong opinion that GW's "no rules for things we're not selling" is the single worst thing that happened to the hobby. Every new edition of AoS & 40k *carves* away content - fewer units, less wargear. Can't put a Power Klaw on my Warboss, because GW didn't include one in the box. Can't have a Space Marine Captain on bike because GW discontinued the model. (Meanwhile in TOW I can have a Empire Captain in plate armour with a long bow on a pegasus carrying a banner.) And its not even just the old stuff. I planned on collecting Kruleboyz with the start of 4th edition just to discover they went from having barely any loadout options to literally *none*. I have no idea how the designers for TOW were allowed to just... ignore GW's design philosophy of the last 10+ years. We didn't just return to a pre-AoS approach, but a pre-8th edition WHFB one. Black Orc chariots, Bretonnian Bombards, Empire Road Wardens, Marauder Berserkers?! Rather then expecting us to assemble monopose figures exactly as depicted on the box, we're actually being asked to convert and kitbash things GW doesn't provide? Its almost like the game is being driven by creatives, not marketing experts, brand managers and IP lawyers. What year is it?! TOW has invigorated my passion for Warhammer, it isn't everything I expected or hoped it to be, but its everything I need it to be. I don't care that we're treated as a specialist system, or worse, if the trade-off is not being subjected to modern GW design philosophies. // Eitherway, I've got to continue converting my three-armed Dragon Ogre Shaggoth armed with a bolt thrower - there is no official model, there nevers has been and there never will, but the rules support it all the same.
No not at all ! I completely agree , this game is what Warhammer was meant to be , making the models you want for the game depending on the weopons you and upgrades you give them like the good old days !! It’s great honestly
Hey Rich! There is literally no high quality beginner series of OW on UA-cam. Definitely a gap that needs filling. You’ll do a great job no doubt. As long as you use plenty of those pointy-eared s&$t heads as fodder in your examples 😉
agree with you, old world lore is more interesting. 40k has lots of lore sure but its a mess of contradicting nonsense and dick measuring these days. also where can i download that song!?
Beginner series will still help me even though I’ve had my army for about a year. I’m still learning and excited for these new vids.
Thank you mate ! To be fair it’s always good to go back to the basics sometimes !

I know it’s all just helps build such a narrative game , although I do miss the old grumblers rule ! Grumble grumble ! Haha
Giants and giant attack table.

Thanks mate ! Really appreciate it ! Yeah I can definitely sort that as I have models from pretty much every range for dwarfs painted up !
I think it's a great idea! Maybe even throw in how they scale if you adjust them. Ie. I print my highland dwarfs at 87.5% to scale them to 28mm

Been around since the first edition. Lost touch for 30 years and have returned and am painting up dwarves from the 80’s Citadel range
