The gear driven bottom feeder and long crank handle affords the user the highest degree of mechanical advantage when splitting thick and tough leather hides, belts, and soles of shoes. The machine can split leather, rubber, crepe, and other natural and man made leather products with ease.

What width of, say, 8 oz leather could be split with this? 5 inches? Even if one did it a little at a time?
Karl, for saddlery leather, it is possible, if you can sharp the blade well. Note: this leather splitting machine cannot split soft upolstery leather.
@@HightexHeavysewingtechnology Thanks for that. I am a knife maker and use 8-9 ounce veg tanned leather. Could I split something 4-5 inches wide if I were careful to keep things sharp?

Have the exact machine, a very expensive paperweight, mine most certainly does NOT do what this one does, yet nowhere anywhere on the internet can I find a good explanation of exactly how to set the machine up to perform flawlessly. More than being dissapointed I am angry at the lack of product service.

do you have to run a piece all the way through the machine - can you back it out after splitting a small part of the strap? I'd like to use this mostly for splitting leather - but for belts I am interested to know if this can skive the buckle end without splitting the whole strap. Thanks!

No, this leather splitting machine is designed for hard leather, it equipped with fixed blade. Soft leather for upholstery usually need high speed moving blade, such as CowBoy 801.

Can it cut down to 1 on?
1mm? It is ok for hard leather.
what about 1oz? 0.5mm ?
For narrow leather strap less 50mm wide, 0.5mm thin is ok.
