Finding a Shiny - one of the rare occasions where it's okay to touch your friend's hair. Easily one of the Top 3 Brandon Plays Pokémon moments. What a special time it was.
I learned this week that scadu is actually an Old English way of spelling "shadow", much like gaol is Old English spelling for "jail". So they're actually just "shadowtree" blessings, not "ska-doo".
Is that actually true tho? Or is it something that a random person claimed on Reddit while linking to a Wiktionary page that doesn't corroborate the claim?
Loved the video's ending! Back before I'd gotten into the series, it was my bestie who urged me to finally get with the program and pick up Bloodborne and later the rest of the games. What he said to me at the time has been my guiding principle ever since: "The difficulty is overstated. These are still RPGs. Play whatever character archetype you like. Just be cautious and don't do stupid shit and you'll be alright." _All_ my characters are roleplay builds and I've _never_ altered anyone for the sake of _anything_ in the game. To respec for a boss is to kill my character's soul for victory, and I could never do that to them. If I want to experience a fight with a different build, I'll roll another character! My first char in Elden Ring was my go-to NG char in these games: dagger rogue. In NG+ I switched him to a full Ravenmount Assassin cosplay, and I look forward to adding throwing knives and poison perfume to that build, but I'll first experience the lands of shadow with my second character, Jubei, the frenzied samurai, and whoo boy do I look forward to finding that katana! _(Also looking forward to trying those new Monster Hunter Word-sized katanas I've been hearing about...)_
@@knavenformed9436 The idea of other players indirectly helping you by leaving stuff behind and hints and building things together. So like the message system in Souls, but the entire game is built around it.
Those 3 hours of Erdtree Avatar pettynees were bliss. Everytime i turn my frustration with a challenge into an "objective review of boss quality or design work" i take a breath and stop talking. Bosman walked into an optional fight that is pre to last boss being not even a quarter in to the content. He also named his character after an Avocado.
Really excellent Delayed Input, making the -hotfix- calibration update scadutree blessing scaling chart a boss that the audience isn't ready to face until they have what they need is so funny and smart. Glad I experienced that four and a half hours of Hass fighting the sunflower monster, made the point about builds being personal really hit. I went into the DLC at level 94 and I'm pretty confident saying massively under-leveled characters are not on the same level as over-leveled or even appropriately-leveled ones in the dlc. Most things absolutely destroyed me in 1 or 2 hits when I went in, getting a bit better now that I'm in the 130s. The blessing buff is percentage based so it's actually way more of a boost if a character is high enough level to have stats at their hard caps.
Sekiro did the same thing with attack and posture increases after you beat a boss, seems like they chose that method so people don't just run through the dlc with their overpowered characters without exploring the new area.
Sometimes I find myself lost somewhere and read a few messages on the floor, I search for directions or hints, and end up with "fatty", or "you don't have the right, O you don't have the right". Even better, next to a few npcs is always a message that says "try fingers, but hole", and by the thousandth time, still, I laught my eyes out. Love you all soul's vets!
It was found out that a lot of the negative reviews are mainland Chinese complaining about Easy-Anti Cheat. There's still people with EN reviews complaining about the difficulty sure, but not as much as initially reported.
In case it hasn't been pointed out, this levelling structure is similar to Sekiro's structure with Prayer Beads. Those items would (in teirs) level up posture and vitality. In truth, you had to defeat bosses for the majority of the prayer beads, but others would just be found in exploration (or would be dropped by mini bosses that were optional). So, in that respsect, this is a revisiting of that old structure.
I'm 99% sure they actually wanted to call it "Skadoosh" tree blessing, but legal department made them change it to avoid being sued by Dreamworks ... 🐼
Don't worry about finding the shiny shirt that will impress us, everyone has impressed us so far. Each additional shirt is simply another variance of success.
I haven't played the DLC -- the base game is already too difficult to me :p I wish there was at least an in-game guide explaining how to best make a build, because I don't like the experience of looking up broken builds online. Or at least make it so you can try a new weapon you find without it being completely useless unless you respec
interesting as always and well one of the main components of Souls games is Rogue and Rogue games are the opposite of most other games in terms of their difficulty spike - going from hard to easy and not from easy to hard. So this is a way for FROM to ease in the difficulty curve without compromising on one of the pillars of their formula. I found it quite a brilliant solution to the problem even tho being niche and selling 5 million copies of a dlc is a little paradoxical and I don't think anyone can really nail it.
I'm Dutch, from a place above Amsterdam, and older folk there actually pronounce shadow (which is "schaduw" in Dutch) as skaaaa-dew. It's dialect of course, but it sounds pretty much exactly the same as scadu.
Sure, they tweaked the scaling a bit but I think the Scadutree Blessings are a great way to incentivise exploration of these new areas. Most people are probably pretty set in their builds (like they were in late game of the base game) so new weapons/ spells, while great, don’t have as big a pull
People bought the game because it's hard--they saw other people die while playing, thought they could do better, so they bought the game--and now because everyone finds it too difficult that's become the "subjective truth", and Bandai Namco feels the need to make it easier? Kinda sad.
Glad you're enjoying it. With the DLC I think it has become my favorite game of all time. No other game is as exciting to explore. Feels like every FromSoft release has gotten that Steam review treatment, including the original Elden Ring. Just further proof that Steam reviews shouldn't be taken that seriously. The scadutree blessings are a nice solution so that people don't immediately demolish the entire DLC with all their broken builds, of course those people are upset that they have to explore but it's for the best. It's not like levels don't also help.
This reminds me of the opposite of what people had an issue with with KH3. The hard difficulty felt normal, normal felt easy, and of course easy was takin lunch from a baby. The devs later released the harder hard mode difficulty and that more than put me in my place. I had to cheese the hell out of the game to beat it on that difficulty.
Right now the DLC is Mostly Positive (71% +) with: 49.12% of the reviews are in English with an 87% + 29.44% of the reviews are in Simplified Chinese at 39% + Players from China, Korea and Japan have been the main source of why Elden Ring received a mixed review initially.
nice touch cosplaying as a scadutree blessing kyle
Oh Kyle. You'll only find the shiny shirt that impresses us once you find the shiny shirt that impresses you.

