Thank you so much for sharing this. I haven`t been here since (1983) I was a kid. I went on a class field trip, I remember a glass floor on the boat so we could see the ocean floor. And it was an amazing adventure, something I`ll never forget. I wish I could live there, I bet it`s so peaceful.
Thanks for sharing your trip with us ! - Catalina is one place I would love to visit ! - Such a Beautiful island ! Seen it so many times on TV programmes & Movies would love to stay a while !

Michael Jiroch Are the people that complain about your video, cinema heads? If they don't know anything about film, then the don't know what they're complaining about. This video felt like a short story.
What an incredibly excellent video style. Others try to cram this much in but they don't hold the shots long enough to get a true feel. This gives JUST enough to get "the feel" then moves to something else. Shots don't drag on past the point of making their point. Shots are long enough to make their point. This is an awesomely efficient video of the perfect length. The excellence of this cancels out thousands and thousands of others that to varying degrees waste my time because they can't find that perfect balance like this one does. (And good job on the description too.)
San Pedro native here....ya'll should have seen the old white steamship or the Grumman flying boats of Catalina airlines .....after i got my pilots license it was a 20 minute flight
Really nice presentation! I made this trip in 1965 when I was 13. Avalon looked the same but everything else looks the same. I would have like to see the flying fish in this video. And where are the divers at Avalon? Passengers would throw coins in the water and there would be a host of men and women diving for dollars. Diving for Dollars! Might make a nice TV game show! I'm thinking about going over again some day. It's a fun way to spend the day.
If you're a motor-head like me, half the fun of getting to Catalina is the ride on one of these boats. Back in 1992 when I took this trip, I believe they used turbocharged Detroit diesels that pushed that big boat through the water at 30 knots.
@@MichaelJirochVisualArtist Actually just went there and enjoyed it so much. I was not sure to go there or not but after your video I made the decision to go there. I think that place is more beautiful than Kapri in Italy.
The same boat we went on yesterday! I see since the corona virus started, they don’t offer any more snacks or drinks. But overall, it was pretty fun! I gotta see flying fish, and killer whales too! If you ever go just sit at the first deck if you’re sea sick, because then the boat will move less. If you like the view of the ocean then sit at the second or third deck.
You know, I know there is a parking ramp near by. Not expensive. But I remember finding free parking, but I can’t remember where. Best to use google maps and ask it for parking instructions
malinday75 ....of course. The old slow boat, the one that took 2-3 hours....one gets sea sick, and I often did. Green to the gills. But this boat zooms across the channel with little problem. No sea sickness at all.
Pinky And da Brain ...I’m not sure exactly what you are asking. By law, in California everything has to available to all people. Or are you asking if a handicapped person would enjoy ...yes, I think so.
Looking to vacation with my new Bride Luna, very excited to experience this with my new Wife. Funny thing is that I never took my First Wife there. Well we have an agreement, if I don't ask questions about her First husband than she doesn't ask about the Ex Wife... XOXO 💋

this is a wicked fun way to begin a Catalina Island weekend or visit. Always sit outside.
Loving the sound of those big turbos on the twin caterpillar v16 diesels.. That's just a modest cruise in comparison to what they can do.
I only know catalina island from movies and tv, it is a distant paradise dream for me. Greetings from russia.
Maybe DJT could make a deal with you.

I remember the last time I went the boat was going FASTTTTT FASTTTT. it was a Jr. lifeguard trip and my god the boat ride was the best.

My dad said he went to Catalina on an albatross in the 70s. He said it was the coolest experience but very loud.
I used to live in two harbors, gosh i miss that place

It was winter when I filmed this. So, not to many divers. Only Cruise ship people...

Catalina Express is by far the best choice. Fast, comfy boats and many departures. Don't start your vacation with a "budget boat".
These fast and stable cats are much better than the old ferry boats, took 3 hours and was major puke fest. Now the cats take 45 mins and very stable.
Dude, thanks for the video.

Helpful vid. Thanks.
Like the San Pedro smaller boat to Catalina and a lot closer for me as well.
Hi I have a question is there places to park your car there ? Or at least near there
You know, I know there is a parking ramp near by. Not expensive. But I remember finding free parking, but I can’t remember where. Best to use google maps and ask it for parking instructions
What video editing software did you use? And camera. Thanks.
FCPX and Canon 80D
Twin V16 Caterpillar engines... 😍
If I’m prone to extreme sea sickness, will this ride be okay without Dramamine..?

Do they have bathrooms on this ferry?
Nicole Caro of course
Super helpful video. How long was the boat ride?
Monica Casey one hour and a half.
Whats the rules with bags?
It’s the fucking Catalina wine mixer
What side would you suggest to sit on for less motion sickness
Alexis Navejas ....there is no motion sickness on this boat....it moves so fast there is no rocking back and forth.
Michael Jiroch ty I highly appreciate your help

Never been on a boat before and Iam scared Iam gonna get sea sick because Iam going here 🤨
xXTeal WolfXx did you get sea sick??
If you are scared you will get seasick you will get seasick
Ya pal
Can u eat outside on the boat during covid? Can u even go outside on the boat during covid?
No food or drink, you have to wear a mask even if you're outside which yes you can sit out.
How fast does the boat go?
30-40 mph
Planning to visit, this Beautiful Island. I am from San Diego, where can we get the Ferry boat and the ticket going to.
Juliana Lorenzo city of Long Beach.
They also have a port at Dana Point which is a closer drive from SD than Long Beach is, but the boat ride is a little longer.
Dude why did you blob out Anne's face? You got Cofee's face.
Last time I went with my dog he ate a yellow jacket
Are the seats first come , first serve ?
yes...
👍❤️
I did it at night!
The 02:00 mark, I must say, was the best shot. You certainly pulled off a Spielberg "Oner" shot on this.