No, they're Ska-doo.
If there aren't exactly 23 Skadoo blessings, I riot.

@@user__214 Not sure, but it makes perfect sense in context. I'll always call them skadoo though, cause it's funnier.
I'm glad to know this but the video is funnier with the way Kyle is saying it.
Love the way Bosman plasters his hands on Jones' face after he sees the shiny
The juxtaposition between Kyle freaking out about a shiny pokemon and Jones having no clue what’s happening is hilarious
Fun fact: Scadu is actually pronounced with an Sh sound, not an Sc sound, making the word essentially “Shadow” tree with a slight accent.
Yup it's an old english root just like Erdtree (earth tree/world tree) and Haligtree (holy tree)
Right before you commented about the shinny shirt, I thought to myself: that's a cool ass shirt, it reminds me of the matrix. U got it this time.

That's not even a hot take.
Old, OLD news. Hideous Kojackass doesn't play video games or else he'd know that.
Never played Stranding

Genuinely, thank for explaining a Elden Ring mechanics I would have been SO lost without the explanation

I feel confident Kyle knows about the Scadu Tree = Shadow Tree thing. Like the shiny shirts, saying Scadu Tree over and over is a personal choice.
Kyle's shirt greatly improves stamina
Brandon Plays Pokemon. Good times. ❤
Silver Squad was the best of times
To this day, I still watch it once or twice a year and was the thing that got me into them. What an amazing piece of youtube art
Miss the old EZA
The whole time I thought this video was going to be about input delay in Elden Ring, and at the end I realize that's the name of the show 😅
"Scadutree" sounds like something Kyle would come up with.
I don't give a shit, dude... I'm a bear claw man.
kyle is so good with these
4:06 Actually it’s not, it’s like Bladd(Blythe) or Geol(Jail). it’s the old spelling for Shadow
Knowing Kyle, he looked that up early on but wants to tease us anyway ;P
correction to the correction, blaidd is not old English, it's Welsh, and translates to wolf
Sekiro did the same thing with attack and posture increases after you beat a boss, seems like they chose that method so people don't just run through the dlc with their overpowered characters without exploring the new area.
Kyle grabbing Jones' head in excitement is a clip I will NEVER get tired of.
Bandai Namco US "This is...!" got me real good. Well played Bosman
Kinda bummed Kyle mentioned he was wearing a shiny shirt. I thought I was finally able to see the matrix
what i like about the messages from other players are the funny things like '"nice view" about a monster's butt or "dog but whole" lol
Me, with my trusty golden halberd and 1k attack power in the base game: gimme those skadooooos, must bonk EVEN HARDER.
That clip with Jones was so wholesome

actually most of them are none english reviews complaining about easy anti cheat, mostly chinese and korean
they used the wording calibration for armored core 4th and 5th gens' balance patches, so it brought a smile to my face to see it used again

I'd put Bosman more of an Eclair man than a Bear Claw man.
Scadu is just the old form of the word Shadow
Scadu is an old word for Shadow. Shadow Tree Fragments.
I do close my eyes and listen to Kyle. Drift back into subconscious and let Kyle enter my dreams with Elden Ring bits.
Most of the negative reviews on steam are about performance and not difficulty
Kyle’s shirt is scadu tree green.
